    I bought Specialized 2020 Vado 3.0 which has Brose 1.2. This is my 2nd ebike. I am 74 years old and this motor handles our CT hills easily. Extremely quiet and smooth. I would characterize the Brose as civilized. Highly recommend.

    Excellent, the right amount of detail for an overview and comparison to other drives. Keep it up!

    Having seen some reviews of these, I am impressed what can be done and how smooth they appear.
    They are in top end bikes. Would it make sense to show how they differ from the drive that dominates the low end and DIY mid drives?
    They are frequently using torque sensors and this may show how cadence sensing system differs, and the push for raw power affects the ballance.

    Metal to metal friction is much much lower than metal on rubber. Think train wheels vs car and truck tires. While the belt is quiet, the chain is much more efficient

    I would like to know how the increase in torque @ 120 nm over some @ 70-75 nm transfers to the hill climbing ability. And what bikes use this motor.

    • @BlueMonkeyBicycles
      @BlueMonkeyBicycles  Před 5 lety +2

      The perception of power is difficult to express in text. Personally, I like some of the ~75nm motors over the 120nm ones I've seen out there.
      Lots of bikes use brose motors, too many to remember or list.

    Ive had 5 motor swaps on my 2020 S-works! Yes 5!! My local dealer has been great trying to sort out issues and swap motors for me. But trying to get in touch with Specialized and getting an answer why this hapens time and again is like geting blood out of a stone. Youd think you spend over 1000 punds on a bike youd get some customer service. Id stay away from Brose until they sort it out!

    Love the Brose in my Atom X Lynx 6.... strongest , quietest bike I’ve ridden..... and when you get over 20 mph, it gently disconnects and your not pulling the motor.

    • @Michael-wn4jj
      @Michael-wn4jj Před 4 lety +2

      I ride a Brose. It says Belt replacement is recommand each 15000 to 20000 km. Either your bicycle shop can order a Brose replacement kit about 80€ or they need to send in the motor to a certified dealer. Most critical at that service is to tighten new belt using a 0.25 Nm tool. Doing wrong here will defenetly shorten belt lifetime, causing noises or at worst damage motor.

    I really want to have a pinion gearbox and a midrive motor without it effecting the rear suspension and use a belt drive pinion and brose should work together and make it into one unit little a motorcycle motor with six gears with a wide ratio.. no one really cares about cadence on a ebike so the gears doesn't need to be that close together... I'm using a specialized Turbo LEVO and I always skip gears gearing two or three gears at the time most of the time,, I kinda want to design my own bike or use the old Honda downhill bike because it has a gear box and a double bottomed frame so it would fit very nicely,,, it's just that money issue

  • @Threadexpress
    @Threadexpress Před 6 lety +1

    Mike a belt drive is usually quieter and smoother than a gear drive, I agree. But you also said it mitigates friction. Actually usually a belt drive has greater friction transmission losses than a gear drive. A belt drive sacrifices more power and therefore performance or battery life than a spur gear drive, ( in principle anyway, all other things being equal..but we may only talking a few %.) There is on balance (including matching ratio for ratio) more power loss through a toothed belt rubber load transfer than a well designed lubricated spur gears rolling friction. Perhaps you meant mitigates vibration losses?. Cheers Cliff

      @TheWebstaff Před 6 lety

      yes put simply.. most efficient is a chain reduction system

    • @picopicolomini1607
      @picopicolomini1607 Před 6 lety

      Dave Webster could you using the rule of thumb give a guess by how much efficiency loss that might be? I would balance this against the almost silent ride.

    • @BlockCylinder
      @BlockCylinder Před 6 lety +2

      +Threadexpress when Brose talks about reduced friction I think they mean between internal component surfaces, not drive efficiency. Nylon gears (used in lots of geared hub motors and mid drives at all quality levels) are louder and more prone to wear than gearless hub motors due to friction between the interlocking gears. They also have many advantages over gearless motors, and the good ones are designed so replacing gears every 3-5 years is not too big a deal.
      +Dave Webster and +Pico Picolomini - The practical difference in efficiency between various high-end mid drives is very small. Time spent worrying about drive efficiency might be better spent looking at larger capacity batteries or being more conscious of your gear selections when starting or climbing.

    • @goldcountrystorage
      @goldcountrystorage Před 4 lety

      @@picopicolomini1607 I agree with Pico, what small friction is lost, is made up for with smoothness, drivetrain shock absorption, quiet ride....

    The Conveyor and the Luna Apex share the luxury business model. You get margins by making something with a lot of refinements. I doubt anyone will test the two bikes, side by side. With the small battery pack on the Apex, same price. They aren't mainstream products.
    I keep looking at the evolution of the Juiced lineup. He has the Cross Current S with the torque sensor and legal power. It is a geared hub. That is very basic. No one really says how good that $100 Bafang motor is, and what the limitations might be. I believe some of the Baffo hubs are lift out and replace, a swap inside the case, which could be a huge advantage.
    I drove across St. George last week. It's a huge place, with a lot of building on the edges. Most urban planner types will tell you to build at the core, to make bikes and walking workable. Doesn't any real bike guy have to work off that model, bike infrastructure so you can actually use a bike to get around?
    With ebikes at this price level, I am cheering for the Sondors electric car, the three wheeler, at around $10k. Much safer, on the road system we have.
    Interesting motor but you'd have to do a BBS02 build and then do the comps to convince me it works at the price levels the bikes are selling for. Smooth and quiet, but so is a good (heavy) direct drive, and they throw in the free braking.

    Clicked on a vid about Brose S, first thing said is 'this is not a Brose S, I dont have one', and does not bother to tell how this one differs from the S... If you dont have a Brose S, what do you have? Is that a Brose 'non-s'? What is the difference with the S?
    I should start a youtube channel too. It will be about ebike motors: I dont have ebike motors, but look at this potato in my hand. Now let's check the specs...

    After water gets into this expensive motor will starts corrosion which destroys bearings and shaft. This motor basically isn't serviceable. Repairing it is possible but it would cost a lot. It's important not to ride in wet weather but this is impossible in countries like UK or Netherlands where so much rainy days in the year.

      If and when I find the motivation to make a video, it will contain relevant information and follow the title. I am not employed by a bicycle shop and I don't make videos. I use bicycles, I watch video's, and iI can distinguish the good from the bad.
