Borivali, a suburb near the northwest corner of Mumbai, is primarily populated by Gujaratis, with the rest of the population following. Borivali was historically home to East Indians and tribal people.

The official language of Maharashtra, Marathi, is spoken by 25.62 percent of the population, primarily in the eastern suburb and Gorai area.
