    In this video we will review exactly what to look for in a warehouse management system (WMS). We will review the features, the workflow, and the overall user experience that you should require when shopping around for a WMS.
    Most people experience sticker shock when they get a quote for a warehouse management system. This is because they don't realize what it takes to implement a real warehouse management system and its corresponding process. A real WMS includes the ability to track lot numbers, the ability to track the live inventory/location of products within pallets, and the ability to maintain FiFo (First In First Out) using expiration codes.
    To implement the WMS, you have to implement the corresponding processes. These processes include receiving, checking product into a bin location, picking by scanning the bin location, transferring from one bin to another, cycle counting bins, and scanning the inventory that returns from delivery trucks.
    In this demo we will cover each of these components, and exactly what a good warehouse management system must do in order to truly track your inventory.

    Great information! Just a word about taking video because I see that as you show the screen of the tracking device it is initially blurry until auto focus adjusts; I don't know what type camera you are using, maybe just your computer cam in this case, but, a pro videographer told me to only use manual focus. They said to always manually focus the camera a little beyond what you will be taking video of and everything between the camera and the object will be in focus at all times. It works. :-)

    I’ve worked in warehouses since I was young. And let me say that in a warehouse with tall racks, taking inventory is difficult. Sometime a guy has to use a man-lifter to visually inspect the top pallets.
    It would be nice if they made a drone with an autopilot. So when you need to check the upper racks, the drone automatically goes to the first bay, and hovers there. The drone camera gives a video on the handheld control panel. If you press a button, the drone automatically moves to the next bay. Manual steering isn’t required.
    That would make it much easier for warehouses to maintain inventory control. If you put a big bar code on each pallet, then the process would go even faster.

      Hi Karanvir, Thank you so much for reaching out. I appreciate it. The only time I've seen legal issues regarding warehousing is when the distributor who manufactures is incapable of tracking lot numbers. There are often mock recalls put in place by the government to ensure that you are compliant and that you can track a product in the event of a recall. In these recalls you must present the production lot numbers, what lot numbers are on hand, and what lot numbers went to what customers.

      Hi

  • @douwe4254
    @douwe4254 Před rokem

    I have a question based on this video. I don't work in retail but in the wood-sector. We have a different challenge within our branche that is difficult to solve with systems like the one in this video. When we receive a bulk of wood from our supplier in Sweden we know the weight, the amount received per pack and what type of wood we received. The thing is... this is an organic product. If we receive 600 two by fours, we can sell somewhere between 500-550. The rest of the wood is bended, damaged, etc. But even this varies. This is part of the industry basically.
    Now this 'damaged' wood can be reused, but not all of it. This variable is quite complex that we have the habit now to just not track the waste, and simply repurpose the wood wherever we see fit. We are trying to tackle inventory shrinkage, but by design, this industry has more of it because of the nature of the product. Employee theft... is low simply by the complexity of stealing HUGE wooden beams. Customers... do try and nick some "extra" things at times, or they gather high quality wood and then say they picked a lower quality so they have to pay less.
    A secondary issue is storage location. We change things around, a lot. Having labels everywhere, how do we fix constant locational fixes. Or do the barcodes only function as a location marker?
    Software like this would help us a lot, but my bosses both see more problems than solutions when proposing software like this.

    • @Laceupsolutions
      @Laceupsolutions  Před rokem

      Hello my friend and thank you so much for this comment. Sounds like we would have to work through a conversation on how to solve the above. I think I could find a solution for the repurposed/damaged wood. Secondly, yes the solution for for the locations is that they serve as tags for tracking. You can add/remove whatever product to the location thus not having to change the location.
      I think before diving too deep the question would have to be if your company is ready to invest in finding a solution and implementing it. The question I guess is how big of a problem is this for you?

    • @douwe4254
      @douwe4254 Před rokem +2

      @@Laceupsolutions That is the second part of the story (and thanks for the reply!), our director told me right from the start, and im paraphrasing a little:
      What comes in goes out, the numbers import numbers are near equal to what goes out.
      The loss is a constant (which is good).
      But - and this is a personal estimation - we have millions worth of storage. About 100.000 euro's worth of yearly damage and 200.000 euro's of inventory shrinkage.
      Which means there is a potential 300.000 euro's which could provide an interesting case to shrink our losses.
      We are still counting on paper, translating in excel and pushing into the system afterwards. If counting would take me an hour, it would take another hour to process the same information. Secondly, i'm still relatively new at the company (nearing a year now) and I've talked to my boss about software like yours. He's given me a roadmap of about 2 years before he thinks I'm ready for this step.
      However... coming from the city. I think we need to have a working plan in order before that time so we can make it a reality before the third year.
      Ignoring the aging personnel who never worked in a digital way before. Working in the B2B I know they are 10 years behind on general developments, but I feel we are leaning towards 15-20 years if we don't act on relative short term.
      So the real question would be, what estimation of costs are paired with a million euro's worth inventory and almost 6 smaller companies we've taken over the last couple of years? We are middle-league players right now, and the fear for change threshold isn't to be ignored.
      Because right now all I can offer is a chat without any promises haha.
