Austin Patterson you need to buy a properly made monofin. It’s sports equipment not a toy and you could become permanently injured or even die from swimming in a homemade fin
I actually did ballet for seven years, and that doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea! As long as you aren’t using ones that you actually dance in and they’re not falling apart (completely), I’d say go for it. Although, it might feel weird underwater, and you might need extra straps to actually keep your feet in the slippers.

I did this DIY with only one roll of duct tape and a re-used lid for a total of $5, and it was super cool because I got to customize it and I love using it because of how well it works.

A lot of science goes into the design of a proper monofin, doing this is not only dangerous, but also runs the risk of giving the rest of the mermaid community a bad name if there were to be any accidents. Don't use this tutorial!

Nadia Yvonne if it’s point shoes the shank will get wet and fall apart. So you can’t use those but I really don’t now about flats.
