I dont see why people are hating. The main reason I subscribed to rhis channel (besides her glowing personality) is because she watches movies a LOT of reactors aren't watching. And that makes me glad😊
SAME! 😊
It's not hate people can comment what they like. If her commentary was insensitive and low key ignorant she has to accept it. If everyone likes u then there is a problem. She isn't good at reacting to this sort of stuff and she is young but she isn't a bad person for it
@@hotfriedgriyoandpeeklees1522 "Good" at reacting? It's not about being good or bad at having a genuine reaction 🤣🤣
No matter how "nice" slave owners were sometimes. It makes me sick to my stomach that a human thinks they can own someone, beat, rape, disrespect another human being bc of the color of their skin. Its easy for me to say i wouldnt put up that...but i did not live in that time period and cant even imagine what i would do or not do. These movies make me sick to my stomach. But i think its important to know the history.
I seriously can't imagine how terrifying that would be. Waking up every morning and knowing that legally you're another person's property and at any time they can violate or kill you.
It nothing to do with race or colour of the skin it was mostly about money they raped n beat them because they have serious deep issues themselves it was African who sold their own people for money. White people have took white women as slaves killed their husbands n threw their babies over the castle walls these things was a regular thing before humans became civilised well kind of civilised things like this still happen today unfortunately
Yo, can yall leave MJ TF alone??? Like now I'm getting pissed off with the complaining, like she can react to whatever she wants it's HER CHANNEL!
Bro exactly, I always tell her to not worry about them
Word! Like... damn!
Idk why people got a problem with it she got good taste
People act like they don’t have jobs or probably wanna be with her and can’t 🤣🤣🤣
Man to all you weird mfs complaining about MJ if you have a problem with her then you have a problem with me leave this young lady alone yall too damn grown to be acting like this if you don't like her content then don't watch and start your own dam channel I mean yall some lonely pathetic individuals. Baby girl keep up the good work and forget these mfs.
Man, the power dynamics of the enslaved and owners being friendly is strange. The enslaved had to settle because they had nothing to fight back with. The owners treated the ones they liked as pets, not humans. It's crazy this happened.
Thank the Lord for Abraham Lincoln standing up to those racist Republ... erm, wait a second, it was the Democrats fighting for slavery in the Civil War??? WHAT!?
Fun fact: the republican party was started by black men.
The American of the South, having a Christian ethnic couldn't except the idea of owning another human being, so the rationale became, " these people aren't fully human." The complex dynamics of the cultural history of slavery and the result in one big island is displayed in the island split of Haiti and the DR. The Dominicans gradually dissolved slavery, while the Haitian threw it off in a Rebellion. Of course there were the Cultural influences of the Spanish in the DR and the French in Haiti that also effected their separate attitudes. Haiti's system was incredibly cruel, while the slavery structure in the DR was actually class driven, with actual inter marriage, not "cabin visits". So the Dominicans blended slavery out of existence, while the Haitians threw it off. Interesting Fact, the British were not the first to officially end slavery in the Western Hemisphere, but actually Mexico, by their Black President, Vicente Guerrero in 1829. The British like to brag on their false claim to be the first to end slavery, where even after their national end to slavery, they were huge supporters of the Confederacy. The system that supplied cotton, essential to their textile industry. In which they had entire families working on factory floors like "Slaves".
A lot of the songs that enslaved people sang were codes to share with each other about escaping. It's little stuff like that that makes me appreciate these movies...contrary to popular belief, there really aren't that many movies about slavery and there are still SO MANY stories of resilience and ingenuity to tell.
Hey MJ you said you were raised thinking you were black, let me tell you something you are Puerto Rican and Dominican right? Afro Latino Puerto Rican Dominican Cuban all those Caribbean islands are descendants of African black people. When the slave ships dropped slaves off they didn't just drop them off in America they dropped them off in Cuba Puerto Rico Dominican South America that's why is so many Brazilians dark-skinned my next door neighbor is from Panama and he's blacker than me. They even have black people in Mexico Google afro mexicans.
It's sad that this day and age that people don't know the did difference between race and ethnicity. It's even worse that descendants from Spanish speaking countries always deny their black heritage by saying "I'm Puerto Rican" or Dominican. That's like a black man from the USA saying he's not black, he's American. It makes no sense, they want to be everything but black, but you can't change your DNA. Just like there are different races in the USA, there are different races in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic too. Ignorance shouldn't be embraced.
Paul Mooney: y’all think y’all special because they dropped you off first
@@nayastuder5908unfortunately that’s how it goes as generations pass maybe her mother doesn’t truly know their ancestry. I feel like everybody should do an ancestry check just to see
I really wish us black people would stop trying to force the black identity on everyone. Most Africans Americans have European blood, but you don’t see Europeans trying to remind us that we have their blood. Cut it out. She was raised thinking she was black because in Latino culture, she’s considered black or “Afro Latina” due to colorism, but she’s indeed a Biracial Latina. The culture only glorifies white and mestizo(ingenious/white mixed) Latinos. Ingenious, biracial(black/white or black/ingenious) and black Latinos are made to feel undesirable. To make it simple. Latinos that look like Mario Lopez, Sofia Vergara, Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez are glorified in the culture, while Latinos that look like Cardi B, Amara Le Negra and George Lopez are made to feel less than. Also, someone being dark skinned doesn’t make them black because black people aren’t the only racial group with dark skin. Your average South East Indian is darker than you, but that doesn’t make them black lol.
I think she knows that and meant black as in African American, because the African American experience is different
The last slave movie I watched was Harriet last year. It was a good movie based on the heroic things that Harriet Tubman was able to do with the Underground Railroad. She went through more than I knew about growing up. But I remember watching this moive years ago.
After watching this film, another great film in the context of slavery is the Nat Turner story called The Birth of a Nation. Released in 2016.
singing for our black ancestors was healing and prayer was too but seeing the horrors of slavery hurts.
The comments (from MJ and viewers) just show how little we're taught about this period in American history. They didn't "just take it" There were over 250 uprisings that were documented. Its really important to educate ourselves about this period to understand how the legislation from this period has an effect on us today. (for example the electoral college) AND to differentiate between Black people's ACTUAL culture, and the remnants of trauma on ALL Americans. you can't treat your fellow human being this way and not be affected.
Facts 💯
Something to keep in mind is that it could be that she knows that & that she’s saying some of these things for rage bait purposes to increase the volume of views and comment engagement for her channel. At the end of the day, this is a public platform and as such has opened herself to critique the same as some of those who are brown nosing. In this social media stuff it’s not about the content but a matter of grabbing the views. It’s all fraud at the end of the day.
@@watitdufulbeautifully said!!!
Im not gone sugar coat it mama fuck these haters keep doing you luv ! They dont like your content then they shouldn't watch.
MJ, nobody knows what they would do in this situation. What I didn’t like about this movie is the notion that he was unlawfully enslaved. Nobody was lawfully enslaved. Oh by the way slavery was a terrorist system. The fight was beaten out of them. The fear of death was always present. But they never just resigned to the idea that they were God’s children and deserved their freedom.
I remember watching this movie along time ago it’s good love the video MJ stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way
First of all MJ I love your content, I'm just giving you some insight on the whole un-aliving part, that was all they had to look forward to. We can't imagine the pain and hurt they experienced back then. Death was a true comfort in comparison to hell they endured. Slavery has no means to make it look light. But unfortunately it was and is our history. Keep doing what your doing baby girl, been following you for a min and I appreciate your talent & eye. Stay genuine and be easy...

MJ WITHOUT SPIDER-MAN, i love you, you are great and you are very good at what you do. You are very intelligent for a young lady of your age and I will not dare critisize you for your opinion or amount of expertise on this difficult subject. I would however respecrfully challenge you to watch this movie again, after you either age about 20 years or learn a bit more about the true harshness of slave life. I say this because the term NICE MASTER, is a true oxymoron. GOD bless you.
I appreciate you saying this kindly since others could not.
Thanks for sharing your story at the beginning MJ.
Movies like this are great for educational purposes, especially for those who are unaware of historical tragedies. You watched this film in school, similar to how I watched Roots in elementary school. Both programs I’m sure can be instrumental in shaping someone’s grasp on the subject matter.
The owner had an investment. The overseer was just one step removed from the slave. They were harsher because only their skin color separated them from the enslaved people.
RIP MICHEAL K. WILLIAMS 🙏🕊 I FORGOT HE WAS ON THIS MOVIE
My first time watching this movie, I cried. My dad told me about the book as well, which I still want to read. This movie really opened my eyes as to what happened back then. It's definitely one of those movies that takes one watch and is very memorable.
This movie was filmed where I’m from (Cheneyville Louisiana)
This is a great movie! One of my favs! You should definitely read the book by Solomon Northup. It was written in 1853. He goes a lot more in depth when he was kidnapped. It's amazing book too! Great vid and stay blessed! 🙏🏽✊🏽❤

Damn right. They showed Roots back in 8th grade. We had a few white students in the class. After a week watching they were extra nice to us scared af! 😂 I told em it's all good you ain't do nothing to me!

I don’t think people “don’t like you” I think some of the things you comment can be considered “insensitive” to whatever the matter is rather than you as an overall person. The content is amazing just do a little more researching on certain things/topics because in general that’s how the internet works as far as negative comments.
Exactly. For example, she lost me at the part with the crying woman and her being told to essentially just shut up and stop whining.

thanks for being honest & watching interesting movies!
Awwwee, cutie!🤍🐑😉
GREAT REACTION!!! THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL MY EMOTIONS JUST SAD
Thanks for sitting through this again for your channel 😊 Yeah...this movie was wild and one of the few that didn't try to sugarcoat slavery to make certain people feel better about this country's REAL history. And yeah MJ, slaveowners absolutely used the bible to justify what they did, which is also why you might hear people constantly debate whether or not Black people should even believe in Christianity because of its use in slavery.
What was annoying AF, lol and almost made me hate Sarah Polson, was that the slaveowners' wives made themselves actually believe that female slaves wanted the "attention" they got from their husbands. How delusional do you have to be to run with that nonexistent narrative!?
M. J. First of all I love your channel, my first time commenting. I was really fascinated by the beginning of your video your story sounds really fascinating have you ever done any writing, or poetry specifically specifically in regards to your story I think people would be interested to hear it when you're ready . Anyway it's just a suggestion but I love your channel love your material that you post and I hope you have a great day
Wassup MJ I always enjoy your videos keep up the good work my friend 😊
Yea this one was hard to watch. I have a feeling that even if I lived back then, my protests would have been punishable by death.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience MJ. You're a rad chica, and I'm glad you figured out how to be your authentic self because there's a lot of people - of all races, creeds, and religions - who never grow out of what they feel they're expected to be like, or how they're raised to be, and are able to grow into their own person like you've been able to :]
Yeah, sex scenes are awkward. I appreciate when films are tasteful about it, they show everything leading up to and then leave the rest up to our imagination. It's just like showing if someone has to use the bathroom, show them making their way to, but we don't need to see them experiencing their relief in a bathroom stall, just like we don't need to see people having intercourse.
That’s what you took away from this? A sex scene?
Yessss I love this movie one of the most underrated films!❤
Love the reaction video you da truth
MJ Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
MJ, You picked a good one again
I’m curious to see your reaction but at the same time I have to prepare mentally before I do.
This was the hardest movie for me to watch and I had to do it alone to be in my own thoughts
It was extremely overwhelming! I cried like a baby, was pissed off, hurt etc..
But I’m grateful for the slaves who went through what they did so I didn’t have to. And I try to take advantage of the opportunities I have that they didn’t .
It’s definitely an impactful and profound movie. Loved your reaction. Keep goin’ MJ!! I rock with you the long way!! Bless up✊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💯
Hey MJ, I definitely love all your videos and i am not here to tell you who you are, but i am mixed race black and white and i definitely considered you black or mixed even though from what i know you are Puerto Rican. I personally dont think you should feel bad for thinking the way you did or using the word, you are a poc. like i said its about how YOU feel not us but yeah i think you are amazing, much love
Mj haters gonna hate don’t let them people steal your joy that’s nothing but the devil you know your the best and you got the greatest CZcams channel ever and you in great intentions

Leave MJ alone please stop hating on her this is her channel she can do what ever she wants to do with her channel period we will always be here for you MJ don’t worry about nothing we got you no doubt much love peace out ✌️ ❤❤❤❤
Another good reaction this is always a hard movie to watch but I was just reading the comments and it seems to be a lot of people that’s trying to come for you And I don’t know what the problem is because you have great reactions. No one is ever gonna see eye to eye on everything so if a person don’t like something that you say, they should talk to you in a respectful way instead of a negative one I personally think you should do, a Q&A and let people ask you questions because you said your mom raised you to think that you’re black but once you find out the truth, you changed yourself and it would be interesting to learn more about that
1. Hey! I actually found my name in this video, nice!
2. About the legality of slavery in the US, you just have to read the first part of the 13th amendment. It says that it's abolished EXCEPT as a form of punishment. Which technically means that it's still legal. At the same time there are some prisons that actually pay their prisoners. (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did a piece on that on his CZcams channel). It's a ridiculously low wage but at least they aren't doing the labor for free like in other places both inside and outside the US.
3. I heard that Benedict Cumberbatch's family did not want him using his real name when he became an actor because his family at one point did get rich from slavery in Barbados.
This is such a great film. It shows a lot of complexity you wouldn't expect to see in a film on this subject with a wide range of characters. Which it comes to the subject of slavery in America it's a must watch film. Similar to watching Schindler's List or The Pianist when it came to the subject of the Holoc**st. (and yes I had to censor that because youtube sometimes doesn't like that word being used)
I particularly like the drunk who betrayed Solomon. As it's similar to stories I've heard of war criminals who became heavy drinkers. Lets say the cruelty and violence they commit is haunting, and drinking is the only way to hide from it. It's likely why Fassbender's character is also a heavy drinker, and even tries to use religion to convince himself more than anyone else what he is doing is right. As I said they put quite a bit of complexity that I didn't expect to see in the film as a result. Yet he convinces no one else, not even his own wife who despises him in spite of her own cruelty.
I’m really proud of you, no matter whatever people say FUCK THEM, continue to do you and continue to BE YOU, continue to shine bright and prosper with your channel ❤
I think the movie antebellum would be a good watch
Plantation*** plantain is hilarious 😂 😂😂
I haven't been watching mj for that long but when I first seen a video of hers recommended to me I thought she was a lightskin black woman especially due to her features but her talking in the first 2 minutes shows me that I'm wrong lol. but if your puerto rican and dominican that means that you might have black relatives or a black ancestors. but idk I suggest maybe ask family members since you said your mother made you think you were black when she actually might have wanted you to identify with your black side in some way idk. anyways this was a great video much love and peace to you🫶🏽

At 24:31 You said the master was showing some “form of remorse and that’s worth something” …Wrong! That’s not worth anything!
Him showing remorse doesn’t mean he cared about Platt’s well being. Let’s be clear he was remorseful because his PROPERTY was damaged from the hanging! He may have been a more lenient slave owner but he was still a slave owner which makes him just as evil as the 2nd slave owner in the film!
actually, the northern states had 2 slave states. Lincoln freed the slaves of southern states which he had no control of but allowed slavery of the northern states. the war was about state rights, the population of the north was much higher and they could pass any laws they wanted. the Gettysburg address made the war about slavery. and the victor writes the history. i am against slavery but i studied this
You stated Lincoln allowed slavery of the northern states. Here’s my question? What were the two slave states? Slavery was outlawed in the North many years prior North prior to the Civil War.The saying that the war was about states rights included the right to own human beings which the South was dependent on. There were additional factors that led up to the Civil War but the main cause was the institution of slavery. You stated the North could pass any laws that they wanted. Here’s my question? What were the laws? What was the exact legislation ? Please cite your sources.
@anthonyburton5814 you really need to research, it is not my job to tech you. it is your job to learn. 4 states that didn't succeed immediately were Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland and Missouri. all slave states in the union. if slavery was outlawed in the north prior to the war. why was it not outlawed in the south before the war.
do you hear or understand what you say?
slavery was not abolished until the civil war and racism didn't go away until after 1960. please research and until then. quiet is best policy for unlearned
@@anthonyburton5814 i was mistaken, there were 4 states
and no lw was passed before the civil war to free slaves

If you ever get the chance to visit New Orleans, please go to Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana. Its a museum and memorial dedicated to the history and culture of the enslaved. New Orleans was the largest domestic slave trading port with 52 places for auctions and sales. They are slave dwellings still erect in the French Quarters. At the same time its the most African influenced city in the continental USA and the most northern Caribbean city.
I'm curious how she identifies. Half of my family is hispanic (Panamanian) but also Black. I know many people have difficulty distinguishing the differences between race and ethnicity.
im puerto rican and dominican
Hate to break it to you but , genetic wise you're black/afro latin like myself. I'm an immigrant from Belize and look like I'm damn near white in skin , but from my hair to my body shape I'm very black. Now you and me we're more mixed than American blacks but blood wise we're products of the same slave trade and colonialism. Check your history cause alot of us latins like to claim our European colonizers and try to raise our kids to be white and its sad we are taught to hate our black and native blood which is what makes us what we are. Speaking Spanish itself is a direct result of slavery. In conclusion you me and millions of others especially in central, the northern parts of South America, and all of the latin carribean islands, are decedents of african and native slaves.🙂
@@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMANI’m just black American! Stay proud of your ethnicity, race and heritage!
I know my history. Genetically, my ANCESTORS may be Afro Latino but I am not BLACK. Idc about the history. Me myself I = NOT BLACK.
@@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN just saying culturally we're not the same as American blacks but we are of the same shared history and our people needs to stop whitewashing each other and ignoring our full history. We are not white or fully black . It's just that alot of us like to hate or look down on each other that don't present themselves as white. Being black doesn't mean American. Which is what most people think of. Even pure Africans don't consider themselves black cause of that. Which is sad. Cultures are different and they can be very difficult to navigate just saying we as latin people in the americas shouldn't erase our african and native heritage is all I want to say.
