Fun fact: Touch Generations launched on the exact same day as THE ENTIRE NATION OF SERBIA.
Not true
@@CartersRemasters it is quite true, Serbia separated from Montenegro and declared independence on the same day when the touch generations brand began
If i recall correctly, didn't the concept behind rhythm heaven actually come from a musician wanting to help people improve their sense of rhythm and inspire an interest in music...? Always found that charming about it
@@gamerboy-sp4bs The latest rhythm heaven game is Rhythm Heaven Megamix. It’s a bit different in structure from the other games but it’s still on the Eshop. Get it as soon as possible as you won’t be able to after March
@@SuperSomieStuff *Legally
The guy behind Rhythm Heaven was the founder of Morning Musume, one of the leading idol groups in Japan alongside AKB48. Morning Musume can also be loosely compared (in popularity) to Korean idol groups like TWICE and BTS, although with the Japanese bands being a little bit superior in the quality of the music.

God, the casual crowd for the DS was something else. CrossworDS literally made it so after I got a DSi my old DS was basically taken over by my father. And my father was in his fifties.
I'm surprised he didn't take your DS to play Brain Age or Personal Trainer with it, or even better, Rhythm Heaven.
@@generalcjg my dad did do Brain Age iirc but only the math bits. My dad is surprisingly good at mental math despite having a fifth grade reading level without even a GED. My dad said he had no use for booksmarts when he could make a good living helping his dad on the farm or going to the mills. (Which he did tbh cause I was getting brand new video games in the middle of the recession)
Proto-mobile gamers!
Oh man, that reminds me of the “Namco museum collection” game I had as a kid. It went from my dad asking to what I was playing to him basically stealing my DS from me to hide and play it when I wasn’t around lol
My dad got all perfects on Rhythm Heaven Fever waaay before me and my sister did. The Wii causal audience is no joke either.
I'd love to see Scott do a video about games on things that aren't consoles; games on devices just as "extra" features. iPods, old cell phones, watches, the little Chrome T-Rex game, etc.
Billiam did iPod games already.
@@ajzeg01 If content creators let originality be a criteria for stuff they choose to cover, nothing new would ever be made. It’s not about what’s covered. It’s about how it’s covered.
@@theshepdawg6809 I don't think that was the point in them saying that. I think they were just suggesting to watch someone who talked about it because it clearly interests the original commenter.

"It's Where's Waldo, but without Waldo......so it's Where's Waldo. Where the f**k is he?"
This stupid joke just killed me. It was like a 1-2 punch.
I've been playing Picross 3D in my pastime for about half a year now and currently trying to complete all the levels with three stars. I've never cried over mis-tapping a block until I played this game. The amount of pain and anguish this game has caused me is exhaustive and by the time I complete the final hard levels, I'm never playing this game again. 10/10
Breaking the wrong block was an instant restart for me. I’ve also got two 100% complete save files on Round 2. I love it but it has less content than the first one disappointedly
O my god, I was trying to do the same thing too! It’s unbelievable that after 13 years I’ve haven’t 100% beat the game yet… this game is infinite.
I cant believe Scott played the DS, truly revolutionary
Scott needs to finally review RuneScape, it's crazy he hasn't mentioned his maxed Ironman
@@VanBurenOfficial i remember back in 12th grade, we had nothing to do for the last month of the school year, so everyone played runescape on the schools computers lol
8:22 Scott is willing to destroy his boiler and flood his house for the sake of a joke. What a legend
I think Scott the Woz is best described as a "Hardcore Casual" gamer. I never would have thought this to exist and that's why watching his videos is so genuinely fascinating.

"Is that a threat"
Nintendo DS is really way ahead of its time. This was back when touch screens were primitive at the time when we used stylus to control it before using fingers to control the smartphone's touch screen.
And the funny thing? My DS lite touchscreen feels a "touch" more precise. Could just be the stylus, could just be my fat fingers. Either way, I miss my Note phones.
I think it was a good first for dual screens and a good first experience for those that never used a PDA/touch screen before at least before the iPhone came out of course.
I mean not many really bought a Tiger Gamecom and especially it was ahead of the DSi as it had two cartridge slots the DSi was going to but didn't do nothing else has 2 game card slots (1997-2000), or Tapwave Zodiac (2003-2005 not great competitor to the DS/PSP but was a PDA still and marketed to say it's for those grown out of a Gameboy XD) so the DS (2004-2011 whatever ish of later games) was the closest finger or stylus.
This. Nintendo wins again.
@@qbrt4050 you mean the galaxy note? Still a thing, the just killed off the branding and not they're the "S ultra's"

@@Murillos1 as CZcams as it is, it might get Age-restricted or might get demonetized and I don't want him deal with that garbage.
@@Murillos1 Might be a little out of Scott's strike zone since he's not necessarily known to love very anime esque stuff in the first place. There definitely is merit, though. I'd like to see him try and cover Senran Kagura since that series originated on 3DS.

I'm the best philosopher that's ever existed in the history of everything ever, ever.
Check this out.
Strangers walk down the street in the city, sometimes saying "hi" or "hello" to the other person in sight. One will boil pasta and when they drop the noodles into the water, for ONLY A MILLISECOND they will think of how they never will know the strangers they said "hi" to as they passed them by.
Furthermore, they'd rather have the pasta noodles hurry TF up and get soft and chewy - than to have a lame cliché friendship with whoever those random fuqs were.
Yeah, I know I'm the best, you ain't gotta tell me.
Plus, you're in luck. I only charge 285 dollars for an autograph.
I remember my mom getting me Personal Trainer Math when I was a kid as a “video game to help learn multiplication tables”
Man, now I’m feeling nostalgic for math in elementary school. That’s wild
You remember the pokemon ranger games where you'd just circle the screen for hours lmao
Merry Christmas everyone! Stay safe out there! You're awesome!

Merry Christmas Y'all!
Merry Christmas all.
Hey all, Mary Chris-Miss here!
Thanks!! I’m in Colorado, so I’m gonna go outside and catch frostbite, just for you
11:57 I love how Scott keeps up the gag of having a gun pointed at him even when it’s not there visually
Plot twist:
The gun held at his head is going to be the plot of the Christmas special.
Many MANY hours sunk into every single activity in rhythm heaven, elite beat agents, brain age, nintendos, and hotel dusk (as well as layton etc) and man i wouldn't change anything... i had endless fun. Thanks (old) nintendo and rest in peace to one of the ultimate visionaries Satoru Iwata, who I believe was the true heart of nintendo. Thanks for the great video Scott and merry Christmas!
I probably wouldn't be a ""gamer"" without a lot of these games and the DS in general getting me into gaming. As a kid I wouldn't have been able to ask for a proper 'gamer' console, but a DS was totally fine because all the marketing made it look really appealing to kids. And then my dad got me a flashcart and a whole load of ROMs for various games, and it spiralled from there...
I'm currently typing this on a steam deck, so it definitely got me into gaming successfully!
the fact that scott owns a physical copy of panty party of all things
Thank Nintendogs.
Thanks for all the great years and consistently great videos Scott. I really watch these just to hear about the history of things I tend to already know but it's like hearing it from a friend that keeps me interested. I like that your videos aren't usually tied to whatever gaming news is out and popular with the search engines and how you focus on topics that interest you and share your personal experience and history with games. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and get to relax from the video grind for a while and recharge like Chibi Robo. In all sincerity thanks Scit.

As someone whose first video game was Professor Layton and the Curious Village, it was definitely approachable, and really was how I got into gaming.
Would love to see Scott cover the whole series, to give it the recognition it deserves.
Even Scott can't resist saving up those videos to release in December! His uploads have been prolific.
Electroplanton is more of an instrument than anything else. I like to use it as musical inspiration to sample and create full tracks from.
The fact that Scott is going out of his way to release 5 more vids this year just to keep us entertained before he releases his big Christmas vid is both worrying and commendable.😁👌

As a Hotel Dusk archivist, thank you for featuring the game! The game is also Touch Generations in Canada, and also has a Korean release. Currently am working to get all region release copies for public archival.
I agree that it is not exactly a casual styled game, as it can be hard to pick it back after a while if you do not remember what you did or write it down, and even some puzzles get challenging due to their lack of hints, but Layton giving me pop quizzes was the bane of my childhood.
“Nintendo I don’t need you for this” *sprays soda at himself*
I genuinely laugh so hard….. twice.
Scott's more independent then you think.
You can even see his shirt is wet, probably from previous takes
This was such a fun era, I had way too much fun with brain age and Nintendogs than I think I should've had, but it was cozy and zen and that was part of the fun for me. We need more of that cozy mid 00s Nintendo back, Clubhouse on Switch is kinda like that

Weird occasion for Scott to talk about Hotel Dusk, but I take it. The sequel "Last Window" also misses the Touch Generations Logo.

I find it especially funny that Elite Beat Agents was labeled as a Touch Generations game, as the entire soundtrack was based around the theme “would this song be played at a college party”. Not to mention the white blood cell’s nurse outfit in “La La” mission in the game. Grandpa can definitely not relate to that game, even if it has (in my opinion) the best ending to any music game of all time.

This episode made me wish I had my copy of brain age right now
I got back into Brain Age playing Brain Age this past summer, and I actually had a lot of fun playing it almost daily. I tend to go back to it every year.
Also the Elite Beat Agents covers are so good, especially the Highway Star cover! I love how good the songs sound for being on the DS sound card.
I would pay so much money to have scott do a whole video on the rhythm heaven series

This reminds me of the time I loaned Brain Age to a friend. She was pretty obsessed with the sudoku mode of this game and cleared all of them. I later gave her this copy to her birthday.
It's crazy how simple games like these were able to connect with people who normally didn't play videogames and I think that was overall the strength of the Nintendo DS.
Can we talk about the fact that this man never asks for people to subscribe, like holy shit it just goes to show that if you make great content, there isn’t even a need for it
When I was growing up, I loved pulling on the tug-of-war toy on Nintendogs so high that the dog eventually left the ground due to the toy it was holding on to being too high.
I would then proceed to spin the toy around so fast the dog went flying due to losing it's grip. Those were the days!
You awakened some primal memories in my head I didn't know I had.
I would lift them up with the tug of war toy and swing them in circles if I remember correctly haha.
@@chantelstenner2553 Yep! It seemed to happen either when you spun them really fast or when managed to get a pendulum motion that's also fast enough. Pretty impressive for the DS!

I remember Brain Age got a 3DS continuation called "Concentration Training" that I was completely obsessed with years ago
I only ever played the demo but it was great, it basically was the classic series of simple math problems but it added a gimmick that you had to write the answer to a given problem _from some amount before the currently-shown_ one, I got really good at it too
I recall seeing the touch generations logo on a couple games now that you mention it, but I don't see how the branding ever helped in any way at all.
