I've never even heard of gesture drawings! What fun! Your cats are just amazing (and why am I surprised?). Thanks for all the info too.

Catching up on my video viewing 😂. Oh, cool. Mom used to draw with charcoal. I like the super quick sketch and a few strokes for shadows. It reminds me a lot of the Chinese style brush paintings. Just a few strokes and you instantly recognize the subjects and get the feeling of the scene.

I have never done any of these but, it was so interesting to watch you. I used to draw in my notebook on the pages my daughters would mark up, they thought I was a real artist when they saw what their lines turned into. I haven’t done any drawing in a long time. I do doodles mostly now. I might need to hunt out my charcoal pencils.

I had a class in college college- live figure drawing . Our teacher had us doing 10 second gesture poses. And we were drawing with found objects like twigs & sea sponges dipped in ink. Talk about fast! But it was amazing how good you became at creating these after time… it also forced us to draw draw quickly. In the beginning many of us missed the whole first 10 seconds and ended up with a blank page.lol They were the best figurative work I ever did, and it totally improved my drawing skills.

Indeed I miss those college classes! I was really good at anything 2 min or less, and when I joined my current group decades later it took me about a year to get back to where I once was!

I'd never seen a box sharpener for charcoal and pastels - this is great! I have a wood-only sharpener that i inherited, but up until now used a sandpaper pad. Did you make or buy yours? I'd love to find one of my own. Love your gesture drawings - the kitties just come alive!
