    This is long time overdue! Finally I can use one good radio für most of my surface stuff. There's nothing better than a open source firmware for stuff like this, because it's actually does what the users want, not what the manufacturer allows. This will put a lot of pressure on the competitors! Serves them right!

      If you can plug it into a receiver port, you can control it. ;) You can assign the same input (i.e. wheel, throttle, switch) to any channel (mixer). And it doesn't even have to act the same for each channel (i.e. one channel might be reversed, or have different rates, expo, etc than the other)... the possibilities are endless...

    Hello. I recognize that the choice of a radio depends on individual preferences and specific needs. Despite watching several videos about this radio, I've noticed a common theme where they fall short in truly elucidating its uniqueness. Thumbnails often boast phrases like "Best Surface Radio Ever" or "Game Changer," yet the content tends to highlight features without delving into their significance or why they are considered groundbreaking.
    For instance, many mention "EdgeTX," but the videos rarely expound on what this feature entails and how it contributes to the radio's distinction. This situation reminds me of my previous experience with the Taranis X9D, which was also touted "open source" but ultimately offered only marginal advantages over my Futaba 14MZ.
    I then switched to the Radiomaster TX16s, only to find it lacking in standout features. Now, I've acquired the MT12, and I'm questioning its uniqueness. The primary reason I opted for it was the Multi Module. Regrettably, it has limitations, supporting only one TRAXXAS receiver and no LOSI receivers, at least for now.
    Speaking of the Multi-Module, it seems to be the sole standout feature across these radios. I appreciate your insights on this matter.

    • @teamfusionracing

      I got it to bind to one of my old DSM receivers. The more I learn about the radio and edgetx..... I'm not surprised because there is so much confusion about what works, what protocols to use etc. How stupid is this.... the protocols list for DSM.... has DSM2, DSMX, DSMR (and radiomaster says it doesn't work for DSMR, but it does). Nothing is listed for DSM1... the old original spektrum system. So I figured I was out of luck for all my old spektrum rxs. But then I saw the LOSI protocol for an old Losi system lsr-3000, which looked like it was probably the old DSM1. Guess what....got the MT12 to bind to an old Spektrum sr-3000 using the LOSI protocol. But it only worked when I had the radio actually touching the receiver. So why is that information not known and provided.... by Radiomaster or the Edgetx community? Maybe it is... and I'm the only one who hasn't seen it

      @@teamfusionracing Merry Christmas! I completely understand your perspective. The documentation could certainly be improved, and it might have been wiser for them to delay the release by a few more weeks or months. This is especially true considering that there wasn't much anticipation or expectation for a surface radio from Radiomaster initially. I acknowledge that there's a multitude of protocols for aircraft, but the situation is different for cars. It would have been better if they ensured coverage for the main protocols, or at the very least, verified compatibility with those that are commonly used. I conducted a ChatGPT search, and the results indicate that some devices use the same protocol, suggesting that they should have ensured compatibility with those to enhance user experience.
      Certainly, I value the open-source initiative and all, but a bit of constructive criticism wouldn't hurt, if you ask me.
      Spektrum: Protocol: DSMX (Digital Spectrum Modulation) and DSM2 are the primary protocols used by Spektrum.
      Futaba: Protocol: Futaba uses its own FASST (Futaba Advanced Spread Spectrum Technology) protocol.
      Traxxas: Protocol: Traxxas uses a proprietary 2.4GHz protocol for its radio systems.
      Flysky: Protocol: AFHDS (Automatic Frequency Hopping Digital System) is a common protocol used by Flysky.
      Tactic (Hobbico): Protocol: Tactic typically uses the SLT (Secure Link Technology) protocol.
      Hitec: Protocol: Hitec uses its own 2.4GHz AFHSS (Adaptive Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) protocol.
      Sanwa / Airtronics: Protocol: Sanwa and Airtronics use the FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) protocol.
      Kyosho: Protocol: Kyosho uses various protocols, and it can depend on the specific model. Some models use the KT-231P 2.4GHz FHSS protocol.
      Arrma (Horizon Hobby): Protocol: Arrma models often include Spektrum receivers and use DSMX or DSM2 protocols.
      Redcat Racing: Protocol: Redcat Racing uses 2.4GHz protocols, and the specific protocol may vary by model.
      Associated (Team Associated): Protocol: Associated often uses the 2.4GHz FHSS protocol for its radio systems.

      Nobody gets this - you are one of the few ones. Adam did also not get it - ELRS? Cool - but for a Crawler? Only if you wanna do long range FPV, and for racers because of the speed.
      So sad, watched _all_ YT video reviews of this radio out so far - and not a single reviewer talked about the 4-in-1 and to what protocols it could bind, not even tried.
      Thought Adam, micro crawler guy, would do it. But he did not get it either, recommends ELRS... what a bummer. For the audience of Cape Crawlers 4-in-1 is the thing, and not ELRS.
      Hope soon a truck (Micro crawler) guy with a bit of knowledge of this will get this radio
      So far all reviews are more than disappointing - no news you would not get from description.

      There hasn't really been a reason for the Multi devs to work on compatibility with surface radios because of AFAIK there has never been a surface radio with Multi support. That's a long way of saying that it doesn't really support that many proprietary surface radio protocols. That being said it wouldn't surprise me if the Multi devs are excited to have a whole new world of protocols to hack, and Multi modules are super easy to update so there may be more support soon. Which might be a boon since RadioMaster loves to release premium versions of their radios about 6 months after release. So waiting might not be a bad choice here not only to see how Multi support goes with surface protocols, but to also see if RadioMaster follows their usual MO and releases something like a "MT12 Max" that has decent QOL features as well as having hardware like the buttons(and possibly trigger and wheel) upgraded with CNC metal parts.

    • @bugman72
      @bugman72 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@donaldsneffe I came here to say basically the same thing. The 4-in-1 module is where it's at, IMHO. Being able to bind to many different RTR receivers is key. The fact that you may not have to buy a receiver for the new vehicle you just bought is a BIG deal. Just bought a new Axial, you should be able to bind it to this radio. New Traxxas? Bind it to this radio. Kyosho Mini-Z? Bind it to this radio. Having previously modded a Devo 7E with additional RF modules and running an open-source OS (Devention), I know of the HUGE benefit to having a multi-protocol radio. This is what has been needed in the surface market for a LONG time.

    • @bugman72
      @bugman72 Před 7 měsíci

      @@CDRaff There are already a multitude of protocols that surface vehicles use that are supported with EdgeTX and thus with the MT12. Traxxas, Spektrum (DSM), Flysky, FrSky, Kyosho, Futaba, etc. The key to this radio is the ability for it to bind to a surface vehicle's OEM receiver. I would be surprised if most, if not all, of the major players in surface vehicles already have their RF protocols covered by this radio and EdgeTX. I can't confirm yet because sadly I don't have one in my hands yet. But as soon as I do, I plan to get with my LHS's owner and we're going to go through all of the brands he carries to see what does and what does not (for now) bind to this radio.

  • @teamfusionracing
    @teamfusionracing Před 6 měsíci

    The radio is a nightmare unless you already have a background in Edgetx radios and understand the complicated way everything works. And then you have to translate some things because it's not a stick radio and we aren't using it to fly things. The real issue is not the complication or capability of edgetx.... learning to unlock the power of what all it can do is great if you want to do that. The issue is that out of the box, the radio is almost unusable.... and the only way to make it function for even basic rc car use, is to navigate some of the complicated edgetx system. Some sort of simplified user interface would be great, not sure if that's possible. But at the very least, it needs some pre-programmed basic models with the normal, basic functions that rc car radios do. One for a crawler, one for a race buggy, one for a basher, etc... with simple trims, endpoints, expos using the radio's gizmos. This radio can do things no other car radio can do.... it can be awesome. But... just a heads up. It also takes hours to set this radio up to have the same basic functions as you get in any entry level car radio. Having said that.... the CZcams tutorials are great.... really helps to see how others are setting up different things.

    Nice video but I still don't understand why and how this radio is "better" than other radios? Sure, it has EdgeTX and ExpressLRS, but how does this actually make it "better" than other radios? 99% of rc car drivers do not need super mega hardcore long range, so having it only makes it "better" for 1% of drivers. EdgeTX means what exactly? Other radios do what they are supposed to do so how can EdgeTX be "better"? I don't get it.
    To me, it is like having a SWISS ARMY KNIFE in the kitchen and all you need to do is cut onions and salary. You just need a knife. All the other features are not necessary and useless. Thanks.

      It's a different thing. You can customize the hell out of it, for a basic 2 channel rc car it's not better any way. But if you're in RC construction vehicles it's a dream. You can controll all the lights, crains, stabilizers ect from this for half/ third the price of a 16 channel radio...
