    Here we have what to expect during your nursing orientation and how to best prepare for it! Congratulations! You landed your dream job, but the hard work never ends. Especially as a New Grad, your first nursing orientation can be tough, but not impossible! The first thing is to be mentally prepared and have an idea of what to expect. Nursing is hard, mentally and physically. Mentally it will be a lot tougher in the beginning because on top of the nerves, you are also learning so many new things every second you are at work. It may be fast paced and overwhelming, but never forever to give yourself some credit for getting to where you are and be ready to learn! Be humble, ask questions and absorb as much as you can from all the wonderful nurses/staff around you. Learning knew things in the nursing profession is never ending. You will never know everything, but you will definitely become more and more confident in your knowledge and skills as time goes by. Be confident and most importantly give your patients the best care you can offer. Be patient with yourself, we all were new at some point. As we said in the video, you are not born just KNOWING. Don't worry about asking too many questions, ASK AWAY! Good luck and continue to grow as a nurse and person throughout your nursing journey. Once again, thank you for watching and stay tuned for our next videos :)

    I think having multiple preceptors helps. Different nurses work a little differently. They end up showing you things the others didn’t. It helps a lot.

    • @AngNatNursesinNYC
      @AngNatNursesinNYC  Před 4 lety

      J D you are absolutely right. You get to learn so many different things from possibly having multiple preceptors. One will show you a away and the other will show you a different, maybe even an easier way.

    I really needed to hear this. I graduated nursing school in 2021 but because of my mental health and a lot of personal issues I delayed taking the NCLEX and getting a job till this year. I actually have my first orientation shift tonight and I am super anxious and I don't feel prepared at all. But just hearing you two talk about all the same things that I am feeling has made me feel so much less alone. That I am not the only one feeling that way I am feeling and that I can do this! Thank you for this video I really needed it.

      We are so glad we can help you feel less stress. Nursing is stressful but you are never alone. You have coworkers to help you through a shift. I hope it is going well for you. Thank you for the support. Continue shining!

    I'm a brand new grad and I just found your channel. Love it. You guys are so reassuring in this video. ASKING QUESTIONS! Honestly, one of the best tips. I was scared to ask questions as a student, but now as a nurse, I'm more comfortable, partly because I have to be, I'm now responsible for my patients, I don't have a preceptor nurse behind me. I ask so many questions, literally every shift, I'm asking questions. Sometimes I feel like I'm annoying with all my questions lol but luckily I have a great team who is here for me :)

    • @AngNatNursesinNYC
      @AngNatNursesinNYC  Před 2 lety

    Hi guys!! Thank you for your videos!! I have a question...did you guys start out in a nurse residency program? Or straight into an RN job without experience? I ask only because I am in my last semester and crazy nervous and not sure if I should go for a residency program.

    • @AngNatNursesinNYC
      @AngNatNursesinNYC  Před rokem

      This is a great question! Sorry for the late response, this may not be helpful to you now but maybe it can help someone else.
      Doing a residency program is very beneficial in learning the nursing skills early on as well as possibly landing a job in that specific unit or hospital you plan to complete the residency program in. Ang did a residency program after graduation and landed a job in the unit. Nat did not complete a residency program but was still able to get a job offer. We do recommend to complete a residency program as it gets your foot in the door and it shows being proactive.
      Thank you for the support!

      I’m not sure of the rules in Canada, but you should definitely speak to your manager and read your contract on how long your orientation should be. It should be written on there, or you can speak to your HR department. It is not safe for you to care for patients without proper orientation! I hope it works out for you.
