they're actually geniuses, the explosion was to burn away all the sawdust that fell into the barrels when they drilled the holes
They literally used a (used) barrel so the infused alcohol in the wood is just setting it up for explosion like as such that happend, the small blast would not happen due to sawdust.
They likely got most of it out after they poured the rest of the whisky out. The second cut couldn't have possibly created at amount of sawdust for that kind of blow back.

Watching this from Eastern Europe brings a lot of smiles. Here you just go to the hardware store, buy the distiller and go do the magic. Around autumn stores even put out the distillers at the entrance, their most valuable marketing spot. LOL. Totally legit.
Here in the US it isn't illegal to own a distiller, we can get them on Amazon even. It's only illegal to make beverage alcohol. You can however make it as fuel.

When I was in middle school, I turned the barbecuer on but left the lid down while the propane was on because there was only a little bit left so I thought it would take a bit to build up, and I came back with the lighter and opened it, lit it and all I saw were flames! My arms and mouth were singed but after some cold water, a few potatoes and bandage wraps I was fine, minus some hair.
I’m glad I learned this early on tho because I was able to warn this guy not to make that same mistake. Must’ve been in his late 30’s

Imagine the explosion if that soldered joint failed and the flame reached the alcohol vapor in the barrel in the middle of a run.
it wouldn't have been too bad if the barrel was full of liquid. its when there vapours that reach the stoichiometric point, where there's the exact right mix of oxygen and fuel vapour, one spark and boom. the only thing worse than what they did here would be if this happened when the barrel was about 10% full, and the vapour exploded, sends the rest of the alcohol everywhere, vaporises most of that in the explosion, and then that ignites so you end up with a two stage explosion.
its why refuelling an airplane is the most dangerous time, when its full its less likely to go up, but when its running close the empty, the tank is full of vapour and they bring that metal hose up to the tank, they have to make sure the pipes are all earthed otherwise one static spark the moment the hose touches the tank, and boom.

That's like me and my dad in the garage heating up the bolts off the header for my exhaust and lit the padding on the fire wall up and my dad grabbed windshield washer fluid and dumped it and the flames shot up, but luckily I jumped up and blew the flames out with the air gun.
