For those of you who didn't understand Daigo's lack of miracles in that match, it was due to Infiltration punishing hadoken. Daigo usually tries to get the opponent to tries to chip/force the opponent to jump with fireball. Infiltration began the match establishing that he will punish Hadoken everytime
man..i was watching this on stream and i was just like: "noooo daigo stop throwing fireballs at that range!!" Infiltration was clearly prepared for this match 140% and he showed, but daigo just seemed like he couldn't adapt, at least not until like 3rd round. By that time it seemed like daigo was getting the hang of it but it was already too late, infiltration cleanly outplayed him. I'm always rooting for daigo but goddamn infiltration played perfectly, major respect.
2:46 This mindgame is one of the most impressive I've ever seen. Empty jump LK to wiff the low HK of Infiltration and punish him with low HK, but Infiltration have seen the phase and cancel to Ultra his low HK. *Mindblow* *o*
This is the best Gouki play I have ever seen. This is how destructive and versatile this character is when mastered at the highest level. So crazy, there is nothing daigo or any top player could do to infiltration. What a boss, def deserved to win.
Well said. Considering Daigo's case, EVERYBODY whose willing to go the distance will study Daigo's play since everyone expects to see him on top 8. This match is just proof of that, and this time it was effective as hell.
The key thing that beat daigo was infiltration's use of FADCing through his low forward hadouken. He used that manoeuvre a lot of times to get in and deal great damage. After the first couple of times Daigo should have adapted. He should have started using low forward tatsu to break infiltrations focus attack. Perhaps the match would have been quite different if Daigo did this.
True, he may not be on Daigo's level - but he definitely proved himself as an opponent to seriously respect. He not only beat one of the most recognizably great players of the game, he also went on to win the entire tournament. As for over-excited... well yeah honestly, if you had beaten one of the best in the business (a man who you probably idolize yourself) - the feeling of justifying all the time and effort you spent being good at this game WOULD make you feel really good about yourself.
I agree. I mean Daigo isn't used to having people go straight at him. When he played Poongko last year and Infiltration this year, there key difference, which you can see here, is Infiltration didn't do any defense except to throw him off of his offense. He went full out each time which is completely counter to all of Daigo's mind games.
you should, and although it has a steep learning curve and nowadays most people you;ll find online are pretty good, its still very rewarding to being good at it. And also, you;ll appreciate Big tournaments like EVo even more. Who knows, you might be the next Daigo!'
You're wrong. Daigo just became very popular because he flew in from Japan and started owning the american players. There were numerous great players before him but they were not known for example, people in Korea. For infiltration to make his appearance and win is great for his exposure
Unbelievable, Infiltration won 4 rounds to 0 vs Daigo. How many Daigo replays must he have watched in the run-up to this game......he read him like a book.
I want to express my opinion about this fight. Even though Daigo was DESTROYED, he's still one of the best players. As top commenter said, he made these events enjoyable, because of his skills. That forced other players to practice to improve their level. I'm happy to see the impact this game had around the world and how the community around it is growing every day. Have a nice day :)
Did you read my comment well? I said that Mago, Fuudo, Kazunoko, Sako, etc were all top dogs at one time. After that brief spotlight, they fall down pretty hard. And there seems to be new players that seem to rise all the time. Right now its Infiltration. Having said that, there is only one player who has been at the top more than once, but has never fallen down hard, in fact he has always remained a huge threat (proven by being in top 8 at just about every SF4 tourney). His name is Daigo.
Also, in regards to how Infiltration played throughout all of Evo 2012 and regards to his play lately in general. I must say that I have never seen a Street Fighter player be more masterful and dominant in a game since Kuroda in 3rd Strike and that if Infiltration keeps this up(which is very likely to happen) that he will easily be winning many Evos for years to come and he is pants shittingly insanely good. Bravo Infiltration, you earned every moment of this years Evo 2012 victory.
Now there are no excuses like last year that daigo didn't know the matchup against seth etc. He knows this matchup really well and still lost. it's not often you see daigo this free. Infiltration is awesome
Mago was arguably even against Daigo in vanilla with wins over him in Japanese tournaments. Fuudo also had a fantastic record against Daigo in casuals, even beating him in a major European tournament. Infiltration has been top 3 in Evo before too. The competition has stepped up. I really don't believe Daigo has been the best overall since the first year or so.
It not about the one time result- Daigo's consistency is still a sign that he's the best. You cant win them all, and you'll see many others loses catch up to them just like it does with everyone. If not doing well is finishing 5th or better in the last 4 years, then we should all be that lucky. Including Infiltration, Fuudo, JWong etc...
it could be. He's the man to be beaten in any competition. I bet a lot of players went on youtube and studied his gameplay. Maybe infil did that as well.
I think anyone trying to take anything away from Infiltration after his performance at Evo not just against Daigo but in all of his matches, is only showing their own inexperience or shallow interests. Anyone who is a fan of Street Fighter should be able to appreciate how sick Infiltration was.
Infiltration totally had Daigo's number here you could see with the focus-absorbs on Daigo's fireballs. At the same time i disagree with people who say the real Daigo didn't show up. For a start he lost to the no.1 player there (who made a lot of the top players look bad) and he (Daigo) finished top 5 i think. No player can turn up to Evo and expect to win it, there is also luck involved in any kind of tournament.
For your information, not only has Infiltration been playing this game since it came out but he has been on the FG scene for a long time now. He has just finally reached his peak in this game. In fact, he has never been able to defeat Daigo in a tourney till now. And as for Infiltration winning next year, its a very loong shot. I doubt he will even make top 8. Daigo is almost guaranteed to make it though, as history proves it.
Daigo the the greatest to ever play, Infiltration is looking to take that title away. Don't hate on anyone, Infiltration came to win. I'm just blown away at his dominance...nobody should be able to play Daigo like that.
Yeah, he made the demon look scarier than I've ever seen it, he wasn't letting anything go by unpunished. And if I were Daigo, I'd be having nightmares of people focus dashing through my fireballs!
Infiltration didn't have headphones either... AND daigo had his headphones on while infiltration didn't in 25th Anniversary, and Daigo got 6-0'ed by infiltration. Case closed.
Before the match begin, Infiltration spends a lot of time studying Daigo's playing style and movement. Himself during the interview also said that he was watching Daigo's replay and trying to find all the counter point. Since Infiltration deeply predict Daigo's moves, it would be nearly impossible for him to land any H-DP, since they took out the FC on H-DP.
The problem with Daigo's Ryu is that it has been seen a lot already. Infiltration had cooked an anti-Ryu strategy that paid big time. Also, Daigo did not adjust at all. Probably was too much to ask in so short time.
daigo is not bored with the fgc, he is just past his prime hes not the best anymore..while he had his moments that was in the past. the world has finally caught up to the skill of the japanese players you just have to accept it.
In fact if you look at the match closely that's is where Infiltration gets most of his damage. In a longer set Daigo would have caught on and adapted as seen in the last round but due to the short set Daigo couldn't adapt in time. Good stuff Infiltration! Evo Champ! I feel like I was the only one rooting for him to come on top! SO glad he won ^_^!
And also I just have to say that any of the candidates who got top 3-4 at Evo would have been good calls to win. Infiltration playing out of his mind at Evo? Maybe, but what a better place to do it, no? It had also been clear/evident in sets at other American tournaments leading up to Evo that Infiltration was significantly improving his SF4 gameplay(probably in preparation). All the while still asserting his SFxT dominance, something that many other players weren't worried as much about doing.
Yeah I know. Anything can happen in tournaments. Infiltration came up on top this time full respect to him. But try to have those two play a best to 10 set I still put my money on the beast!!
I'm really happy and proud for the players that won, but AE finals lacked the back and forth between the players, those moments where you don't really know who's gonna take the match. Infiltration dominating like that shows how skilled he is, but he didn't give us that chance to get on the edge of our seats.
I'm not saying that Infiltration isn't a good player because he is, but the reason he won was because he studied the way Daigo plays and came up with a good strategy to beat him. BTW ask any Japanese player who they think are the best Street Fighter players and Daigo will definately be mentioned as one. He also had the highest win rate in vanilla SF4 but now people just know Ryu too well and he's not high tier anymore.
I wonder why Daigo doesn't use a switch character? It worked out pretty well for him in the 2010 Canada Cup. He has a good Akuma despite how conservative he plays with him. I would have liked to have seen him try a mirror match or switch to Guile or Yun when he got bodied in the first match. I think Infiltration had solid strategy against Daigo's Ryu.
Infiltration countered Daigo's fireball game by using Focus Cancels into dash forward and combo. Without the ability to throw out fireballs at medium range Daigo was effectively forced to play a grounded jab game where he lost miserably to Infiltration's footsies. Finally Daigo's desperation began to show as he began throwing out random uppercuts in the hopes of getting his EX cancel to Ultra out which led to his downfall.
@iYorKeY i couldnt agree with you more. i wouldnt doubt he studied him because if you watch any daigo video with ryu, he always wiff punishes with sweep. even tokido blew him up a sweep from daigo with the same "wiff" sweep into demon.
your right about what you said; but ppl will always hate the truth when they cant eat the arse out if it. many ppl look for others to have faith in when they dont have any for themselves. dont let them change you!
Daigo is mostly famous for that full parry against Justin Wong and some other insane dramactic comebacks, but overall counting all his wins and loses he may not be the all time best, he is without a doubt the most iconic player of them all
aye kid. open your damn eyes. he was the biggest threat this year especially since he returned to using Ryu, they all took notes on him. DirtyHeartbeat couldn't have said it better, to anyone at EVO. beating Daigo is enough of a victory
not doing well? Daigo's been top 8 consistently since SSF4 came out. No other player has. Fuudo, Latiff (who Daigo beat) and poongko all finished behind Daigo this year. Where will Infiltration end up next year?
I went nuts when I saw this live, every hadoken Daigo threw were countered, I can only imagine how many hours Infiltration spent watching Daigo's matches, he's in Diago's head
the only time he would not be good anymore is if he can't be bothered to be a gamer anymore. He has won tournaments back to back. Dreamhack he retained his title. I would bet on Infiltration next year evo if he goes again. He is one talent that is better than the japanese cos he can use multiple characters all at tournament level, whoever you pick he will counter pick you. Sanford says it well. All the characters he mains are counter picks or top tier he is one talented and clever dude.
Infiltration neutralized Daigo's footsies and fireballs, and in that moment it was done. Daigo tried to keep playing the same way, but it didn't work. Infiltration deserved the victory, his performance was simply amazing in every match and I really enjoyed those ultras. And for Daigo, he's still one of the best in the world. Where are Latif, Fuudo, Mago, Tokido, etc? He is always in top 5 among hundreds of excelent players.
In the ae2012 version the fierce srk was changed to only 1 hit and cant be FADC'd so you cant make it safe or use it to combo into ultra... but they also gave it a damage buff to balance that...im pretty sure its not char specific either but im not positive
That's gonna be Infiltrations problem next year I think. The games from all contenders all weekend were great, APART from when Infiltration was involved. Guy tore through everyone. Surprise canings like that don't happen twice in a row lol. Everyone is gonna become soooo much more respectful of the Raging Demon after this.
Oh ok, but I went into training mode w/ Ryu and used Dan as the dummy and when I was pressing Fierce shoryu (and I made sure it was fierce because I was also surprised and tried it multiple times) it hit as a two hit combo, I knew I wasn't pressing Strong because it showed the "white stripe thing" that comes when you do a Fierce Shoryu. Could it have been a glitch??
This happens when you play Ryu. Have you seen the results of Evo every year since SF4's inception and seen that John Choi places in the top 25 every year? The guy doesn't even touch the game ever but can beat Mike Ross and go toe to toe with Ricky Ortiz. I attribute it to playing the same character and said character always has some type of options and is good in some way when he's not in a game where he's not overshadowed(3S).
In my opinion of course Infiltration deserved to win this EVO, by the way I also think that the way the EVO is organized cannot let show the real skills of the players, I mean, two matches out of three it's far too short to decide who is the most skilled to get the win. I think the godsgarden style it's much more fair for the players
a best of 3 in this case means at least 6 matches and Infiltration's performance in these sets was pretty dominating besides it's always difficult to find out who's really better in a high level match. Sometimes your reads are accurate sometimes they're not. So while not objectively correct it's pretty safe to say that the winner in a few sets in a major tournament is a better player.
It's like infiltration could read his mind. Once I fought a random dude online and It's like he was inside my head. I couldn't adapt to his style either as he always predicting my moves. I think that's what happened to diago there.
Beating Daigo with raging demon would be something you'd tell your grand kids about
one of the best memorable sf matches ever
Yeah, this was great. Infiltration was unstoppable in 2012!
miss that year, imho infiltration is the best
AiirBandit though its end is tragic...he could have used ultra and ryu was surely dead.
For those of you who didn't understand Daigo's lack of miracles in that match, it was due to Infiltration punishing hadoken. The simultaneous uppercut was pretty epic. :D
3:12 double shoryuken holy shit
2:46 This mindgame is one of the most impressive I've ever seen. Empty jump LK to wiff the low HK of Infiltration and punish him with low HK, but Infiltration have seen the phase and cancel to Ultra his low HK.
*Mindblow* *o*
Daigo, the novel, as read by Infiltration.
Infiltration maior jogador de sf de todos os tempos
This is the best Gouki play I have ever seen. This is how destructive and versatile this character is when mastered at the highest level. So crazy, there is nothing daigo or any top player could do to infiltration. What a boss, def deserved to win.
Whatever Daigo tried to do, Infiltration was right on top of it, impressive/relentless performance by this Akuma.
Well said. Considering Daigo's case, EVERYBODY whose willing to go the distance will study Daigo's play since everyone expects to see him on top 8. This match is just proof of that, and this time it was effective as hell.

Damn Infiltration was plugged into Daigo's mind like Psycho Mantis. Amazing!
daigo "the beast"
infiltration " the fucking demon"
True, he may not be on Daigo's level - but he definitely proved himself as an opponent to seriously respect. He not only beat one of the most recognizably great players of the game, he also went on to win the entire tournament.

One of my favorite vids of all times.
I can watch it again and again.
I agree. I mean Daigo isn't used to having people go straight at him. Totally agreed. People need Daigo to be great. Daigo don't need THEM!
infiltration put in the work over the years getting demolished by diago in the past...he deserved his retribution
Mago was arguably even against Daigo in vanilla with wins over him in Japanese tournaments. Daigo is a legend even if he never won again, just like Pele and Maradona
LOL, I forgot about that.
OK then, I have never seen Daigo's RYU (SFIV interations, no ST) get bodied so hard by anybody.
infiltration without a doubt was beastin on daigo and showing his true skills here
3:15
WOOOOOW UPPERCUT BONANZAAAA
agreed, let's not forget daigo not only knows akuma, he played akuma at some point as well.
Daigo the the greatest to ever play, Infiltration is looking to take that title away. Don't hate on anyone, Infiltration came to win. I'm just blown away at his dominance...nobody should be able to play Daigo like that.
It's just like sports. People have their times of reign and people learn how to beat it. Simple as that
he should have worn his headphones...
Yeah, he made the demon look scarier than I've ever seen it, he wasn't letting anything go by unpunished. And if I were Daigo, I'd be having nightmares of people focus dashing through my fireballs!
Wow, Daigo looked so free in this match.
Ladies and gentlemen, the motherfucking Infiltration factor. He was just UNSTOPPABLE last night. This is who you gotta beat now.
WHAT!!! I didn't know Akuma could cancel his overhead to a Raging Demon WOW!!!
Daigo is the best. People are just now catching up to him.
Infiltration didn't have headphones either... AND daigo had his headphones on while infiltration didn't in 25th Anniversary, and Daigo got 6-0'ed by infiltration. Case closed.
Daigo's not washed up. Everyone else has just leveled up so much. This isn't 2009 anymore where only the japanese were putting in hours of practice.
Before the match begin, Infiltration spends a lot of time studying Daigo's playing style and movement. Himself during the interview also said that he was watching Daigo's replay and trying to find all the counter point. Since Infiltration deeply predict Daigo's moves, it would be nearly impossible for him to land any H-DP, since they took out the FC on H-DP.
it's true daigo's fame is a disadvantage... shows how kickass he is! if everybody studies to beat him.. he's like the metaknight of street fighter!
The problem with Daigo's Ryu is that it has been seen a lot already. Infiltration had cooked an anti-Ryu strategy that paid big time. Also, Daigo did not adjust at all. Probably was too much to ask in so short time.
That would be so amazing to watch.
daigo is not bored with the fgc, he is just past his prime hes not the best anymore..while he had his moments that was in the past. the world has finally caught up to the skill of the japanese players you just have to accept it.
Forsure, man. It would've been fun to have another comeback. Infiltration's clutch ultras were pretty awesome to see though!
Win or lose Daigo's face does not change!!!
And here we are, 5 months later, and Infiltration bodied Daigo 6-0 in SF25th anniversary finals.
And then what happened
I've not seen that from that point of view. Respect man ;)
I'm not saying that Infiltration isn't a good player because he is, but the reason he won was because he studied the way Daigo plays and came up with a good strategy to beat him.
I completely agree with that! Well said.
That was back during the AE days when Yun was the best character in the game. 21/32 of EVO 2011 top 32 were Fei Long/Yun players.
Infiltration countered Daigo's fireball game by using Focus Cancels into dash forward and combo. Without the ability to throw out fireballs at medium range Daigo was effectively forced to play a grounded jab game where he lost miserably to Infiltration's footsies. Finally Daigo's desperation began to show as he began throwing out random uppercuts in the hopes of getting his EX cancel to Ultra out which led to his downfall.

have nothing but respect for those two.
Seth Killian is a godlike commentator.
Akuma got buffed in 2012? Can you list those said buffs? From what I know, he got nerfed.
I like how he said "The Beast" during the Infiltration hype moment. It shows you that he associates that name with hype.
holy shit... have never seen daigo this dominated before... well this and poongko vs daigo
Ur right! was latif even at evo? I enjoy watchin him.
he still finished in the top 8 the last two years after finished 1st the previous two years
Good match... Gratz to Infiltration
Yep, you're right. I heard he was practicing anti-Ryu tech for weeks before EVO.
not doing well? Daigo's been top 8 consistently since SSF4 came out. No other player has. Fuudo, Latiff (who Daigo beat) and poongko all finished behind Daigo this year. Where will Infiltration end up next year?
I thought the same, but was more accurate and that made him win the fight
I went nuts when I saw this live, every hadoken Daigo threw were countered, I can only imagine how many hours Infiltration spent watching Daigo's matches, he's in Diago's head
Lol I love team Japan in the background going "HIYAAA," every time Daigo hits anything.
Check the settings to make sure your using the 2012 update...if thats not it then im not sure what it could be.
the only time he would not be good anymore is if he can't be bothered to be a gamer anymore. He has won tournaments back to back. Dreamhack he retained his title. Infiltration just shown tokido how to land raging demon in top 8.....he landed 4-6 U1/super in like 4 or 5 matches....sick
cant believe how good tokido is now. wow
I think the godsgarden style it's much more fair for the players
daigo was visibly shaken at the end of this match lol......the fall of the japanese gods and the rise of the korean overlords ! all hail!
man diago the legend but infiltration is the new beast in this match...demon back wins!!!
Tokido entered the hyperbolic time chamber with a cpu that plays like daigo.
a best of 3 in this case means at least 6 matches and Infiltration's performance in these sets was pretty dominating besides it's always difficult to find out who's really better in a high level match.
I know he is but he was helpless considering his experience with this matchup I didnt expect that
He didn't study Daigo only he was prepared to beat every top player. Check out the salty suite matches he made everyone look free there too
