Ever since "So", I've been a fan of Manu Katche'
Manu has always been one of the most unique, gifted, tasteful, musical, soulful, creative,energetic, technically masterful drummers I have ever heard.
Yes! Uniquely talented. Jon Christensen was one of my favs also. Sadly he passed a few years ago. Both these drummers played with Jan Garbarek. And both have a distinctive sound.

Beautiful!! Manu is the reason I still have my 1998 Yamaha beech custom kit! “Pear yellow” of course.

The best tom sounds I have ever heard!
I made the same comment several weeks ago. I keep coming back to this vid, those toms - wow! And the way he weaves those heavy tuneful bottoms with super fast, light splash cymbal sync is unique and totally awesome. One of a kind.
My favorite drummer - I always loved how he incorporated his splash cymbals in his work.
I had the thrill of seeing Manu Katche with Sylvian Luv and Richard Bona during the Montreal Jazz festival back in 2010, in a smallish theatre...maybe 400 people? It was truly a spiritual event.
Oh, I was there too !! :D The Gesù in Montreal ! I think Bona and Luc were out of this world. Katche, however, seemed to be a little out of his domain that night, like he was not able to get to Luc's and Bona's level.

Il fait partie des batteurs français les plus connus (avec Damien Schmitt).
Ses solos chantent, il est vraiment très mélodique, très agréable à écouter. Celui qui m'impressionne le plus en ce moment, c'est Nicolas Viccaro : je pense que c'est le meilleur actuellement. Je vous conseille de l'écouter : cocorico 🐓

I love the tom tuning, so low, even and round. Looks like he is running racks of 8x12, 9x13? Old school, more players these days go 7x10 and 8x12. Could be wrong, but amazing full tone.
I think they are 12,13,16, 14x5 and 22. I love the old school sizes also. I like tuning my toms low. Yamaha's sound awesome.

Er hat das interessanteste und bestklingendste Beckenspiel überhaupt.
Und obwohl er eine Supertechnik hat und immer überraschende und neuartige Lösungen parat hat, zeigt er stets, daß Technik nicht alles ist.
Man könnte unzählige Beispiele für seine Brillianz bringen.

He's a great player. Either the audio eq is not great or his toms are tuned a bit too low...He's still great!
All personal choice man. Some people like crunchy, lower tunings. I personally would tune them differently, but I also haven't played for Peter Gabriel and Sting, so....who cares haha XD
I love the tom sound, love it! They sound thunderous and organic, and both of us are right!
He's not just a drummer. He's also a painter! No one else will get that deep tribal sound of of the drums.

Great stuff from Manu yet again. I did some work for the Peter Gabriel tour in 1992 and listen to Manu's fills on this track (come talk to me) from the live sessions (czcams.com/video/T7GRBHoTUbg/video.html). His fills are mainly at 3:32 and 5:02 minutes in but the whole track is fab.
Dudes got floor toms for rack toms, haha.

would love it if those toms were a bit muted...too much resonance for my tastes, making the whole solo sound sloppy.....the reason why i love Dave weckl...can play better than god and also be better than god at the technical aspects and sound balancing of drumming. ONE COHESIVE UNIT
