12 cylinder perfection, only real gear heads can appreciate this 👍
And only real gearheads can appreciate what a dreadful pain in the ass it was to maintain and adjust all those carburetors!
This is the reason why I love old cars, you have to wake up the beast first and then you can go easily, not like modern cars where you don't know if the engine is running after you turn the key
Old car are all about the feeling, now they are all about tech , boring if you ask me
I can't even afford to watch this lol
Dustin Prost Love it. Underrated comment.
Dustin Prost 100 usd will be charged to your account for watching this
Top reply that, made me laugh out loud..
My Bank account just got empty by watching this.
My friend used to say...I am so poor that I cannot even afford to pay attention.
He's got so many cars he doesn't know where the key goes
That's true lol
Maybe becose a lot of car ad a different key position ?
so true......but hes wearing a race suit
Maybe he's only the hired driver for that race.
I found the larrikin channel ❤
It just doesn't get any better than this I was surprised how quiet it was when idling it goes to show that they are and were years ahead of any other super car...👋🏻👌🏼
That engine is a work of masterpiece.
I guess everyones an expert here when it comes to revving cold engines, including me. I dont know every detail but I know the 250 gto engine was a purpose built endurance engine (hence the gt in the name) with a dry sump oiling system. Ive turned wrenches on quite a few cars and engines and having to rev up or blip the throttle alot on a cold race engine after startup (especially without idle circuits or a choke) was necessary. Someones shitty little 4 cylinder daily driver and a v12 built for 24hr lemans are going to be quite different inside and out. You can always count on youtube to bring out the mechanical engineering genius in everyone.
Nice to read a reasonable comment for a change.
rayden85 no one thinks things through anymore. They hear "revving a cold engine is bad" from someone or on a commercial or some shit and just start repeating it like its a one size fits all statement. Sometimes when i read these comments from all these experts i just shake my head
TATERTOTS JACKSON Not to mention that no one but the driver and maybe the cameraman know the state of the engine (cold or hot start) at startup while filming. My bet is with a car that can fetch between $25m - $50m at auction, whomever is firing it up will have taken EVERY precaution to preserve the motor's longivity before turning the key.
Yep. I had a souped up little renault that wouldnt idle cold you HAD to hold it open til it warmed up and it started carburating properly
With the cam profile it had, and even then it needed blipping sometimes.
And my Alfa 2600 sprint...hell. Triple delortos, wide open exhaust. Damn thing didnt idle until warm FROM THE FACTORY. Even with 'chokes' lol. So much lol.chokes. Heh. Pull this if you want it to stall switch.
Theyve never driven an old car with carbs,a lumpy cam, bigger valves, double valve springs and some positive exhaust scavenging, just modern fuel injection and mapped ignition, but they fuggin know all about it. Dont even notice their new car idles faster cold...
Start an old car with chokes and guess what, accelerated idle.
In reality, revving is used also to warm up modern race engines. After all, without load applied, the engine must just compensate only for internal frictions.
Revving a cold engine is bad IF YOU ARE APPLYING LOAD, for example when driving.
This because in this case the engine has to move the entire vehicle, not only its internal parts.
I saw one of these race at mid Ohio in 1963, I' ll never forget that beautiful shriek !
I’m shaking! Listen to this with good headphones-- such an eargasm!
Glad he found the right key :)
Fezza colombo v12
What a beautiful piece of Enginnering. beautifuuly preserved , wow it sounds great
I once Worked on both a 250 SWB and 275 GTB/4. I got the pleasure of Hearing both Ferrari V12 Engines Start. Boy, what a glorious Sound!
Because G. Lee was already V12. Thank you for this AMAZING SOUND.Nice trip to L.A. and Mr. Mantegna too.Olèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèèè
My favorite car since I was a kid and had an Aurora HO slot car replica. #2, the 1st generation American Motors Javelin AMX.
La più bella macchina in assoluto mai costruita! Absolutely the most beautiful car ever built!
Piu bela
Me likey!!!!!! The induction vacuum sizzle definitely contributes to one of the best sounding V12's EVER!!!! Good God this baby sounds amazing!! Que bella! 😘🤌🏼!!
My Dad's shop in Los Feliz Ca. had 3 of these in 1977 they were amazing!!
Lovely sound... Music to my ears...
An amazing looking engine. Though with my few times trying to synchronize 4 carbs on a bike, I cannot even imagine the headache that would be caused by trying to sync all those! Best left to the pros I’m sure
This engine runs perfect and very smoothly.
João Mario Cottas but sounds like S****
Love it, so beautiful. Thank you for posting!!!
Thanks so much for this awesome video! 🇫🇷
What a lovely purr on this beautiful beast
legend has it, HE is still revving it!
He's not revving it very high. Remember, it's 12 cylinders, so it sounds like it's revving higher than it actually is. I'm guessing he didn't even exceed 3000 RPM.
Cold engine
@@rafaelribeiro3794 I let my cars idle for quite some time before I take them out. Then I still baby them til the Oil Temp is up. Its just not worth the damage to the engine for my liking.
@@gumballer133 You actually are causing further premature wear like that. Letting the engine idle for a while, it's still a cold engine, and it is still running, it's still a cold start. Letting it idle cold for a long time just means it's running far longer before coming anywhere near operating temperature. That time you really want to minimise. Best practice is to get the oil pressure up, so 10-15 seconds after start then immediately drive it gently to get the engine up to temp as fast as possible. Something like 85% of all engine wear occurs from cold running or cold starts, that extended cold running time isn't as good as just getting up to temperature asap.
@@deafyboy86 Usually what I will do is uncover whichever car we are taking, check the fluids (yea, slightly OCD), and on the fuel injected cars I start them and spray wax them while they are warming up. 5min later we start poking along the road short shifting. It has worked for me the last 22 years of having sports cars, but I'm always open for ways to improve.
Agreed, I own an '85 Alfa gtv6 with a 3.0 engine and I need to rev it on start up for a minute or two or it will stall. Even the 3.0 v6 sounds like I'm revving hard , but I don't go above 2800-2900 rpms. A lot of people have something to say, but until you own one of these types of cars and know their intricacies, you should keep the flap shut... jmho
I have a v12... at 3k rpm it sounds like a i6 at 6k rpm.... he really is not over reving it ... he never took it above 3.5k rpm, rewatched vid... ok he might have got to 4k rpm , now at 6k rpm they sound lovely!
V12 So powerful and so smooth greatest engine ever
Old Fords Don't die 👏🏼👌🏼
Awesome sound, music to my ears.
Wow purrs nicely..what an engine!
Nice mill. Sounds well balanced.
The best and more nice ferrari of the history.congratulations
Beautiful car. It would have been nice to hear the exhaust though.
Nice Sound Thanks for the video. Regards from Europe Barcelona Spain
My previous car fitted with dual Weber 44 IDF carbs would not let me get away with throttle blips if it was left outside.
The start up procedure was... pump the throttle 1-2 times to get some fuel down the intake manifold from the acceleration circuit... turn the key to fire the engine...wait for the idle to smooth out before driving off.
The carbs tend to be a bit more forgiving inside a warm garage.
I still would have waited a bit longer to goose the throttle.
That'd give the internals just a bit more time to expand and oil pressure a bit longer to stabilize...especially since the car is garaged.
che suono ............sublime
i love italy cars amazing roar
The engine is perfect 👌
The steam that evaporated while that video played was worth more than I make in a week. Beautiful. 😀
very nice indeed, thank you.
Masterpiece.
V-12 in race trim. Beautiful piece of machinery...
Best looking Ferrari ever.
To my eye's, that is the most beautiful car ever made.😎
but even Enzo F. said that is a jag XKE. ha.
@@davidfrank6666 Enzo was also an asshole and its an E type, not an XKE, that's some silly American moniker for what is known throughout the world as an E type Jag.
Pure art.
this engine sound is music to my ears
wow, just LOVE it how that engine runs ... that sound !! like music !! But am curious where the smoke development came from ...
Che dire..... UN'OPERA D'ARTE!!!!!
The Columbo V12 ; the automotive equivalent of a Swiss watch. Mechanical perfection.
God, that’s an absolutely beautiful machine
love ferrari 250 gto
Opera d'arte assoluta
Top! La più bella di tutte
All sides are correct regarding the cold engine. One one hand, it's best to let the oil temperature warm up before revving it -- and the Columbo V12's take a LONG time for the oil temperature to come up to operating temperature (usually 10 or 15 minutes, much longer than the water temp). On the other hand, he isn't revving it that high, so he isn't really damaging it with those blips. Most experts say the best warmup is to hold it steady at about 3k RPM's immediately after starting cold - which is a happy medium between getting oil pressure up while not revving it too high while the engine tolerances are tight as a result of the engine (metal) being cold.
Many experts actually discourage blipping the throttle (whether the engine is cold or hot) on these cars because raw fuel can wash into the combustion chamber and down the cylinder walls, ever so slightly thinning out the oil over time. I don't know if I believe this or not, nor do I know why Ferrari would be different than any other car in this respect, but I've heard it said often enough that there is probably some truth to it.
Fuel actually burns when the spark plug sparks into the cylinders. The only place it goes is out the exhaust tubes as a gas.
One of the best looking cars still
THIS IS NOT AN ENGINE -----IT,S A WORK OF ART-------worth millions
Great demo !
This is how you keep a cold engine running when you have carbs with no chokes. He's not hurting it.
+moejr1974 It is not that he's not hurting the engine, but he doesn't have any choice but to do it.
+jpogi gtxcr1 That's what I said
Yep! But I was trying to be specific here. We are hurting the engine a bit by a slight increased wear and tear specially the valvetrain, since the oil that have settled down haven't yet circulated well enough.
But As we've said, we have no choice but to do it. Even carbs with chokes will have trouble maintaining idle in a very cold engine.
True. Honestly, the revs probably were never more than 3k anyway, which isn't enough to do any harm.
You don't know what your talking about.
This is music to the ears.
Me likey!! Absolutely beautiful!! 'Nuff said!!!

Top draft carbs from this area of time don’t have chokes, so he needs to rev it in order for it to run.

Haha all those guys about revving the engine cold. You really think they would let an unqualified person touch a 30 plus million dollar car without any knowledge ?
Yes, money allows all kinds of stupidity.
@@A_Man_In_His_Van Correct.
More along the lines of 70 million. But absolutely not! Not this car. I seen the comments below saying money can get you whatever you want. Not for a car like this. Sorry guys. I agree 100%, but there are certain vehicles that noone will just let someone do whatever to. Like jay lenos F1. He wouldnt let doug demuro even drive it down the road because of insurance reasons. If you know anything about cars, you know who doug is.
ryan olson like what?
