he realizes he doesn't need to chuck 3's to be effective, finally play right to his all-star game: drive fast and hard to the rim.
Props to Russ for showing up against elite teams when Harden's being smothered by double team spams. This lineup is deadly, one of them will explode.

Rockets needed this. They can't just rely on Harden all the time. He's gonna get hounded up in late game situations and they needed a dangerous scorer, and they got exactly that. Westbrook turns out to be the right one for Houston.
The awkward moment when your trying to build around Harden, but end up building Westbrook' dream team.

Don't be surprised if they end up trading Harden if he chokes again this playoff. I would take Trey Young over Harden. He is a great shooter and most importantly, HE PASSES THE BALL!
The Capella trade made Westbrook take off but it has hurt Harden in my opinion. His lob to Capella was his change up set up. With Capela, Theis wouldn’t have been able to just park in that help position all night.
Imo Harden has to either shoot a few midrangers or Dantoni needs to play Harkenstein or Chandler on the floor with Harden only when Westbrook sits.

I said at the end of 2019, wait til both Russ and Harden start going for 30+ each. Teams will be afraid of one or the other and the one they ignore will take over. In this game they ignored Russ and he took over. Having Harden on the floor and no one clogging the lane is what has "unlocked" Westbrook. Harden can drop 40 on any night so he draws so much attention. Now that this team is getting momentum, teams have to pick their poison. I predicted a stretch of 30+ each for Harden and Westbrook, now I want to see them go for 40 each.

Mike D'antoni my favorite basketball coach(Kobe wore #8 because of him). This style like his previous Suns team will win alot of games. But I dunno if it can be sustained in the playoffs when the opponent makes adjustments and take away 1st, 2nd, and then 3rd options. I hope the team is healthy and has the chemistry with just enough defense to win coach D'antoni a championship.
well i mean you have two of the best 1v1 players in the league driving the offense so its pretty hard to just "take away" their options. Though this system is prone to internal failures as in, if russ and harden dont play at an elite level and go even a bit cold for a couple games in the playoffs, its clipped for them.
@@rafichowdhury8202 yes it might be hard but definently not impossible. Their 1v1 like u say but they have to play 5 on 5. Thats why Houston isn't undefeated lol. The opponent will make adjustments by double teaming, mixing up coverage, press defense etc.

Whereas Westbrook makes harden's life misery. incredibly difficult to be optimal when you have a defender sagging of Westbrook.

I saw the rockets play against the clippers near Christmas. Watching harden and Westbrook work together was a sight to see. They were scheming the entire game figuring out how to win that game. I was watching them during breaks, on the bench and whatnot. They are on the same page, make no mistake about it. They respect and like each other. They can think straight together. That has a ton of value when it comes to winning games in the playoffs. They eventually figured out how to win that game in LA.
I kept saying , Damn Russ should attack the basket every possession, he’s simply a battering ram.
I’ve been on and off the Russ bandwagon since he came into the league, and a couple seasons ago, especially after last season when they lost to the blazers, I thought i was off forever. But I loved this move to Houston. And watching Russ live in person, I don’t think I will ever jump off again.
I noticed between whistles and during breaks, how he would treat the coaches, teammates, but especially the refs, he gained a ton of respect from me that night.
He treats the refs with respect. That will go a long way in the playoffs if he’s gonna attack the basket the way he is. I came away saying man, Russ is a good dude.
I hope they make the finals and win it.

Nice to see that he's not forced to create his own shot so often since he's surrounded by good players and a coach that actually knows how to diversify the offense.

Yeah man I’ve been a fan of WestCoast for the majority of his career he’s always been a freakish athlete that plays basketball now he’s a basketball player he’s been my Favorite player for years now he was just so frustrating to watch like calm down slow down have More measured attacks to the basket I knew he would do well with the Rockets though he’s never had this kind of shooting around him but he’s also done the little things that I’ve been wishing he would do for years now he was getting these last year though tbh but he’s found the balance the control the feel for the game and he found his touch again from the free throw line I’m just so proud as a fan man

Westbrook playing like this is so, SO MUCH better. He's not chucking random shots like before, attacking the rim like a madman but in a more efficient way, and is overall a more team player than he was in Oklahoma. His move to Houston has been a saving grace for his career so far, and I'm loving it.
