    Hello Dr James
    Thanks for the video. I would like to inform you that mostly high impact factor journal prefer ward method and the main concern of cluster analysis is number of cluster. So,it is not a good practice to pre determine the number of cluster,it shows manipulate the number of cluster. SAS program offer cubic cluster technique which allow to know how many cluster the data can draw.

    Hi Dr.James, I wonder whether you have an idea for my problem. I am now doing cluster analysis on categorical data which are socio-demographic data by using SPSS. However, I have no idea which approaches the most appropriate for my case is, whether k means or two step. I know already that hierarchical doesnt fit my data since my data contains around 500 cases. Do you have an idea for my case? thank you in advance

    • @Gaskination
      @Gaskination  Před 7 lety

      Two step is a safe choice. Categorical is a little tricky since it will split them very strongly based upon category.

    Hello James - thank you for posting your very helpful videos on cluster analysis. I wondered if you could point me in the direction of information that will help me to justify my choice of 2-step cluster analysis over Ward's method. I have tried both approaches and really like the output from 2-step ... but dont think that will be sufficient justification for my PhD thesis 😀 Many thanks.

    Professor, Can i do Hierarchial cluster analysis, using 4 individual Likert items (each measured on a 5 point scale). These 4 items assess attitude of respondent, and they constitute a single latent variable, in my study.

    • @Gaskination
      @Gaskination  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You can use those variables in this way. It should produce meaningful results. The clusters it forms would be an indication of the mutually-held attitudes of groups of respondents.

    Hi Dr. James, thanks a lot for the video! I would like to ask something. During the screen plot, you said that these data did not seem to cluster very well due to the schema they get. That it means that you can not cluster such data? If the schema of the screen blot is like that, we should no continue with a cluster analysis? Thank a lot if you answer!!

    • @Gaskination
      @Gaskination  Před 3 lety +1

      They don't form a few informative clusters, but instead seem to cluster into their own silo. In this case, the data is not very good for clustering with the hierarchical approach.

      I didn't. If you wanted to though, you could run this analysis separately for each restaurant. Or you could do a two-step and use restaurant as an outcome variable (doesn't use it to classify, but does show you the trend in restaurant based on cluster).
