I had my first ever holiday, arranged by Norfolk County Council for I suppose we'd have been disadvantaged children, in this area. I was 11. The accommodation we stayed in you pass at 26:38 right next to the Cromford canal. That holiday had a huge effect on me and its lovely to see where we spent the week walking. Thank you x

The little abandoned quarrys along the tiny precarious path that goes over the top of the Monsal tunnels are good - amazing geology, raptors, field fayres and wildflowers up there over the next few months

The Dark Peak was my playground, hang gliding, paragliding and rock climbing. Never really went that far into the White Peak, Dovedale, Bunster and Mam Tor on the junction of gritstone and limestone.

And never knew about the link penine bridleway from monsal trail to high peak id normally ride it in reverse to this and get off at dowlow onto a515 into buxton then down a6 onto monsal to bakewell then over beeley moor back through crich to heage about 64 miles.

Thanks Dean, this was excellent. My dad grew up in Great Longstone and my grandad worked on track maintenance from Hassop to the Headstone Tunnel. When we visit England we stay in a self catering cottage in Millers Dale and I have walked that section of the Monsal Trail many times. We have a family friend who was a volunteer at the pump house near Cromford and he gave us a personal tour in the last ten years. This same person also worked the cycle hire at Parley Hay after the family retired from farming in Beeley. So you can see why I enjoyed this sooo much. We once hire bicycles from Parsley Hay and rode with our children probably about 20 years ago. Thanks so much again.

That was a great route covered there Dean. Cycling certainly gives you an opportunity to join up all those great routes in one day. Controversial opinion here but when I’m walking, I’m always keen to get off of those trails and into the dales as quickly as possible. The legs are never keen on too many miles of walking on the flatter ground and being anti social, I like the peace and quiet 😆. Great video as always 👍

Honestly I can't wait until chesterfield canal opens back up because I grew up riding up and down that with my mates and I'd love a narrow boat one day and just boat about and explore the network in my spare time

  • @wasdalemanexploringoutdoor5137

We are very lucky having these fantastic trails in Derbyshire, we often use them as part of a bigger route on a day out to link things up. If you have not done it try the trail from Langley mill along the Erewash Canal to Trent lock, then returning along the disused Nottingham Canal, Its around 54k.
Enjoyed your video, Nice to see some new uploads once again.

Very enjoyable video - had me wallowing in nostalgia! It's a good few years since I last cycled on the HPT & my knees preclude me from doing so again sadly. However, I've promised my dog, Alf, that we'll take a walk up to & around Minninglow burial ground (if there's access) and as the Covid restrictions have been lifted, at least partially, all we need now is the weather!

Brilliant ride Dean well done mate. I was just re-researching doing the PBW this year as part of a charity ride for my friends Daughter that’s raising money at the moment. So was great to see you along parts of the trail 👍 I was wondering how possible it would be for me to do it in two days. I’d certainly get no filming done as I’d have to just concentrate on the miles. I do know people that have done it in less than two days! So I know it is possible but wether or not I could is another story LOL it’s either that or Coast to coast but that would be the easier option on the bike but more logistical getting there and back. 🤔

Fantastic video and great trails. It's a bit of marketing hype about gravel bikes. If you have disc brakes and enough clearance on the frame, you can fit gravel tyres to your road bike and away you go - For canal paths and similar even just getting some 28" or 38" tyres with minimal tread will do the job. For more "off-roady" paths where grip is needed I've got some Pirelli Cinturato Gravel 40" tyres which allow me to go everywhere (well, everywhere my skillz permit - still need a MTB and suspension for the proper off-road trails)
