It's brilliant. The IBS is even better. Like mention in the video the Proxy is well just genius.the Af is also better along with now having pre burst (something not talked about enough) All these features in camera body that cost less then 2k. 😂😂😂. Crazy
they didnt fix the af issue on 1080p 50 fps and higher on full frame

Unfornately I feel that PANASONIC is treating badly the GH6 Users, new cameras and non solutions for the GH Users.
A year ago, I sold my sony a7iv, gm lenses and went s5ii because i had no trust in Sony adding actual useful video features via firmware updates. I'm glad i bet on the right horse. 🎉
The Sony a7 iv is such a good camera, though. I'm thinking of selling my Panasonic s5 and getting the Sony a7 iv as it's better in photo due to it's 33 megapixels compared to all the s ranges 24 megapixels plus it's got 4k downsampled from 7k

I went Lumix from canon because I was tired of having mid tier cameras crippled to make you pick between a budget entry level that doesn't have critical features like weather sealing and dual card slots or you get a super expensive pro model. Panasonic just hits the sweet spot of giving you everything you could possibly need to get started as a pro photographer or videographer at a very solid price and package.
I cant believe how much value Lumix gives u for your money. Got a friend who shot tons of weddings and events on original S5 and I can testify personally that things a WORKHORSE. It can take a beating on any type of terrain and produce stunning results. I cant even imagine how good the S5ii has got to be.
I've been looking at the S5iix for some time now. With this latest update, I'm pretty much sold. I'm ready to sell some of my gear to get it.

@@hhankx The S5IIX is far ahead of the S1H and S5 in user experience and reliability, and I've had all the bodies.
Paid updates such as VLOGL on GH4 and GH5, and on some of the S rang cameras were major additional features added, exceeding the usual feature updates which we have had here recently on S5ii and S5iiX today - They were not simple updates to existing features, they were major additions. You cannot compare today's updates to those major paid features being added in the past.

I did a small video shoot today and I definetly noticed the improvement in the autofocus. I'm doing another shoot tomorrow on with the Sigma 24-70. I tested it a little at home today and it certainly seems like the AF is more sticky, but I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

So crazy that you can also update by going into the lumix app and it update the firmware that way as well!! I did no memory cards at all. Super smooth! Great video.

I just bought a new Lumix S1 with 24-105mm lens and I am overwhelmed as its my first camera. Do the videos you have cover features that would merge with this camera as will considering they are all Lumix?

I hope there can be some kind of trusty timecode feature, possible via phone bluetooth? Since there are no delicate timecode generator. if you are going to do multi-cam, that can help a lot.
But I also feel quite strange no camera or lenses were published during NAB, Lumix seems very quiet, I thought it is a good time for the new S1Hm2 if that exist.

I downloaded it last night. Honestly it's kind of awesome. I do photography, and the AF is just more aggressive. It DOES improve locking on people. Can't figure out pre-shooting though

Just bought a s5iix with 20-60mm lens and 50mm lens. Was between the Sony a7iv and this cam, but with the recent firmware updates I went with the s5iix. Sony just seems to not care and the community and team behind Lumix seems to be the way right now. :) great video.
I was already sold on getting this camera once I the denary, but even more so after this free firmware update. I would imagine this will help future sales, so good on Panasonic. I hope they reap a good return for this generous update.

Lumix is notorious for FREE firmware updates! True, you had to pay for VLOG-L in the past, but the regular firmware updates have always been free.
Cool video. Although I don’t recall ever having to pay for a firmware update. The v-log thing was more paying for a new feature. Not really a standard firmware update. But I agree it’s great they are improving the cameras with firmware instead of simply making people buy a whole new S5iii camera, for example.

I bought a s5iix 2 weeks ago right before they announced the update. I didnt even know it was coming lol. Super happy with the newest update. The af performance is much better and the use of the stick to toggle between af targets is a great idea. Works really well. With an 18mm and the new super stabilization mode its insane. Sure...it makes 30p get recorded in like an apsc crop...but the thing is like a gimbal. Even better than my g9 and gh6 were. Its almost freaky.
The warping does seem better with the basic image stabilization on too, but on the super mode it simply doesn't exist.
my gimbal has been collecting dust for awhile now- might not even come off the shelf anymore
@CalebHoover I bought a gimbal, took it traveling once, hated the experience so much that I never used it again. hate it. The s5ii and 2x are the first FF cameras with m43 level stabilization. The g9ii is still better (seriously considered that one instead but the s 1.8 primes swayed me since the oly f1.2 m43 lenses are so goddamn expensive). I was RUNNING down the street today testing the 18mm with the high stabilization. It looks like a gimbal. The amount you can wiggle the camera and not see it in the image at all is absurd. It's like....15 degrees in any direction. Going to buy the 35mm f1.8 instead of the 50 to use it with 4k 60 modes and with the high stabilization mode. This camera is so good. It's so capable that I feel like a complete amateur using it. I can't even approach getting the best out of it!
I've owned Sony, Canon, older Lumix, Blackmagic, & Arri Film cameras. Currently I own a Google Pixel 8 Pro, Lumix S5IIX, and a Red Komodo using Lumix Pro and Zeiss Milvus lenses. There isn't much I can't shoot and get the right look for the budget. I have a system that edits all of my cameras in real time from 10 bit 4:2:2 to Red RAW using Resolve and I know how to edit and color grade. I've been doing this a long time and life is pretty good right now with the tech options we have. I don't see myself getting anything new for a while. Oh, yeah, I haven't purchased a BM monitor to record BM RAW with the S5IIX but I probably will.

Won't be happening. For me the GH6 was brought out too soon. Lumix gave into the demands. The camera was hyped up then came out and the hype faded. The GH7 is next and will have all these features. If I was you would sell the GH6 and get the G9ii.
Dude, how many people going to leave their camera on so like 50 gigabytes of footage can upload to the cloud. Even on a super fast connection this takes hours.

For me the pre capture feature is a killer feature, something only the Nikon Z8 provides, if panasonic now is able to launch a highres model and an even more video centric one, Sony and Co are in trouble.

Prob won't get one. The GH6 for me was a camera pushed to please those who cried for it. Once it came out the hype died real quick. The GH7 will be very good though many will probably just get g9ii.
I still haven't purchased V-Log for my GH5... I was using my adamos Ninja v+ to record as a BCAM and I noticed it was very noisy. Probably why I stepped it up to full frame. I really didn't want to leave Panasonic but only 4K 60 when the GH5 did 4K 60 made it unappealing for me. Now that I have it I don't use 4K 120 because it uses line skipping on the R5C...

@@CalebHoover I'm shooting in 800 iso with studio lights and still seeing noise. I think I may try pro res raw if the gh5 can. Next year probably look into another b cam. Thanks for saying that I was thinking about shelling out the money but there's no point. I shoot most of my Canon footage and C-Log 3.
I just updated the GH5 to version 2.8 and I hadn't been using it very often didn't realize I had another update. They keep saying the auto focus improves but my camera was fairly updated and it just does not want to focus. I updated it last night and it actually seemed to get better so let's hope for the best for the b cam lol.

I love this camera but the rolling shutter makes it near impossible to shoot professional looking action. Also BRAW is only on external and open gate is only internal. If they could just fix the rolling shutter I'd be back.

Personally, I don't care about better IBIS if it means a 1,5x crop. The IBIS and the AF of this cameras are already very good, I use mainly one focus area without tracking and it gives very good AF.
The firmware we need is not about IBIS and AF, but about video quality, the S5 and the S1 are still better, the new L² engine is so bad I almost never use the internal recording of the S5II.
For sure the camera is great for youtube and run and gun, but I miss the unaltered details of the S1 and S5.
I've never recorded with proxies in camera (only generated them in post), could you give me an idea how it works? I use Davinci Resolve, how does it know to link the editing from the proxies onto the original clips?
- as I typed this I thought maybe you would go through the right click > (re) link proxy clips and select the appropriate clips? Something like that, that would make sense to me 🤔
i don’t have any vids on it but should be a simple link clips - might be helpful to do a quick resolve proxy search on youtube. that might be faster than me typing haha

New AF, New IBS and Proxy features all in a camera body that is less then 2k. Let that sink it. The S5ii body is the same price as the Sony a7ii and half the price of the Sony a7iv and far cheaper then the Sony a7v. Lumix is really setting the bench mark for making sure it's camera users feel valued and taken care of. Giving more for there money. The Proxy feature is outstanding no longer have to wait hours for Proxy files to be created in your editing program. Can start editing stright away. 😊.

@@TopshelfJunior Nothing really. I got A7IV already and it was not feasible for me to have 2 mount systems (I'm just too poor). So haven't sold this because it's bad, but just because I got more glass for e-mount already.
Although long term I would probably get FX6.

Losing the second SD card backup of the high quality footage in exchange for a proxy in camera isn't worth it for me. If that main SD card fails, you're stuck with just proxies to deliver to the client.
I'm with you on that. Personally, I won't be messing with the proxy.
@@nigerian-nightmare Are the features the same, or is it two separate features ? I thought you could choose, A) upload PROXIES to frame.. or B) have the second card be PROXIES, but not necessarily upload to Frame..
@@TopshelfJunior Yes, but the proxy files are small. If card A gets corrupted, you are only stuck with proxy files. To be safe, I would instead create proxy files in the post.

I use the Atomos NV. Record to an ssd card the sd card and now have Proxy. Most cards today don't fail. Also I have photos saved to MC 2. I took some pics and it still saved it to the MC 2. So will it not be the case ? If you have set the camera to save back up footage to MC2 will it not still do this as well as saving proxies to the card ?

Old Fart here, 60-year-old ex BBC Cameraman and back in the 90s, had my own independant company back in the UK before going into academia. Today semi-retired in Brunei but still occasionally producing TV shows and Formats, just to keep my brain awake.
I am thinking about buying a couple of Lumix, they seem interesting cameras to be sure and you mentioned some good features, HOWEVER....something did bug me: the point you made about Editing, calling it a Bottleneck.
Now, I too, HATE Editing! HOWEVER....this 'Need For Speed'...I see this as Problematic.
SPEED does not Relate to QUALITY.
Where does QUALITY...fit into your Client's Assignment?
QUALITY Takes TIME. If a client wants Titanic-level film quality delivered yesterday...frankly, they are not the sort of clients you need or will ever satisfy.
As for this 'Remote Editor' concept...really? You happy with this? Who is in charge here of the project? Are YOU not the Film-maker? Whose Vision will YOUR Client see...yours or the editor whose name you don't even know?
How do YOU know they are up to the job?
Sorry if I sound nit-picky, but this modern-day obsession with SPEED...can be really irksome to those of us from the old days (you know, when everything was in black and white and we rode horses to work) nd frankly, part of our job as filmmakers is to let Clients know FIRMLY, that they are Paying Us to be the Best we can be ....and THAT Takes Time.

You and so many other people just don’t get it… The only thing that counts is the image quality. Everything else doesn’t matter. Everything else is secondary. It’s nice you can stream it to the cloud, but who the fuck cares… I’ve been handing clients hard drives for 25 years and I’m not gonna stop. Picture quality picture quality picture quality that’s the secret ingredient. The one time I got to try the Lumix the picture quality was mediocre at best. May have been my settings more than anything else.
we’re talking about a hybrid camera here. this is a legit big deal for this type and price of a camera. this isn’t an arri or that magnitude- keeping it in context
Not impressed at all. Would any Lumix user be imprressed? I know I'm not. There are still so many shortcomings still not worked on. Come on Panasonic. Get your head out of your butt and let your engineers run your company not accountants.
