  • The Passat has been a long standing sedan in the lineup at VW. This vehicle goes up against the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5. For 2022 there is a final limited edition. On the outside you will notice a Racing Green color hue, LED lighting, and unique wheels. On the inside of this midsize there is a spacious interior, leather steering wheel, and unque finishes. Under the hood is a 2.0 turbocharged inline-4 producing 174HP & mated to a 6-speed manual. Is it NOW or NEVER to BUY a NEW 2022 VW Passat Final Limited Edition?

      Hello Matt. Yes, the European version of the Passat is so beautiful. I thought that was the Passat we were getting here stateside. Such a disappointment it was when I realized we did not. Though, VW did completely restyle the latest version of the Passat we got here. Subtle changes, though, more than a mere facelift. the body lines along the side of the car, also a more rounded vehicle with that upper crease running the length of the car wrapping into the real tail light housings. Sadly, I was hoping for a lot more in that interior. However, after realizing that, it was clearly apparent that VW had no interest in the Passat competing against its rivals. Such a shame. The Passat had so much potential. They added the Arteon to their lineup; definite a beautiful car. However, extremely OVER priced.

    • @timothywood4972
      @timothywood4972 Pƙed 2 lety

      @Brian Lee- I really think VW has been struggling financially since the entire diesel situation occurred. I believe it cost VW upwards of 11.5 Billion world wide in legal fees, fines, law suits. The turbo Diesel engine was loved far and wide. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to experience that engines performance from behind the wheel. It was a torque monster, not surprising for a Diesel engine. I’ve long been a a VW man, and love all my German makes. However, VW’s prices have really exploded exponentially, it seems, since the diesel scandal. I think VW is most definitely trying to achieve a financial recapture of taking such a hit of over 11.5 billion in costs related to the scandal. As a result, all of their models have increased so high in price, they’re not as attainable as they once were. To add insult to injury, they’ve also did lots of cost cutting throughout their line of vehicles, with a lot of cheap materials in increasing area’s of the cabins of their cars. The Arteon a beautiful machine. How we, an average price of $40,000 is EXPENSIVE. Also the all new 2022 GTI, which I LOVE, is gorgeous. However, the cost of the current GTI is close to $40,000. That’s it, because there are no lower trim models on the GTI. And at that price point, VW also has done some cost cutting in the new GTI, which was always known, in recent years for its stupendous quality of materials and craftsmanship of its cabin.

      And pay $12-20K more for one. VW sedans just aren't competitive in the US. They don't get refreshed nearly as often as the Japanese and Korean brands and are generally more bland. The GTI is a good seller (the Golf is gone) and I guess the Jetta sells well enough but very few customers in the US have even heard of the Arteon because VW didn't advertise it. In 2018 and 2019 VW increased the standard warranty on all VWs to 6 years/72K miles in the aftermath of the "dieselgate scandal". That disappeared in 2020 which I think was a big mistake for VW.

    Thanks about probably the last review about the Volkswagen Passat and for the review yesterday about the Toyota Tundra.
    Anyways I forgot that the Volkswagen Passat was going to be discontinued (but I heard that it would still be offer only as a station wagon or "estate" in Europe), but the green color is very nice.
    But a good *thing* (that was actually the name of a older VW model), is that some touches are similar to Audi, like the side view (abit similar to Toyota) or the brown leather and the wood is very audi, but besides that the rims looks really nice and Volkswagen make some of the best grills in the game and that green has become really popular for newer vehicles because it's a nice color.
    But if you had to choose what is your favorite mid-size sedan (Joe probably would say the Dodge Charger, but tell me what is yours?)
    (Now personally I'll choose the Volkswagen Arteon over the Passat, but that's just me)

    VW Europe recently announced that they have now finished making the current Passat there too. There will be a new European model but not until MY2024 but it will be a heavily refreshed current model rather than new from the ground up. Sales of these type cars here in Europe have decreased dramatically in the last decade as people buy more crossover SUVs than sedans. I think the main reason North America never got the European Passat was because production costs were too high for the price point it would have to compete with in North America.

    I'm not a VW fan by the way and specially the Passat in my opinion is one of the most poring German sedans. But this one though .. looks good. only one thing I don't understand why aren't they doing it .. Imagine Just Imagine all that silver poring Chrome . on that green is Dark Copper color Chrome đŸ‘đŸœđŸ‘đŸœđŸ‘đŸœđŸ‘đŸœđŸ‘đŸœ or just Dark Black Chrome trust me it will change the entire look of this Vehicle to True special edition not just for them saying it actually doing it .. anyway Raitis Ride I always enjoy watching your reviews. Thank you man .. Toyota Camry XSE is defiantly my first choice no question because Relibitly is very very important to me plus looks better OR Avalon for that matter built solid like a Tank ..

    I got a 2018 passat sel premium with vr6 engine last year with only 15k miles for only $19k. Couldn't be happier with it. Definitely a bargain. Cant say I would've gotten it if it was a 4cyl. If I ever replace I'd definitely want to upgrade to a 6cyl A6.

    Also there is no “possible” 8inch multimedia screen on the Passat the limited is the highest trim and because it’s so old, the 6.5” is the biggest screen.

    Had a chance to drive on for a few days when I rented it from Enterprise on a trip. It's a comfortable ride, very lackluster. I've been in an slightly older Jetta where the center stack was angled towards the driver. They really should have done that to this car....all cars should have that

    Passat used to be my all time favorite body style of car. it was the epitome of a refined yet simple body style that also wasn't trying too hard. so low profile and classy. they ruined the grill on the newest facelift. they could have just given the car more power and it would've sold just fine. tragic.

    I think VW was trying to incorporate the classics into their their last model year. To be honest, I’m a fan of the simplicity of the technological aspects of cars. Cars are made for driving, and depending on the style of the car that’s where you be getting the most demographic of people. I also think that VW was trying to target their older demographic, to just remember the earlier models

    It’s a shame that VW is canceling the Passat. As a former owner, I had a 2003 Passat Blue with the Gray Leather & Moonroof. It was an amazing car. I loved it when it had the Piston Rods on the Engine Hood & the Trunk. You had much more room. I’m not sure if I had the rod to hold the hood open or not. I believe it was just the piston’s as I call them. The bean counter’s at VW decided to drop them. The problem that I had with VW was the maintenance was expensive. The gas was premium because it was a Turbo 2 liter. It used to come with an optional 6 cylinder & AWD. However, VW dropped it. For a brief period of time the car was optional with the AWD. The following year it was cancelled. Their AWD system is 4 Motion which is about the best on the market. Since I live in a snow belt region it would have been perfect for me. However, the pricing was through the roof for the 6 with 4 Motion. The 6 was regular unleaded gas too. Gas was cheap at that time either. Eventually, it dropped. It was a 5 or 6 speed then. My car came equipped with Fog lights. I was extremely grateful to have them. I used them constantly. I really did use them on foggy nights. It truly helped during deer season. I could spot them so I didn’t hit them nor have them jump in front of my car. Trust me, I’ve seen the damage they can do. VW had exceptional Fog Lamps at that time. Their heated seats had 3 heated settings. The seats heated fast. You would have to be careful. They could burn your butt. I’d rather that then freeze. There cooled seats were awesome too. VW was ahead of its time when it came to safety. They used to give you more for your money as well. Once the bean counter’s got involved. That all changed. I all had a 1999 Green VW Jetta that had the Saddle Leather Seats. It had a Moonroof & heated seats. That car was amazing in snow & ice. I had that car for 5 year’s. I wasn’t crazy about the interior color. It too was the best car I had ever owned. It was an Automatic Transmission. It was really fun to drive. The Jetta also came with a V6 engine too. VW dropped it. It too had the piston’s. Those were usually featured on high end vehicles. One of the special features with the car was it had white lenses over the turn signals instead of amber. I didn’t know it. Until someone pointed it out. It took regular gas. It could have used a 6th gear for the transmission. It was an automatic. Never had any mechanical problems with the car. Many people had problems with the car’s. For a time, they were the best car to own.
