- This TAS of Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal was created by NanoHologuise on Dec 18, 2020. As of 2022, this run is 6 MINUTES faster than what a human is capable of. This TAS is a historic landmark for the community, as it was the first full game TAS we had ever seen. What an incredible project that demonstrates the full limits of UYA.

Thanks for doing this! It's always great to see people enjoy what you do; blowing minds was part of the reason I came to enjoy TASing in the first place.
For the people interested in some more details on the TAS, as Xem mentioned in the vid and in the description we jumped in a call and went over the full thing planet by planet, so you should definitely check that out when he uploads it. I'll probably have a commentary on it up on my own channel at some point too. There's also some outtakes and stuff from the TAS process, as well as some explanations, which you can find in the description of the TAS.
Also, sorry to disappoint all you Bouncer Benjamins out there, but the Bouncer isn't faster and the cutscene skips don't require it. I just thought they did when I started.

I've already watched through this TAS 6 times and I'm still catching something in every single level. Truly up there with some of the greatest TASes I've ever seen and while a lot of it isn't RTA viable I think this really helps demonstrate how damn high the skill ceiling is for this game.
I usually don’t like reaction videos but this one is really cool because it’s interesting and entertaining and you’re knowledgeable and are having legitimate reactions to new things in a game you’ve played a lot of! Good work on the speedruns btw
I always do what I can to make my reaction videos as informative as possible. It's nice to have such a niche knowledge to be able to share with you all (when my mind isn't being blown)

It's not the first TAS, but it is the first full-game TAS.
A large part of TASes being creatable is the tools for making them being good. PCSX2 only really got decent tools at all in the last couple years, and PCSX2 will still desync occasionally, especially on loads. Like Balakeh said, it's also a niche within a niche: it takes so much time and effort. There's only a few people in the Ratchet community who TAS, and I'm pretty much the only one who was focused on UYA.
Also, to add onto NanoHologuise's comment, Ratchet and Clank is a game that functions on a 3D plane, which already would make it more difficult to create a TAS for. The game itself also has a lot of complex movement options, including a lot of movement tech that is impossible for a human to achieve, so it would likely take longer to account for that.

Honestly can't beleive how long it took for a tas of one of these games, but just goes to show how infinitley complex the movement options in this game can be
At 3:14 that lag jump where he is side flipping at half height but going very fast; you could do that on UYA multiplayer, some called it drag'n'lag (mash up between drag'n'jump and lag jump)
Take out your wrench, chargeboot off a short ledge so you keep your momentum, hold squat button, when you land press X, wait for a few frames, then press a direction on the D pad/analog stick.
If you press X and the direction too close together you do a side flip but loose your momentum; if you press them too far apart you will just jump forward and turn to the side.

Anyone else hearing a slightly different version of Ratchet's voice (like when he hit his head repetitively under the turret)? I know this is the Korean version, but I wear my English copy of Going Commando sounds like this (and different from my English UYA).
You probably have the greatest hits version of going commando, as that one has different voice clips for ratchet that were later used in the korean versions of both UYA and Deadlocked. I don't think the korean version of going commando has it, so I believe what might have happened is they assigned those voice clips to the wrong version of the game (greatest hits), and fixed it for the later ones.

I'm pretty sure I accidentally froze Nefarious at one point when I played this as a kid, he just kept standing there and I beat him with the wrench until he died. I never found out what triggered it though

He streams every day except Sundays. As for the time, I don't exactly know because I'm on a different timezone but I hope I helped
Like Constantinos said, 6 days a week, usually starting around 1pm central US time. Usually speedruns all stream, but right now I'm a little burnt out, so I'm only doing a few hours of runs and then casual stuff the later half.

New to watching speedruns. Is it uncommon for people to run the game in lock strafe?
Yes, whip jumps are frame perfect in lock strafe, not sure what other issues there might be
So how come the Korean version is faster than other versions? Like I get the difference between NTSC and PAL (60fps and 50fps respectively), but what’s the difference in the Korean version?
There's some unskippable dialogue on Holostar Studios (before and after the Clank and Giant Clank sections). Korean saves time on those dialogue lines.
