These are the rules, but always trust your ears (c)
Thanks, Chris!
Denis Tuchkov he is the king of building a vibe off of the floor and his ears. Doubt he uses this
You got damn right
right! :)
You also do not need to harmonically mix of course but I do like to use when possible.
By the way, really great thing they added - this update essentially added track recommendation as well. It highlights the tracks that are in key in your library, which is the exact same algorithim that record box uses. Just thought I’d let everyone know. I really am happy with this update

Awesome! Very excited for all the attention Traktor is getting. Great video and advice. Can't wait for the next update!
"You should never be limited, that's the key"
I see what you did there
Nice one Baddest DJ
You are limited by your own creativity really.
Danke Chris! Endlich habe ich das mit den Keys halbwegs verstanden 🎼👍 Das wird meine Sets definitiv auf einen höheren Level bringen! Bitte mehr Tipps! 👌
The new features are great as well as the video, very smart and informative yet engaging.
I really love this new feature. waiting for this since long time, now its finally here.
This is great I never really worried about 'key'
But now it looks like something I want to explore and it even looks inviting. Great work NI
john c if you produce music and play music it makes sense.
Great video. Love the 3.2 release. Checking out the harmony features now. This is a huge game changer! :)
Great tips here & top video led by one of the greatest! Always trust your ears to as Chris frequently points out.
Wow, Traktor now can color code and recommend tracks related by key right on the GUI. This is a feature I had been waiting for for almost a decade.
bobtheman1 its has always done this
@@distortionpedal Well, I'll be damned.
Damn!! this is so great I used it 3 times already and I can say this is a game changer.
That is an amazing update!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for these pro tips, great vid NI Team!
Awesome I've been waiting for something like this for a long time! Well done NI 👍 I'm gonna have to switch from MIK back to Traktor key now
Great video Chris, got it no problem and it makes a huge difference, cheers mate.
Liebing, you are a living legend!!!
It just keeps getting better!
Really Interesting... You mentioned it in the video, and yes, if you dj and you have had a music background of any sort with any intrument, you will probably do this naturally anyhow with your mixes. It was quite funny to see as I loaded up some of mixes in my deck and looked at the keys they are in. The ones I looked at are either one up or down from each other!!
When out and about listening to other dj's and can tell you the one's who have just jumped into it from the digital age as they miss that key ingredient. Alway tell newbies if you wanna dj, especially house or dance music, get your hand on some decks or vinyl at somepoint. You will learn all of this... Denis Tuchkov, you are spot on!
Thank you for great video and clear explanation!!!
Thanks Chris. Coolest Dude on the planet!
I just bought the S4 MK3!!! Thanks for this!!
This was the feature I've been waiting for!
Octavian Nasui check out my comment about the key wheel. If you learn that, things will make even more sense.
If you going to break the rules, you got to know them first.Native Instruments always helped in that matter.Well explained video!
THIS IS GREAT!! Summary, Traktor 3.2 has Elastique 3.3, and highlights tracks with matching/compatible keys!
Always perfect Chris.
Fantastic video, thank you.
Thank you! This is awesome!
That was fantastic, thanks
Wow an actual good tutorial Ile deffo utilise this.
pitch'n'time for traktor .. awesome
Cheers for this. I was not aware of this resulting key function. That was the thing I was always worried about with a key mapping function.
Chris is a legend !
Excellent video, CRL máster DJ , thanks N.I auguri ☆
Thax for the freestyle tip its wa a do and you to man !! Break the rule for evolution
Simply LOVE IT
Brilliant!!!!
Nice! Waiting for new controllers🔥🔥🔥
Exciting new ways!
Nice to see that Traktor is finally catching up on what few other DJ software already does even more better. Color coding the compatible tracks is really neat. Does Traktor detect more than one key within the track? Often tracks are composed with a compatible set of keys using circle of fifth rule. Very few DJ software detect more than one key in the track.
Another thing I would like to see is detecting the energy level of each segment within a track.
The trick you showed about changing the pitch of one track completely and mixing in another track to pump up the beats is really neat. I didn't think of that before. Have to try that.
Thanks for intro. 👍
one of the techno gods ☝🏻
Thanks Chris ❤️
NICE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Chris
Excellent overview. Thank you for posting!
Well done Chris.
very nice and informative video. I like the fact that chris uses tracks that he actually plays in his set. The only problem for me that i see when using external mixing (like chris would do with his full setup): matching or adjacent keys will only be highlighted if the current deck is set to master. But with external mixing I use the master clock as the master.
@Florian Sarges Thanks. No problem, I tried it out yesterday and just let all keys be highlighted :)
good update
Excellent news!! Problably will end forcing all the tracks in my set to one key ,lets see how it works,...
very helpful thx bruv
Any time!
Chris Liebing is so ein geiler Typ.
This is great. You can now use music theory to match your keys. Very useful that NI put the numerical notation since is more important. Root key is not really that important but the relative kets are. Does the S/W indicate Major/Minor in the numerical mode and are the numerical modes automatically updated relative to the Master track ? For instance you may be looking to transition to a iii-m from your current I-Maj. It would be great to know what your B track being cued is relative to the current playing track. Would save a lot of theory headaches.
I have only ever mixed in key. Being a musician back in the day you really notice djs who are out of key. Its almost hurts my brain. Or that could be because im a bit autistic. ? I love the colour coding. Its a dyslecsics kids dream. .. especially when not prepared.
Probably should get that autism seen too.
@@davidrowan3853 you had to type something so that's what you typed . good on you.
I notice the library doesn't show these key matches on the Kontrol S5/S8/D2. Perhaps that could be added in a patch?
You guys think that you will do something like the Denon Prime 4 but with Traktor? I'm pretty interested on something like it.
Great info! My only problem is tracks in my collection wont be highlighted when setting the "allow color matching/adjacent keys"
You might as well say that in a weird way, improvising becomes part of the mixing in tenpo. I was wondering if in the future features like stem morphing and ratio mixing will be available. I relate to a plugin called mmorph from meldaproductions. Features like that will create new sounds an scapes and mixing techniques never heard before. Will that be possible in the future?
1:46 Above "Active" Loop, the key is displayed as < 9m >. How do you enable these arrows? I only have the blue quarter note symbol for master tempo
why does my traktor 3 pro not show me those colors? I've set all settings like in this video explained but even the same keys won't show colored or highlighted in some way.
I also want to say:
I just got my S4 mk3 a few days ago and I am totally new with DJing! I've already learned so much with just a few videos on your channel! The tutorial with Endo is also amazing! Now I've learned about Phrases and Hamonic mixing and WOW it's so much fun and I feel like I already made a huge step forward! I really love Traktor already and my S4. OMG 😂😂
If I could get those colors for the key in my browser that would help me a lot! I've tried both settings Chris has explained but none of it worked
Thanks,🙏
Good Job much props to Native Instruments for fixing a bunch of issues for Mk3 S4 and working hard to get the software hardware were it should be
Great Job NI!!!!!
I love when TRAKTOR PRO GETS FREE UPDATES!!
Native Instruments KEEP IT UP!!!!
You have to compete against serato and rekord box THATS NOT EASY!!
"Free updates".. aren't they always free? I never paid for a patch
Thanks.
A few more live example mini-mixes would have made this better (there were only 3), e.g. actually demonstrating how the different highlight colors help you choose the energy level, etc.. However the Keylock sound quality improvement in TP 3.1 was already a killer feature and based on this I'm definitely going to be using it even more in 3.2.
cool to see Chris using an S4mk3 in this video. I wonder if he would ever perform with one?
he turn on loop with laptop touchpad xD
Thanks I need all the help I can get Just when I get comfortable I feel I need a IT degree to catch up
Haha.. So true Steven! I have an IT degree and that's how I got into Digital DJing
Wow thanks) Harmonic Mixing ) thanks) great Video 2 )
Why I downloaded the pro version, the installation is LE, a lot of settings are missing, the mapping file cannot be used, the controller, help me thank you
wonderful presentation Chris. I might even buy the S4 controller now. Damn you !
You should, it is awesome :-)
@@BastianHeilmusic Wish I had toys like this when I was a child... 3.2.0 upgrades is solid and I like the new harmonic tool! It works for me.
@@BastianHeilmusic it does... do your research before making claims ;)
Awesome video. Very informative and looking forward to trying this out. I'd also really love it if I could brighten the LED's on my S2 mk3, please! Can this be done guys? :)
I use Traktor Kontrol S4 MK2 and i can change the "ON" and "OFF" LED brightness in my preferences under the last column in my preferences at the bottom of the list where it names the controller. Pretty sure it's the same for the S2 :)
Maybe use a the dedicated power supply for full brightness
Hello Chris, I have Traktor Pro and the battery symbol by the record button keeps flashing. Any idea why? Thanks.
NI are you ever gonna add pad fx to traktor or I shuld go with rekordbox ? ty.
nice!
Please Mr Crhis Liebing !! Its a great pleasure listen a great star talking this awesome software !
Please if you or other person here can help me or had time , witch is the most stable controller for the traktor pro to playng live ??? With the best srablity and endurance Pioneer , Native s8 or Denon ? and the best format of music for the same live gigs , mp3 or other ?? Sorry about my ignorance ...
Also better dedicated Mac laptoop or a asus or toshiba lapptop ?
Thank you very much !!
Greatings !! I love your work !!
Congrats to your work and native instruments too !
Hola cómo estás?
Tengo 2 denon 1200 y una Notebook i7
Pero no reconoce traktor pro 3 el drivers de asio denon dj.
Cómo puedo hacer para que reconozca el drivers y poder usarlo
Hi, i already try to put the same configuration like he has on it, but my adjacent keys doesnt appear with the colors, somebody knows why ??

nice 👌🏼🤩
Hi I have one question
S3 windows or mac version can use?
Any idea please thanks
Does this work with Mixed In Key result ? For exemple if I change the key of a 8A does it still show 8A or it show the new result in the Camelot system ?
Cause I don't want to use the Traktor key detection system, not because it's less accurate (maybe it's better now) but because it's not logical like the MIK system where the different combinaison of key make more sence (like 8A with 4A, 5A/10A...). It's possible to do the same with Traktor system, but the number don't have this logical link (cause 4A/8A become 9m/1m, 5A/10A = 10m/3m... no mathematical logic here..)
I wanna know too!! :)
I was wondering the exact same. I want to use this feature but would rather use my mik system rather than traktors own if possible
dude do it by the actual notes learn to understand them because if you make tracks yourself and say you like the vibe of a certain track you will know straight away what the root note is so you can make your track in the same key
DJiMMa yes!!
Via preferences you can choose to see keys in sharps, flats, cameltoe system, and Traktor's
Чётко! Спасибо!
anyone knows if you can finally midi map sorting of various columns in playlists? like i want to push a button on controller and sort with key or artist or number or whatever. Thanks
I am asking the same on a similar post...c'mon Traktor!
@Florian Sarges thanks! lets hope it will be implemented! I have been bothering you for years for this! :)
Bad ass yo!!!!
I have the Tractor Pro 2 PC Based windows .....can you use 4 decks on the Tractor s3 Pro ? Windows Tractor ...or do you have to buy the actual deck ? or go up to the s4? or s5 ? wondering as virtual dj does do 4 decks -BUT I prefer the sync on tractor and WAV file ...so which one can do 3 inputs on a pc ..from the music library eg Tractor pro 2 only 2 decks**** looking for 3 decks on the PC version -any advice Thanks any one :)
The Answer to all your questions is yes.
Unfortunately, the suggested keys are not shown in the displays of Kontrol S5 and S8. This should definitely be corrected.
So if I am correct, you can shift the pitch without changing the tempo? Thats really awesome.
Correct
My vinyl doesn’t have key on the label. Can you help?
the colour matching and adjacent keys doesn't seem to be working on mine, when the bpms are equal or slightly different, you'd think it would match them but it doesn't :/
bpm has no relation to key in digital mixing.
ACE !!!!
He is a God
this is not working on my latest version, anyone can help ?
I want the S5!
I bought Mixed in Key a few months ago. Does it mean I wasted my money? Yes it does 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Traktor as always you are the best!!
i have MIK too, last time i checked MIK does a better job in key dection than traktor. Maybe this has changed, i will check it out. but still this new update should be very helpful
@@newflipcompany I've heard that MIK is better in detection but for me personally if this update can save me some time i will put MIK a side for a long time :))
@@newflipcompany How do you find cue points in MIK? I have to adjust them all the time and because of that started to find them useless.
it's not useless. You can still the MIK coz it ius more accurate then let traktor read it.
@@80cemeh i don't use it for cue point detection, only for key detection
A DJ/producer told me that changing the key is wrong because you're ruining the modulation of the track etc... Well obviously but the point is to make something sound good TOGETHER. What I like to do is bring in a new song to the same key as the one that's playing, and then 16 beats before the drop of the new track I change the key to normal.
Fire.
Is the key detection algorithm improved? up until now traktor seems to get keys wrong over 50% of the time in my experience
Nah still the same as far as I can tell
Remeber - Traktor notation is NOT the same as mixed in key notation. It works in the same way but the numbers/letters are not the same as mixed in key
So I take it mixed in key would be better to use.
Or will it still work ok if all my tracks are keyed from traktor?
I got Traktor Pro 3, and key detection seems pretty accurate...
@@rodrigocatelli so now is it worked or not?
Can you change the key of any track without changing the tempo? Can you change it to _any_ key? Can you change a 8A (Camelot key system) to a 7B, for instance? Or maybe that's too drastic... how about changing a 5A to an 8B (both denoted by same piano key)?
yes but sound quality will be affected by the stretching depending how far you go....try it and see
Yes, that's the resulting key feature in Traktor. Virtual DJ has a slightly better more precise feature that actually goes to different keys in increments rather than decimal/numeric.
Why did he looped the anna track on the wrong point? You can hear that synth cut/jump incorrectly.
Because it's just a quick demonstration, not a studio mix?
I have change the settings but I can't get my color coated keys!!! Has anyone had this problem?? Thanks
it only shows when a track is playing and you have keylock enabled on a deck
Its quite ironic that a few times I did a mix then later saw that I was pretty much that I had been harmonic mixing-experience-and your ears matter--judging a dancefloor if your playing a gig-great Software
I have been a natural harmonic mixer myself for years my ears tell me straight away if it is in key so I won't be bothering myself but handy for other people who don't have that inner ear
I do also have a natural ear for that altho having these already tagged is very efficient when you just want to improv a set!
You shouldnt be a DJ if you can't tell with your own ears.. still, i key tag everything, and i do it from 2 different softwares even just to give me a better view of what the computers think these songs are. Just a way to help you pick stuff out to see if it works with the last song. Of course its always the best if you are playing a song, and you hear the next one in your head and you go find that one..
Well aren't you super cool . Learn how to play the guitar and tell me how good your ears are then
