Swiftly, these ‚extraordinary machines‘ became new symbols of civic unity, political power, and mastery over time. They also transformed timekeeping from a solely auditory experience to a visually captivating phenomenon through elaborate decorations that employed diverse artistic subjects, techniques and forms.
