    Those little holes are most likely to balance those rings.

    If your 100+ year old project doesn't have at least 2 kinda screws is it even really a project?
    Those old rings would be a really cool souvenir for your shop or somewhere like that

    A disc of acrylic or fibreboard on top and it would make a nifty side table :)

    I wonder if the series of small holes that you found was weight removal for balancing. In which case I wonder if the complete set of rings was balanced, or just individual rings. Really interesting stuff.

    It starts with shmoo in the hole and then shrinkage occurs.

  • @nixxonnor

    Maybe the small holes in the inside of the slip ring were drilled by a overly prudent engineer during a dynamic balancing of the ring assembly?

      @@Physicsduck aw man that’s awesome. I’ve done a few discovery flights in both helicopters and airplanes. My current goal is to go into the army National guard flying helicopters as a Warrant Officer. But I might fly fixed wing in the civilian sector just because it’s so much cheaper, and my end goal is to fly for an airline. Hopefully by then I’ll have the income to fly helicopters for leisure.

    • @Physicsduck
      @Physicsduck  Před 2 lety +4

      Yes, it would. I'd like to have a closeup camera off to the side, but that would require two things. 1. Another camera. 2. A place to put it. But I consider it a lesson for when I build the next shop. For now, I use the overhead camera for closeups.
