Defenders are the most important players on the field!! Defenders are not only important to keep the ball away from the goal, no the playmaking starts in the back!! That's why hummels and boateng were so important for germany, they had an absolute mad playmaking ability. Just keep on defending even though you may not feel as appreciated as strikers, but without you the offensive players won't do shit.

I played sweeper. I always love that position. It was the formation and tactic my coach played. I would sit just off of the CRB and always be a meter or so behind him. It was my job to ‘hold the line’ verbally to my other 3 defenders. If I could anticipate a long ball coming over, it was my job to command them “FORWARD” and catch them out on the offside rule. Plus that being failed, being a meter behind the last line - I was able to be a step in front of the running attacker and be the last line of defence to my goalie. Scoring goals is great and all that, but to have 10 other men rely on you as there line of defence, your the last man and you side sweep tackle a running forward is one hell of a powerful feeling. Defending is like warfare on a peaceful scale
