    For others it is defending their goal. For Italians, it is defending their honour, integrity and dare I say their country. Italians are the only ones who celebrate defending a goal like scoring one.

    • @Al2006essandro
      @Al2006essandro Před 5 lety +37

      @@asevado I disagree with that statement. Rossi did flop against Ajax, because Rossi could have easily blocked the shoot with his foot, yet Rossi wasnt known to block balls with his Feet. So Kluivert, who had a goalinstinct similar to Inzaghi beat Rossi in that Champions Final. And also, that Ajax team was incredibly strong. Yet, here I am and I say that Rossi is in my opinion the most underrated goalkeeper in history. Maybe an unlucky one considering his career. He could throw the ball with his hands like others do with their feet! Never seen any other like him. And he made many incredible saves. You also have to consider that Seria A was at his time the strongest of the world. Btw, it wasn't any Ajax, it was the strongest Ajax of its team history in my point of view. (Yes, even stronger than Cruyff era)

Because of them, i switched from a striker to a defender back in my days. To this day, I absolutely enjoy playing defense. Maldini + Nesta + Cannavaro + Chiellini + Baresi are, in my opinion, better than any CR7 and Messi out there. Unfortunately, only strikers get all this popularity out there and win different awards. Ma dai... Gentile era un picchiatore e basta.
      All'epoca il calcio era molto piu fisico (ho cominciato ad andare a SanSiro nel '83)...il regolamento consentiva molto piu contatto e sanzionava fondamentalmente solo l'entrata da dietro a forbice (a volte manco quella...), persino le gomitate erano punite solo se palesemente volontarie....anche tirare la maglia era abbastanza consentito salvo che il giocatore venisse palesemente strattonato e sbilanciato per piu di 2 o 3 secondi.
      E si giocava "a uomo".
      In pratica giocatori come Gentile o Furino si appiccicavano a un avversario assegnato e lo picchiavano tutta la partita tirandogli la maglia, dandogli gomitate o entrandogli sulle gambe appena si avvicinava la palla a lui.

    • @EVOZORE
      @EVOZORE Před 3 lety +5

      @@ClaudeMagicbox Ma lo dici te stesso che allora si giocava "a uomo" e che le continue trattenute erano "normali" e io ci aggiungo che non esistevano le ammonizioni per falli tattici ne la espulsione per doppia-ammonizione e tutto ciò é stato a favore di Gentile sicuramente, vero no?! Ma vale per qualsiasi altro difensore (o mediano) di quei tempi ma non tutti sono riusciti a non fare segnare i propri avversari - Gentile spesso, molto spesso ci riusciva annullandoli completamente. Questa é la differenza! Ci tengo a precisare che non era cattivo, quei falli come per esempio quello di Benetti su Castellini, non erano da lui perché puntava molto sul anticipo e se non gli riusciva anticipare, bloccava con fisico gli avversari appena gli arrivasse il pallone (nel momento che cercavano di girarsi verso la porta sua) perché riusciva a "leggere" i loro movimenti...poco talento tecnico ma tatticamente e difensivamente nel suo reparto e ruolo da marcatore a uomo, é stato un giocatore fuori dalla norma.

    • @fradiavolo11
      @fradiavolo11 Před 3 lety +3

      @@EVOZORE Sono d'accordo, Gentile giocava molto sull'anticipo e sul fisico. Era rude, ma non un picchiatore. In tutta la carriera fu espulso una volta, per doppia ammonizione (proteste). E per parecchi anni e' stato praticamente insuperabile, gli davano l'attaccante piu' forte e lui lo annullava. Benetti era un delinquente, andava per fare male, e spesso pure ci riusciva. Tardelli era un'altra carogna, talmente bravo anche in costruzione da far dimenticare le entrate assassine. Zoff-Gentile-Cabrini-Brio-Scirea con Furino davanti e' sta una delle difese piu' forti viste in Italia, credo alla pari solo di quelle dell'Inter anni '60 e del Milan di Sacchi/Capello. Ed e' stata l'ossatura delle nazionali del '78 ed '82.

    easy to spot Nesta in the compilation, most elegance and class :D Cannavaro was flashy and more famous for a while, but Nesta was more reliable all the time. If you watch a compilation of his goals, you wonder why he wasn't an offensive midfielder. He just goes trough 4-5 players without a sweat, just to pass the ball at the end. And even more impressive that I can't remember ever seeing him lose a ball.

      KxngAnubis you’re right but the problem is with consistency. All these teams I’ve listed have legends in certain position across all of their generations. But teams like France, Netherlands, Argentina...etc have legends in certain positions at a certain time but not all the time. For example Netherlands like u said had great legends in midfield and attack like Cruyff, Kluivert, Frank Ricard but now there are no big names.
