    i don't understand why people are obsessed by the fact that a lens is made or not of metal. plastic in some way is better than metal

    The Panasonic 12-35 and 35-100 have been in my bag for years, and I've avoided the 14-140 for so long because I thought it was a cheap compromise. But the thought of that zoom range in one lens is very intriguing. Thanks, this is a great comparison.

    I used the Panasonic 14-140 for two years with a Lumix G7. I ended up taking more stills. But the economy, versatility and lightweight nature of this equipment is pretty impressive in good light.

    Having the Olympus 14-150 f4-5.6 II in the mix would have been really interesting, expecially given the weather sealing component in that lens. Anyway, thanks for showing us the Tamron underdog, ignored almost everywhere!

    Good video. It's interesting seeing mirrorless converts finally seeing the benefits of these great systems, especially things like image stabilisation, EVF and the indispensable flip touch screen. I hated the weight and outright clunky handling of my Nikons so I've never regretted switching years back. I've used the 14-140 for at least 5 years and it's hands down the best travel lens ever for stills and video versatility with the GH5. I use it regularly for pro work too when not using primes. It's a must have for any run and gun styles.

    I have the Panasonic 14-140mm but I don't use it for professional work. I shoot a lot of live theatre and it's a bit too dark. What about a comparison between this and the Olympus 12-100mm?

    I'm looking into getting this lens for documentary filmmaking. Yesterday I shot a short doc using a 14-42 panny kit lens and sometimes it wasn't enough. So thanks for this video because now I have a better idea that it might be worth it to get the 14-140.

    Don't forget those of us with Olympus OMD and in body 5 axis IS. I have the Tamron 14-150, covers a nice range in a single lens for us non professional photographers...

  • @markellsworth980
    @markellsworth980 Před 2 lety +2

    I bought the Tamron. Main reason for me was the stepper motor, but also Tamron's specialty is zoom lenses. I only disagreed with one thing in the video, the blame for the zoom-drift slowness of the focus. DFD requires hints to be placed into the firmware of the lens in order for the body to not fall back on plain CDAF, which Panasonic does not license so as to assert something of a monopoly over lens choice. On an Olympus Body with PDAF, the Tamron tracks the video zoom like the native lens on the Panasonic. Stills on either one are fast enough either way, so in the final sense, it depends on your use case. If think full transport video zooms, all the way from near to far, are silly anyway, partials quite interesting. So the slow video AF on the Panasonic body is not the fault of the Tamron lens. It is the fault of business practice at Panasonic. They want your money. With regard to picture quality, 4K video noes not require an especially sharp lens, because 4K only generates an 8 megapixel picture. What we hate to admit is the convenience of the all-in-one zoom for use on stills. When we go out, solely to shoot, we like to mount the sharpest or alternatively the fastest lens for the scenario. But when we travel, we have a choice, either to take the whole bag and take your time, often scarce-I carry 7 lenses, 3 of which are small primes-or cut to the chase and put up with the "travel length" zoom, small compromises forgiven. In the end, we agree. The results are not altogether terrible, but very good, not perfect.

  • @quadcom
    @quadcom Před 4 lety +2

    The problem with the Panasonic lenses when shooting video is they are impossible to pull focus with. They are a focus by wire (electronic focus) which makes trying to keep a subject in focus manually as you either pull away or get closer to pretty much impossible. I've tried panny lenses in a pocket4k because I'd like an OIS lens. Totally let down when I realized this issue.

  • @TuJabe
    @TuJabe Před 6 lety +3

    Nice Review....but from my experience, i am missing one point (may be its not a huge deal for filmers). What happens with the tamron when you shoot against bright sun or other brighter lightsources? The Panny 14-140II is known for its weak performance in that area. Horrible purble and greenish blobs that invade huge parts of the frame often makes a shot unusable. So, does tamron better here? That could be an advantage.

    This was helpful. I watched a video somewhere with a Panasonic rep talking about the benefits of their DFD Autofocus with Panasonic lenses. One other aspect you didn't consider that the Panasonic does better than the Tamron and the Olympus is the focus distance. Panasonic is 30cm where as the other two is 50cm. Considering the 14-42mm Olympus and Panasonic are between 20-25cm focal distance, I would be willing to loss a little zoom with the Panasonic 14-140mm for a tighter focal length closer to the 14-42 kit lenes.

    Hi, What shoukd i do or what setting would assure a functioning dual I.s.? I got a gx9 with a 14-140 but don’t get the image stabilizer to show dual is in the menus. Also, should the lens make any sound or is it super quiet, I don’t get anything when I flip the lens switch on, also nothing in the menus as if this is not a stabilized lens

  • @SayWhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

    Hmm you saying here that depth of field now is a lens thing not a camera? :D

      It's the combination of the sensor and the lens. There is a lot of misleading info about it.

  • @AlexLancashirePersonalView

    I have the same thing with my Canon M5. I use a 22mm. M pancake lens for snapping at parties etc. or use an adapted EF L 24-105 lens for more serious and video. Also have an 18- 55 M lens which is very useful Lee. If you have any sway with Canon, please ask them to make the remote trigger port and main take button change from still to video when you are taking movies. Bit of video fron the M5 included. czcams.com/video/YveDNbH-UTU/video.html
