      +CP Power same. At my middle school and high school the salads and fruit were always nasty and the salads were browning. The apples were always soggy, the veggies were over cooked and tasted like metal because of the bins they kept them in. The bananas were bruised as f and don't get me started on the sugarless strawberries and fruit cocktail. I will tell you some things shouldn't be sugarless and that IS canned fruit and strawberries. *shudders*

    _Okay, at my school, there's this thing called "selling". It's literally just a school-wide thing where some students sell food. The trade mainly consists of hot chips, Gatorade, candy, soda, and honeybuns. You have to remember that doing this is illegal for some reason (if you're caught, the school will list it as "selling contraband", which is bullshit)._
    _So you tell me._
    _Does it make sense for me to pay the price of a full Happy Meal for a plate of crap I won't eat or on chips, a Gatorade, and a honeybun? Because at least I'll eat it and get through my day until I can get home and make something healthier/edible._

      Depends on your state tbh, some schools are very well funded and can afford to serve good schools while others are poorly funded and can only afford to serve shit food.
      Case in point, elementary school gives kids their own Ipads for elementary school kids to use for the school year while a high school in the same district ends up accidentally hurting some random girl because a ceiling tile fell on her. (Though tbh I thought the ceiling tile story was hilarious because people always joke about how ghetto that school was, then someone gets hurt by a falling ceiling tile.)

It'd be smarter to give them a $5-15 cap per day depending on what you can afford and if they eat breakfast at home/take to school. But, don't underestimate filling your kids' stomach's. If hunger isn't on their minds then they'll have more time to focus on school rather than daydreaming about food.

    The father is correct to identify the issue as simply being that the school should not be selling anything on credit to children. Legally, a person may not enter into a contract with a child and that makes the child's purchases of anything a voidable contract. The father may legally refuse to pay the junk food bill. That implies the policy exposes the school to an unnecessary financial risk. How was this angle left out?

    • @isaacnaim2474
      @isaacnaim2474 Před 8 lety +1

      @isaacnaim2474 Před 8 lety

      Teddypal honestly I don't really have a side on this but, I don't see how credit card limits can limit the risk of bad diets. if the girl had a limit of 5 dollars a day that still means she can spend it all on junk food.

    • @Teddypally
      @Teddypally Před 8 lety +1

      isaac naim
      That's the point exactly. The school was providing lunches but there was a loophole where the kids could skip lunch and eat junk food on unlimited credit instead. The limit would not have been 5 dollars of junk food a day, more like 5 dollars a week, as a treat, not as their main meals.

      Lily Tate You're the problem! You could either spew regurgitated politically correct social justice crap, or you can actually tell the truth for a change. The real crime is shirking personal responsibility and a failure to train and discipline your daughter to choose to eat healthy, and rather blame the school for not doing your job. YOU are despicable. It may very well be genetics on the dad's part, but we train our children by example the most. She chooses unhealthy food because she sees her dad doing it. Don't "social justice" away the clear evidence and add to the problem. How dare you.

      You can tell the difference between a good parent and a bad parent by what they blame the kid's behavior on.
      Good parents deal with problems by talking to kids or going to a therapist with them or whatever.
      Bad parents blame everyone else because they don't know how to raise kids.
      You really should need a fucking license and extensive testing to have a child.

    • @intenselan
      @intenselan Před 8 lety +2

      I didn't know that fish HAD balls! :D heh.
      Parents need to be parents, not telling the school that THEY need to raise their kids. If I grew up eating a bunch of junk and charged $120, my parents wouldn't be talking to the school. I'd be in a MASS of trouble and probably spend the rest of the year eating spinach leaves. maple twigs, pinecones and water. Actually, I think that's the ingredients in Grape Nuts.
      Either way, his daughter CHOSE those foods. He could have been looking weekly at the cafeteria purchases and monitoring his daughter like he should have been doing instead of making autopayments and not paying attention. I'll also say this AGAIN - Kids do what parents do when they're young. If he's reaching for junk at home, she is going to!
      She also didn't JUST order junk. She ordered lunches and added junk a la carte, which is what is there. He's just upset because there IS an a la carte. I don't blame her - today's cafeteria food SUCKS. That is what I would blame a school for - processed low quality microwave crap that they pass for food rather than good homecooked nourishment. But the kid ordering junk?? The dad is to blame. Only the dad. Not the school.

    There is absolutely no excuse for the school to be selling that sort of garbage on school property, period. You can't expect a parent to control their child when they are in the care of the school. The school is being irresponsible caretakers during the hours that they are legally responsible for that child- it is reprehensible.
    If this is happening in the home, it is the fault of the parents. At school, however? Unless moM and dad are sitting right there with the child, it is 100% on the schools.

      Oh, and for the record, I pack my children lunches every day and do not buy school lunches. Imagine my surprise last year when I found out my daughter was given an account and allowed to purchase lunch at school one day because she didn't like her lunch!! Honestly, she was 7 years old and she was not without a lunch. Who on earth would allow that??? Needless to say, I did not pay the bill. Before you blame the parents (who may be doing everything right), be sure you understand the ridiculous over-indulgent society we live in.

      You know what their excuse is? Their pathetic school lunch! Have you actually eaten school lunch anywhere these days? It's absolutely vile. Everything, including the cheese and bread, bad this odd sweet taste. Even things you think you can trust like Eggo waffles in a package are like stiff pieces of Inedible cardboard. I know cause I have to suffer and eat the stuff ever day. I mean, agreed, if you have the money to buy 120 dollars worth of junk food, you should really pack your own lunch from home, but if you can't afford to bring a lunch from home and all you have is a dollar here and there, thank GOD for the those crappy unhealthy bags of chips to provide at least half and hour of energy for the rest of the day. School lunch is shit, and I think is anyone should complain about the way they serve food at school, it's the disgusting school lunch they have the nerve to slap on the tray. The day they take away the "junk food" will be the day I riot.

The same government that tells parents they can't allow sack lunches at school. the same government that don't allow MOST schools to serve that kind of junk food. The same government that has the attitude about being controlling turning us all into minions like you. Therefore why would it make sense to have it for sale on the street and not in a school? They are gonna eat what ever the hell they want when they leave your so caring DEN anyway. Or maybe you can just tell them what to eat for the rest of there fucking lives. that would probably make you feel good and powerful. Just like THEM. Golf clap.....

    For some reason I thought this said $120k. I was like "DAMN, this girl has to be 400 pounds!". As for dad, hey dad, here's an idea. Why not educate your child on healthy eating, and set limits. You didn't k one it was available? That's still on you. You should look at the menu calendars sent home. You should read the emails. You should monitor your child's spending habits. You should know your child's school enough to know what's available. This is just failure on the parent's part. You're the father. You're the one who needs to make those boundaries, teach those lessons, and know what's going on within your child's life.

    When I was in High School, we had a scheduled 15-minute break every morning at around 10:00 AM. And every day, the cafeteria staff would set up a snack stand in the hallway with fresh veggies and fresh fruit-- you could take as much as you wanted, and it was completely free.
    There were also some junk food items like chips and cookies, but you had to pay for them, cash only. I loved it. I actually lost weight (in a healthy way) during my last 2 years of high school and I absolutely attribute that to their "free healthy snack" initiative.
    EDIT: Are snack breaks like this common in high schools now? I don't know why, but I always thought this was something fairly unique to my school... If anyone is reading this: Does your school have a snack break too?

    Ok, so let's take all the parents and guide them by the hand about what is and isn't healthy food...
    Nevermind that giving a child free access to money will obviously make it easy to buy junk food. Yes, they are required to have fruit and vegetables on their plate, but that doesn't mean they HAVE to eat it. That father needs to own up to his responsibility too. It's not the school's job to raise your kids, that comes from home. Their responsibility is to educate and provide a safe environment where they can learn and learn how to socialize. Other than that, it's all on you parents, and just because YOU have dumb kids who have zero regard for the money given to her doesn't mean the rest of the kids should go without an occasional treat.
    Also, I would understand if the kid had bought $120 worth of junk food in one day... even one week... but it was clearly stated that she bought it over the course of several weeks...
