    Well, they've been listening to you, and us, and here is what they've done: What’s New
    1. Trail function is now available. When the Trail function is activated, delay or reverb effects will remain for a few seconds after switching between patches or switching off effects.
    Delay effects that support Trail: Digital, Analog, Dynamic, Real, Tape, Mod, PingPong
    Reverb effects that support Trail: Room, Hall, Plate, Fl-Reverb, Swell-Reverb, Spring, Mod
    2. CTRL footswitch mode. The footswitch LED will change the brightness to indicate the current situation.
    3. Fixed the latency when changing between presets. Fixed the pause when turning on/off effect blocks.
    4. New alerts for importing presets with TONE CAPTURE files. When importing TONE CAPTURE presets, if the TONE CAPTURE file already exists on the target patch, the user will be alerted to select “Replace” to replace the TONE CAPTURE file or select “Save As” to select another save slot.

    To be completely fair most (if not all) of the issues you had with it were fixed in firmware updates, plus there is also the Lite version, which is pretty much the same but muuuch cheaper ($200 less) cause it doesn't have some of the things that to most people are useless or just addable, like the synth, the 30 minute looper and the expression pedal (which you can just buy separately). But great video nonetheless! It's refreshing to see someone be harshly honest with their opinion while not being unpolite! Cheers!

    I actually found your videos when I was deciding to buy my pod hd500. I had an XT Live years ago which I wasn't super excited by, but then I found a great deal on the hd500 and your videos made me decide to buy it (and then line6 student discount made the upgrade packs affordable, which was nice).
    Anyway, yeah I think Mooer missed the mark a bit with pricing. Their Preamp Live, Radar, and other pedals are fantastic and have done a great job of jumpstarting their brand name, and the GE200 is pretty sweet for the price, and even the Black Truck is pretty sweet. And the GE300 does look like a pretty competent device overall. But, they're charging big-boy bucks for it. It's $900 on amazon right now, compared to $1100 for the Helix.
    The thing is, Line6 has been making processors for a decade or two at this point, and has an established, long term reputation in the marketplace and so they've earned being able to charge top dollar. Even the Headrush pedals are based on a product with close to a decade of history behind them. But then for Mooer to step in with a product which is "adequate" but unpolished, but charge premium prices for it, is stupid. If they swung in at $500ish, that'd be amazing and they'd probably get incredibly good press, and they'd earn the street cred to release a high end product next time. But for now? I don't think it's going to go well for them.

    I see it like this. If you're an 'all-around' musician who plays gigs everyday jumping from a metal show from one night to an indie/dreampop show the following day (or in the same night!), the GE300 is for you.
    If all you care about is high gain metal sounds that you can record with and play live with in a band...and that's all you want to do, the GE200 is for you. I personally don't see much use for the tone capture, the added send/return, and synthengine for a 'purely-metal' musician.
    In my local metal scene, I know a few GE200 owners who initially pre-ordered the 300 because they thought it's 'better' only to be disappointed that it isn't that different from the 200 when they started using it. On paper, the 300 may initially have better metal tones than the 200 but once third party IRs come in to play, I feel that they're really close., with one maybe being better than the other depending on the IR used.
    Wishfully thinking, I wish Mooer would make a variant of the 300 that replaces the synthengine with a 'built-in Mooer baby bomb'. For metalheads playing live, that would be much more useful.

    Btw have you ever reviewed the boss GT1 ? Entry price multi fx

    • @zaporoshti3392
      @zaporoshti3392 Před 3 lety +1

      Boss GT1 has 2 generic FX blocks for which you can choose a variety of boss effects (such as their pedals). The other blocks are preassigned (such as 1 NS block, 1 reverb block, 1 delay block etc). You can download tone studio software to look at the signal chain as it works without the unit itself.
      I would prefer it had 1 compression, 1 chorus and 1 equalizer effect block additionally too. But you do not need these as often actually. For instance, you need OS/DS, chrous and compression to get a solo sound, you need overtone and pitch shifter to get an organ sound etc. But it would have helped definitely especially the equalizer. But you could put a real equalizer pedal to the output of boss gt1 maybe.
      Strong points of Boss GT1:
      It has usb audio interface connection to a pc (so you do not need a separate one)
      Boss effects are quite good (from the videos on youtube, I would say Boss units definitely sound better than Helix units)
      Simple design for amps (the amps work well for their intended genre but you don't have much choice as other multifx pedals -> this can be a con too)
      It works with batteries.
      Cons of Boss GT1:
      It does not have so many buttons so a live use might be an issue, you need to prepare your patches before a live performance.
      It does not have FX loop (GT100 has 1 and GT1000 has 2 mono or 1 stereo) so you can only add pedals before GT1 and after GT1, you get the idea. You might use a real tube screamer and real compression pedal before GT1 but you might also need a noise gate at the beginning.
      It does not have IR loader feature. Mooer GE200 has so it might be a con.
      Lastly and one of the most important cons are the screen is really from the previous decade. It looks like tetris screen. Mooer and Line 6 has colored screen nowadays, Boss really needs to update the screen. It does not effect the sound quality but why not look at a better designed colored screen?

  • @mcr0741
    @mcr0741 Před 4 lety

    @zaporoshti3392 Před 3 lety

    mooer ge300 has tone capture feature which is usable on guitars and cabinets etc. That is kemper functionality in a much lower price range. I think this unit only needs 1 more fx loop and the ability for parallel signal chains. If it had those, it would be perfect.
    btw Line 6 is Japanese (parent corp is Yamaha) while Mooer is Chinese.

    There seem to be a lot of noise about the 'tone capture' feature of this unit. What's your opinion about it?

    Just ordered one.
    Only downside for me is no dual amps.
    Would be amazing if they could add that in an update but it's unlikely.

    Try the unit with impulse responses. I have a ge200 and it sounded about the same out of the box. I was disappointed until I tried the IR's I've used in the past with line 6. It blew the line 6 stuff away with that. I'm sold on my ge200 and I'd like to try the ge300 now.

  • @ShinigamYpn

    If GE300 was 400-500, it would take a big chunk of Helix LT market. But, at this pricing, as already said multiple times, nope. It's not rivalling, Line 6 still has Yamaha behind it and continuous software improvements and release cycles, has some very nice boutique amps models, it's just much better overall.

    Great honest review!
    Anyway, have you tried out Boss Katana series and Zoom G5n? Would love to hear your opinion on those digital modelling devices and how far those are from helix. I have been thinking to add Zoom and pair it with my Katana or selling my Katana and its cab to buy Helix + cheap powered PA speakers.

    Soundwise would you recommend this one over the Preamp Live? Does this one sound really better?

    I think I am going to go for the Headrush... seems the easiest to use AND the best sounding compared to this Mooer, the Helix, etc. Zoom sounds pretty good though at much lower cost, oddly enough...

    11:03 That gap in swithing on and off effects is completely unacceptable, even my old Boss GT-pro does that without any kind of gap at all and its from 2007, switching patches does produce a gap of about the same length though.

      Do the delay trails carry on when switched off within a patch?

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Před 5 lety

      @@thecalmcommotion6204 Doesnt seem like it judgeing from that part of the video i linked to, there is no delay or reverb at all after he shuts them off. The gap bothers me much more though, even if that gap was during patch swithing it wouldnt be ideal these days, it wouldnt bother me much for patch switch though. As far as i remember the delay trails carry on after switching off the delay on my Boss GT-pro, not when patch switching though, possibly if you have the same delay in the patch you are switching to, i dont remember.
      Delay trails isnt an important feature to me , when i switch sounds live i feel it can even be an advantage that you get a distinct break from the sound you had before. That gap when switching off/on delay and reverb within a patch like in the clip is more of a dealbreaker to me, if it were when patch swithing it would be ok although not ideal, but when switching on/off effects its a big no no.

      @@Stefan- yeah my gt10 within a patch the delay Trails continue when I turn the effect off, and I actually definitely need that to happen for some of my patches, in between patches I'm not that concerned but within a patch the delay trails have got to carry on when the effect is turned off

    I agree with everything you tell but! You should have covered the tone capture feature with either your engl or laney and talk about the organic feeling and if a good tone capture will get you to the next level.

    Ok, but what I see was just the random sounds of the presets and not trying to get the best sounds as possible. Almost always, in 100% of multi effects, the presets aren't good enough or not usable. Still missing to show the editing and the possibilities of the I/O options. Honest but weak review.

    Unfortunately, the Stomp is really really good at synth sounds, so that makes this unit a bit redundant for me.
