      @Dogurasu I really don't care WHAT style he prefers... he DOES mix them up some, and he always edits perfectly to the background music. (I think that's one of the reasons he uses so much hip-hop... the beats tend to be simple and prominent.)

    "We'll be able to block out all oxygen and get a perfect weld...probably!" You know, you guys do your best work when you're indulging in this kind of special madness. Steele and Stelter, specializing in blades featuring $10 worth of materials and $195 billion in labour. My hat is off to you.

      KInda like Kyle Royer, at least when it comes to the steel he uses. Obviously he is above and beyond when it comes to fit and finish and attention to the most minute of details, but he also makes the same basic knife a million times, so he has way more time to optimize and perfect each and every little detail and step. But stil, I hope you get what I want to say, that being, you are absolutely right!

      whats yor take on calling this steel damascus? im certain he isnt sourcing his ore from the middle east and that it isnt a crucible steel with a specific set of minerals in the proper per portions to call this damascus they do make fome nice pattern welded steel though

    • @ailurusfulgens1849
      @ailurusfulgens1849 Před 3 lety +33

      @@mobiousenigma Damascus steel is widely understood as layering different steels. Usually high nickel/high carbon. Arguing otherwise is unecessary semantics. Yes, historically, Damascus steel refers to steel made in Damas and whatnot, nobody cares but historians and people trying to show off, really.

      @sturankin8678 Před 3 lety +5

      @@ailurusfulgens1849 Yeah this is now definitely considered Damascus steel but even though I'm no historian in the slightest, I still find it interesting how they made and refined their steel long before we were able to just buy what we want!

    I'm really glad Will is finally showing his chef knife skills. If I remember correctly that's what he was selling and making predominantly before he joined Alec, and while a massive zweihander or a crazy blade with gold inlay and diamonds is a true spectacle, a chef knife is something everyone will own at some point. It'd truly be a dream to own a custom hand-made chef knife, but I personally would never drop cash on something like a large sword

    Alec told us long ago that you used to make chef's knives for a living, I have been hoping to see you do it ever sense.

    You perhaps visited Il Papiro Firenze in Florence? My family went there last year, and we spent quite a lot of time in that place, talking with the artist, watching his process, and then buying several things more than intended. That’s a good inspiration to pull damascus patterns from, well done sir.

    Was expecting to see you with Tomer from Florentine Kitchen Knives when
    I saw the title.
    A collab with Tomer finishing the handle with his stacked rings would be amazing.

    Behold, the young but awesome young Blade-smith called Will Stelter, fresh off of whooping the crap off of Mr Alec Steele at most all the VS’s challenges here he is to show us all his continuing awesomeness at making not only an awesome chefs knife but also a knife that, if you may be unfortunate to try to rob in the dead of night. He will thrust you through with a beautiful knife, unless he shoots you first because, damn he’s good.

    I would love to see the patterns you guys could come up with by using a Wire EDM to cut your shapes

    Loved this video. It reminded me of why I subscribed to begin with (I don't need the shenanigans to be entertained when this level of talent and vision is on display). Keep it up, gents!
