Marriage 101 Series: Episode 04 - Crucial Questions to Ask a Potential Spouse Before Marriage
In this episode, I address a matter that always comes up from both brothers and sisters when trying to find a spouse and that is, "how do I really get to know the reality of someone just by asking them questions?"
The simple answer is, that only Allah truly knows the true reality, however in this video I mention several questions that you may ask in order to find out exactly what you need to find out about someone and make an informed decision about whether or not you can see yourself living with this person and building a life with them.
Before I get into the actual questions, I give some key advices and guidelines on the questioning process itself. Basically, the dos and donts as it pertains to the questions you ask and the answers you receive.
I then break down the actual questions into 6 different categories with each category having several examples of questions. The idea behind this categorization was to try and cover the different aspects of marriage life.
    The categories are as follows:
    1. Questions that will tell you about someone’s personality
    2. Questions that will tell you about someone’s mentality
    3. Questions that will tell you about their family dynamic
    4. Questions that will tell you about someone’s philosophy in raising children
    5. Questions that will tell you about someone’s beliefs as it pertains to the religion
    6. Scenario specific questions (instead of open ended questions) that will have the other person answer in detail and reveal how they would behave in certain circumstances

At our age it’s more difficult to take everything into consideration. This is a really mature way of thinking.

I watched this entire episode and as a woman this was so eye opening and informative. A few things I knew already and a few other points mentioned it never even crossed my mind. I'm now going to view the other episodes on the marriage topic. As a married woman , a Muslim woman , I should have asked some of these questions before getting married and perhaps I would have saved myself from disappointment and heartache.

Asalamualkum, great points. As a Muslim brother myself I can understand some of the good families that require a certain Mahr amount because sometimes some brothers wanna cut corners and pay little to nothing. It can show commitment. Also lets say this is all subjective to the financial status of the man. For example, if the man is a DR who makes $200k I would think its fair to ask for a reasonable fair amount that will be more than what would asked for from a blue collar working brother. Many brothers these days want to jump into a marriage without mahr and without a walimah (wedding, or feast) for their own benefits.

    Allahuma Baarik akhii al kareem
I found this video very informative, balanced and gem packed ! The topic was tackled in an innovative way, with a big focus on realism and not just reiterating the generic responses we have gotten use to hearing.
Happy and thankful for the efforts you put in this in akhi al kareem. حفظك الله ونفع بك
