Polymer Clay Ocean themed veneer Tutorial

- First of all, this is not my technique. This was originally done by Samantha at Jessama designs. I watched it years ago before I was ever introduced to polymer clay. It's a really fun technique.

I know what you did that’s bugging you and maybe someone else has already responded. When you initially put the jagged cut through the middle of the “footballs”, one was off to the left a little and one was off to the right a little, so when you swapped halves, you were putting the two bigger halves into one earring and the two smaller halves into the other earring.
When you chose to do it with the square technique, you could center exactly where your oval was over the jagged middle.
I love these ideas, and I actually loved the black ones as well.
On another note, I was in the nail industry for seven years until Covid. We used isopropyl alcohol to remove the tacky layer after a UV cure. The closer to 100% isopropyl alcohol, the better it works.
Hi there, beautiful work. As a nail tech, we have wipe and no wipe gels so after they have been cured properly under UV lamp they have to be wiped with alcohol to remove tacky layer which is the uncured layer. Also UV takes longer to cure than LED - hope this helps x

I have wondered before about cutting things in half and swapping them, so I'm glad I saw this. I live in Australia too, and now that you've reminded me, I do recall seeing this. I loved the veneer as it was too. I'd put a white pearl backing on it, bake, resin, then add ocean inspired charms to the front, either dangling from the jump ring, or even embedded in the resin. I also think the half and half version with a sand coloured clay would look great with ocean charms. The zigzag cut down the center would look like a wave on the shore.
I like how it crackles. I have some gold leaf and may do something like that but with black. Just never thought of this before, I am not into the polymer as much as I used to be so these tutorials really get me going again. Lots of thoughts pinging my brain, just watching you as you work. I understand that you were not as happy with the black ones, but for me I liked them a lot. I am into bold colors, and that is how the world works.

I like JDiction UV Resin the most, I don't know if you've tried it or not, but I find it has a good working time and doesn't pull away from the edges like so many others I have tried. I hope that helps. If not, I'm sorry I wish I had another suggestion. Thank you for sharing, I love these colors, they are my favorites and I don't use them enough! 🙂
Jdiction has a high viscosity resin that works well for me!
I find it moves away from the edges. Does this happen to you?
@@TheCreativeDork5 Not the newer version. It's fairly thick so gives a good dome too. I pour a good amount on, spread it, use lighter and check the edges again. Seems to work pretty good.
I think for the smaller one, you need to turn the cutter around because you made it inverted. T least that’s my theory. Also I don’t mind going on the adventure with you. Love your face!!!!! Also love these cutters !!!!

Irene I also had purchased some resin that just did not want to cure all the way but found that the original UV rays from the sunlight (sun) did the trick with that uncooperative uv resin, hope this helps you & TY for all you do! P.S. all tuts resemble another in some way or other as they all involve clay, rollers & all the other standard clay stuff ❤
Our sun hasn't been that warm. Never tried resin outside in the winter. Will try tomorrow

Irene, those turned out BEAUTIFUL! I know you didn't like the 1st squiggle that you used (the large one) but loved it. That was my favorite & I hope you decide to sell them. Again, beautiful result...thanks for sharing.

When you first started this it reminded me of a Jessema tutorial from 3 years ago when she was doing her “Crackle” series. I went to look through her tutorials and she wasn’t using silver leaf on the crackle. So I don’t know, I’ll watch your video in full to see where you are going with this and see if it triggers any more memories.

@@TheCreativeDork5 I think she posted a couple about 2 or 3 months ago. Maybe she is taking a break, at least I hope it’s just a break as I enjoy her videos, too. I loved how the pendants you made came out. The crackled silver really made them sparkle and the colors were beautifully soft.

Use alcohol to remove resin tackiness
If y’all want to make cutters that you can make different sides, make them with curvier sides not such pointed sides the points are harder to keep together, I know many of us would love sharp points but with clay it becomes a gerrrrrrr factor. lol wider maybe with the points (farther apart) as for your resin tiny pandora and the one you have and it’s sticky gently mix it, the partial in it are separating and ya need to get them mix in again. I have hd many do this and found mixing them or if it’s a cylinder container gently roll it. Give it a try. And yes the mix turned out beautiful, tfs hugs from AV

@@TheCreativeDork5 I think you did as I was writing this. But I do know you can make your points wider, don’t know how else to describe what I’m saying. lol maybe less points on the cutter, and that would make them farther apart hard to make a description in words. 🤣🤣🤣 Tfs hugs
Thank you for the tips, Karen❣️ I have had problems with UV Resin not fully curing, too, no matter how long I leave it under the uv light. I’m going to try both the things you mentioned and see if I can get it to work. I hate when the pieces feel kind of sticky when it doesn’t fully cure!!
I meant, would you like to draw your idea for me? I hate talking into my phone. Also as far as resin, will try that. With from the heart supplies resin... It comes out every time. It just works. I want to see if I can contact her and if she'd be willing to let us know who her supplier was

What brand of alcohol inks, silver leaf do you use?
I think it's called Ranger Rick? You can get it at Michael's. The silver leaf is just from Amazon. No particular brand. Whatever is cheapest.
