    Very cool Dash! Now I understand why the last Defenders made have a huge center section. Put large radius on all the corners. They will match the ones on the exterior sheet metal. Also large circular A/C vents kind of like JK Jeeps

      @LostCauseRanch  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks, yeah they had to do something to make the modern stuff work in there I guess haha. I think the radius would add a nice touch.

    That's pretty cool. Well done. Mock-up is essential.

    Dude, you forgot to make room for the licorice dispenser. Now it has to go on ceiling. Nice work looks really good

    I ripped out my factory AC knee-cooler POS once my Defender came out of warranty 19 years ago. I fitted a unit in the roof at the back and ran the AC hoses there. 1000% better and the dash “plank” remained clear so I could fit a 2DIN Android unit for sound and satnav. Made a unit to house speakers and AC unit at the back just above the door. Mine is a 110 CSW TD5. Now , 400 000km later starting to do a complete rebuild. Going stage 3 hybrid turbo , new interior, all seals etc, rebuilding engine ( nothing wrong atm, just now is the time), and I have a plan to make the windscreen fold down so I can do photography in our game parks a bit easier. I’ll keep the AC layout as described

    The high spec disco 2 in Japan had a rear air con unit where the ducky seats go. I used one of these units behind the passenger seat with duct up over door and across top of window. Just an alt suggestion.

      I’ll have to check that out. I’m thinking it will come around fine and look the part when it’s all said and done.

      I’m personally not one for the Puma dash in this era Defender. Nothing wrong with it, just not my preference. So hopefully this is a decent compromise.

    Wow loving the new Arts and Craft cardboard dashboard, just think how much safer in a crash it would be, you just might be onto something here lol 😂 Really like how it’s coming together, perhaps a little more shaved off the corners of the centre pod might help with the overall aesthetics 🤔 Great to see the Eco Disco back up and running, was concerned she would be spending the winter in the Wood. 🤣 Keep up the great work.😎👍

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Definitely have a good crush factor haha.
      Yea I think the center stack will be streamlined quite a bit more. Just going to wait for the actual mock up hvac box to play with it some more.
      There was a chance that the ECO would hibernate there haha.

      It does kind of have that feel. Just going to try and make sure it appears period correct.

    Good idea with the cardboard, pattern makers were craftsman that developed ideas from paper to 3D before CAD machines.

    Very cool! I think mocking up with cardboard is the way to go. I do wonder about those outer vents, though. With the dash as tall as you have mocked up, those vents will end up hidden from the inside view. Is that the intention?
    Also, I would suggest bolting down the trans and 4x4 shifters to re-evaluate your CAD. That center stack seems to be a bit low, at least on the video.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The outer vent ductwork should be able to be ran through the lower part of the dash. In my head at least.
      It will be tight and I think I’ll have a fair amount of room to go up with the bottom of the center stack. Just going to wait for the lock up box before re working that.

    Fyi. VINTAGE Aire Mini will easily fit the space. I converted my dash to a Puma and the Mini just fits behind the flat area with room for a headless double din stereo.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 10 měsíci

      Good to know, I think this will end up being a touch slimmer than the Puma or at least that is the goal. But it is nice to know we have that room. Thanks for the info!

    Dash looks good, And like mentioned how much can be passed through the bulkhead? Cardboard is the way to go to se what it will look like 🙂 But the mock up unit will help decide too. And 61 deg here at 3pm lol

      I’m hoping to just have the lines pass through but we will see.
      60ish is about what we are getting the the afternoon here. But man is I could at night in the morning.

    look at a defender tdci dash i have one in my early 300 tdi and they look good just for ref ,you can also make a box that goes under the hood with the heater matrix and cooler matrix mounted inside it .

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 10 měsíci

      That’s kind of what I was going after to some extent, glad it translates.
      I’d like to keep it out of the engine bay if possible, but that is what may end up happening if i can’t get it cleanly done inside.
