- Whilst delivering 50 gallons of moonshine across the state to a customer, Tickle realises he needs a bootlegger to not be caught by the police. He also wants to avoid spending all his time on the road rather than at the still site making more moonshine.

What they are doing IS illegal. Making booze and calling yourself Moonshiner is not illegal. These deals where they're selling LARGE quantities to individual buyers for cash money no tax? Pretty sure most of their illegal activity could be summed up as tax evasion, doesn't really sound good to them either but I'm pretty sure that's what this boils down to. Everyone is caught up in the fact that them making the booze and videoing it is legal, but I've watched a few of these and heard them complain about the IRS multiple times...
Even if it's scripted, pretty sure these guys actually break the law, at least some.

I'm from west Virginia.. I remember there was a guy who worked for phone company who was in a hurry to get his pot plants in so two of his coworkers took their bucket trucks up the holler and hauled out right in front of state police lol police never suspect local businesses

Isopropyl "rubbing alcohol" and ethanol are 2 completely different alcohols. One will make you go blind if not just out right kill you, while the other one is toxic still, yet is drinkable.

It's legal to make your own beer and wine up to 200 gallons, but it is illegal to distill the alcohol without paying the tax. You can re-distill purchased alcohol as tax has been paid.
@@2fathomsdeeper No, any distillation is illegal under federal law and always will be due to the dangers of methanol. A typical home distiller cannot accurately test for methanol presence without chemical testing. It doesn't matter if it's paid for or not.
@@cup_and_cone Anything that comes off before the still temperature hits 174F is dodgy. I think methanol comes off from 147F. It has a lower boiling point. If methanol is present it will be in this first runoff. That is why distillers discard this first runoff from the still.
@@Isochest The bottom line is the chemistry/methanol hazard and explosive potential of vapors are half of reason why distillation is illegal, while home wine and beer making has actually become legally almost everywhere these last few years. The other half of the equation is risk of resale... you can buy commercial beer and wine for cheaper than you can make it, so there's little risk of illegal sales. Liquor is completely different. You could sell distilled spirits for significantly more than it costs to make, which governments see as a risk.

Bootlegger taking first and dropping 10 already to 40% was an opportunity to say 30 and then meet halfway at 35. That 5% goes a long way when it's a $8k buyer.
