    Hi everyone, after installing the lsd into the car i have two things to say! It is not suited for drifting at all however it transfers power to the other wheel where u need it most! Plus Since you are gonna break axles if you dump the clutch at 6000 rpm the lsd will somehow get you home low speed and in flat grounds! Trying to do a burnout is a struggle because it acts very weird!

    When I try hammering the pin in, the internal retaining clip keeps getting sheared off, with the shards going inside of the spider gears. I wrecked the stock one and my only replacement from my old diff. Seems the pin has a chamfer to expand the ring as you hammer it in, but mine has a small hard edge that keeps snagging on the ring. I think my pin must have been machined incorrectly, since the chamfer doesn't go all the way down to the shaft. Anyone else who is doing this, pay attention to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to you.

    @RacingDiffs I'm trying to gather all the needed bits and pieces of knowledge to rebuild my 188k diff and I find your videos highly valuable, but there is one thing that's worrying me. Isn't the preload on carrier bearings long gone if the second c-clip can be inserted so easily? I would expect that to have around 0,5 - 1Nm of preload on tapered roller bearings, the axial force to be applied is in 10 kN(1000kg) ballpark, requiring hydraulic press to preload outer bearing races to make c-clip installation possible. Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @RacingDiffs
      @RacingDiffs  Před 2 lety +3

      Not necessarily. We rebuilt many, many diffs with C clip type of preload adjustment and you always sort it with a hammer. You're right about the carrier preload though, 0.5-1 Nm. But if you are rebuilding diff, not swapping anything new, you shouldn't worry about that at all. Just return C clips in original positions and that's it. Bearings are made in 0.001 mm tolerance so when you change them, preload and backlash adjustment is not necessary.

    • @bogdandabrowski2837

      But how would you fitt e36 LSD into E46? You have animation video on our channel.👍🏼

    • @MadRS
      @MadRS Před 4 lety

      The way it works is when 1 tyre tries to spin faster than the other tyre the black block in the centre tries to turn. Because the pin goes through the block it causes the clutch faces to be pushed hard into the spider gears thus having a locking force that increases with tyre slip. That is how the ramp action works. I think these would work very well on track but I would be worried about the life of the clutch packs just like other friction/clutch pack LSD's. Considering it is a fairly easy job (I have heard that the ring gears for diffs in manual cars need to be cut off the centre though) to disassemble the diff it would just be another maintenance job.
