    Excellent review. One of the best I’ve seen. I’m on my third Santa Fe . Never had a problem. Currently have a 2018 Santa Fe Ultimate Sport. Recommend people take a look at Hyundai. No, I do not work for Hyundai. Hyundai management very good to work with. Just nice people. Dealerships are good to work with.

    From an owner of two Sonata Hybrids over the past 8 years the best thing about the hybrid is that the technology puts the electric motor between the engine and transmission. This allows for gear shifts to happen instead of the typical cvt groans. To me it feels more spirited to drive. My 2014 Sonata Hybrid has never needed brake pad replacement and probably never will and the odometer is currently at 118,000 miles (US.) All I've ever completed on this car is the basic scheduled maintenance. The stronger sheet metal is also very apparent. I had a toyota for a company car for a year and after driving the two brands the Hyundai feels so much more solid.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Před 3 lety

      @@MechayaAlta based on the reliability of previous hyundai hybrids, I'd say yes, it's right up there. As a matter of fact, Hyundai doesn't use a cvt in their hybrids like Toyota does.
      The hybrid battery isn't large enough to keep things going all night, so the engine would be kicking on to supplement power. I wouldn't recommend it.

      Which did you go with? I’m trying to decide too. Tucson got much better mpg, but I don’t like that there are no buttons nor knobs, and all the storage spaces seem pretty minimal. The Santa Fe got all them buttons and all those nice storage areas, which I find makes the Santa Fe much more functional 🤷‍♂️ I can’t decide lol with the shortage of cars, I can’t even test drive them together to see which feels better. I’ve only driven the Tucson. Have you driven both? If so, how did they feel on the drive?

My only complaint as I research the vehicle thus far is that I wanted heads up display, red exterior color as well as cognac interior. It's a 2.5 in the 2021 non hybrid.
      Main difference of course will be the ability to drive on pure electricity for a while, but it'll also have more power and better acceleration thanks to a bigger electric motor.
      I won't see one until second half of the year though.

    Thanks for that very instructive video. One question for you if I may: how do you select conventional cruise control on this vehicle(Canadian version). With the winter season in Canada, do you think (or believe) that once the front car sensor is covered with mud and snow, that the adaptive cruise control and FCC will still work?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Před 2 lety +1

      It's interesting, because Hyundai generally let's you disable and modify everything... BUT you cannot disable adaptive cruise. I think the reason they chose to not give you the option, is because if you're used to it having adaptive cruise control, the possibility of rear ending someone when it's turned off is going to be high, as you'd be expecting it to slow down.
      But you are correct in the assumption that it won't work if covered in snow. It will put a warning up on the instrument cluster that the system is temporarily disabled.

      Thanks for your quick answer. So, another question comes to mind regarding the adaptative cruise control. Could you explain to me: Why is it, that the American version (Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid) CAN switch between adaptative cruise control and conventional cruise control (press cruise control button and press and hold distance limiting button for 3 seconds and, select either conventional or adaptive cruise control from the instrument cluster) and NOT the Canadian version? (I found out about this while regarding videos on Hyundai’s adaptative cruise control (smart cruise control) on CZcams’s website). If you're in the USA, then you'll have access to the limited in the hybrid trim. Here in Canada we only have the hybrid in a luxury.
      However, the top trims:
      Canada:
      Tucson Ultimate with or without hybrid.
      Santa Fe Calligraphy (no hybrid option)
      Both have smart park and surround view with blind view monitor.
      USA,
      Tucson limited, hybrid or not
      Santa Fe limited, hybrid or not
      Also have smart park and blind view monitor w/surround view.

      Hi Berry,
      Thank you for the comment.
      I missed the lights thing, my apologies. It just slipped my mind.
      I don't generally name the colour, because depending on the country you're in, the colours are often a little different, or they're named differently. I'm in Canada, and many of my viewers are from the USA, and I often get this question and the ensuing confusion, so I've learned to be cautious in that regard.
      In Canada, the colour is called magnetic grey and the interior was just black leather.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Před 3 lety

      @johnfr2389 Před 3 lety

      I just test drove both the 2.5T Calligraphy and Hybrid Luxury. The 2.5T is much faster, much higher accelerations! But also much noisier when accelerating, and even slightly noisier at cruising highway speed. That being said, the hybrid was fast enough and even has a few features the Calligraphy has not. It has not much power to spare, so I suspect it would feel slow if loaded with 5 passengers or with the trunk full.

    Hi Ed. Great review. Have a couple of questions for you regarding the sound system. I test drove a Santa fe (preferred trim) here in Ontario recently and the Sound system was very dull. The sales man did not have a Luxury trim available but told me the speakers on the Luxury are better than the preferred that I drove, that the luxury had the same as on the calligraphy (Harman Kardon) but just with less speakers. Is that correct? or are the speakers on the luxury the same as the Preferred? In general, what is your opinion of the sound system on the Luxury trim?

    DOES THE HYBRID WORK LIKE THE RAV4 HYBRID, THAT IS, DOES THE ELECTRIC ONLY SETTING ONLY WORK AT VERY SLOW SPEED AND THEN THE ENGINE CUTS IN AT EVEN MODERATE, ACCELERATION?
    HOW FAR IN KLMS/MILES CAN YOU DRIVE ON ELECTRIC SETTING ONLY AT NORMAL ROAD SPEED?
    IS THE POWER WORSE THAN THE RAV4 - AS THE RAV4 HAS A 2.5L ENGINE AND THIS HAS A 1.5L ENGINE? HOW MANY ELECTRIC MOTORS DOES IT HAVE, ONE AT THE FRONT AND ONE AT THE REAR LIKE THE RAV4 AWD?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Před 3 lety

      Woah.... Ok, I'll try to answer everything here.
      So, no, very different system. Remember, this doesn't compete with the Rav 4 prime, but it competes with the regular Rav4 hybrid. But the Santa Fe is significantly larger, so it doesn't really even compete there either. The Tucson Hybrid actually competes directly with the rav4.
      The Santa Fe has a more powerful, 1.6 turbo and a 6 speed automatic. (No silly cvt like the Toyota)
      -there's no EV only setting on the regular hybrid, but there will be on the phev.
      -it will automatically switch to EV mode whenever it makes the most sense. It can do so at speeds up to 120kph/80mph
      -again, as this is not the plug in hybrid, there is no real "range on EV mode" so we'll have to wait for the plug in variant to answer that question
      -it has more horse power and torque then the Toyota Rav 4 hybrid.
      Rav 4= 219 hp, 221ft torque
      Santa Fe = 225 hp, 259ft torque
      -the Santa Fe hybrid actually has a 1.6 liter TURBO charged engine.
      -it has one main drive electric motor. One motor/generator that takes place of the alternator and the engine starter motor 😁
      -the Santa Fe has a true HTRAC all wheel drive system. It does not use a rear electric motor like the rav4. The HTRAC system performs far better then the rav4 system (check out TFL's slip test of the rav4... It fails miserably)
      Hope that helps.

      So I think the easiest solution for you, would be to find an old cell phone that is no longer being used and just leave it in the vehicle, hidden away in the center console or glove box. You could even leave it plugged in.
      Ultimately the best solution would be to inquire with your company's tech support to get Android auto functioning with your work provided phone.
      It's not so ridiculous to be frank.... Pretty much everyone carries a cell phone these days, and most aren't in the same situation. Plus, the Google assistant will always work better then any automobile manufactured vr system, so it's the preferred choice for most drivers. Personally i can't remember the last time i used my vehicle's built in system 🤷
      It's also possible to utilize Android auto with no data connection. You can even download Google map sections to use for navigation. Android auto has many basic functions that work without data, so a second phone left in the vehicle will do what you need it to.

      @edsgarage001  Před 3 lety

      @@robjohnson4963 well here's the thing... The Santa Fe has never even had a hybrid option prior to 2021... So there shouldn't be anyone needing a belt yet.
      But I'm currently standing over the engine bay of one right now.... If the dealer you're at can't do this job in under an hour, then go to another dealer.
      Remove air cleaner assembly (takes maybe five minutes.
      Remove motor mount to gain better access (maybe 10 minutes?)
      Compress tensioner spring, pull belt off. Reverse procedure. Done. I could do this at home without the right tensioner tool in under an hour.
      Ultimately, this is something that needs replacing maybe 3 or 4 times in 10 years?
      It's not my place to go over the replacement cost of a brand new vehicle's hsg belt 🤷 that doesn't even make sense. Where does it stop? Do I cover the cost of other potentially expensive repairs?? It's a vehicle, they cost a lot to maintain, but Hyundai has always been one of the lower costs to do so, even winning awards by Kelly blue book because of just that!
      Every dealer charges different amounts (guided by Hyundai, but ultimately it's up to the dealership).
      Your original comment, "why don't any reviewers tell the truth about Hyundai/Kia hybrid belt change costs"..... I never lied about it, I never mislead anyone about it... I NEVER EVEN BROUGHT IT UP!!!
      I'm sorry man, but I'm not sure what you're expecting. But if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't even take my vehicle to a dealer for repairs. I'd either do it myself (which I do 99% of the time) or take it to an independent shop. 🤷
