I'm also just floored by your ability to sew from the back of the machine (and I get why you do it, just surprised anyone would bother to do that). Thanks for this great tutorial, I plan to use it as a beginner project in my afterschool sewing club this fall.
Now if only my junior high Home Ec sewing teacher had us make this as our first project instead of installing a zipper in a skirt! This was a great idea to get a new sewist off and running with an "I can do that!" successful and immediately useful project. And the great thing about this project is that it could be adapted in size to make gifts for friends and family for something like: 1) artist brushes, 2) colored pencils (or crayons), 3) crochet or knitting needles, 4) first apartment gift for a beginner's roll up "toolbox" with a small wrench, pliers, hammer, wire cutter, box cutter, screwdriver, 5) multiple pockets in an half apron, 6) holder for cosmetics brushes, pencils, eyebrow tweezers, lipstick liners, etc. Just by changing the fabric selections and perhaps the "ribbon" content (cotton, satin, cording, leather), there's a little something for everyone in the family. Heck, and while we're at it, let's use a micron pen and personalize it in some way like, "Made especially for ________ from __________."
I have watched you for quite awhile now … you are an amazing seamstress and fabulous teacher! Today I learned how to complete this adorable and useful project but also, YOU CAN EVEN SEW FROM BEHIND THE MACHINE!!! Is there anything you can’t do? Thanks again for all you give! Blessings! 😍😍😍
@@SewVeryEasy I am your biggest fan now, some of the little creative flairy bits you add; I am like a child with candy seeing these. Truly a master seamstress!
This video made my day! I have been looking for a tool roll up pattern/tutorial for several days now and this one perfectly fit my needs. Your attention to detail is awesome! Even though I am an experienced sewer (I’m 70 years old and began sewing at 8 years old on my mothers treadle sewing machine), it doesn’t hurt to brush up on a few skills. My husband & I gifted our 19 year old granddaughter with a new sewing machine for her high school graduation and I am definitely going to direct her to this channel! Thank you so much!
It took getting through the whole video to realize: 🙊SHE'S SEWING FROM BEHIND HER MACHINE! 😯 Super impressive teaching skills and makes me realize I'm going to have to up my game! 👏👏👏
I am Impressed with your ability to sew from behind and on the side of the sewing machine. I also Love the way you walk us through each step and not just Tell us, you are one of the Few ( that I've seen) that actually take the time to literally point out where to sew and show how to pivot, and why, I could go on. I know I'm not the only one who wants to ; THANK YOU for All you do to help make thing easier for Us.
I just made this for my sister because she said she didn't have a tape measure . Who doesn't have a tape measure ? So I jumped onto your page and within minutes I was sewing . It took me a really long time to finish because I decided to quilt it :-) it turned out amazing
Dear Laura, I've been sewing for a while. But I really appreciate how clear your directions are and your clear explanation of what things mean. I'm blind in your instructions are clear enough that I could easily follow them. Again thanks for all the work you do. And for taking beginners into considerations. Even though I'm not one anymore.
Excellent beginning class and project. I just bought my 9 year old granddaughter her first sewing machine, and these are all great tips for the new seamstress. So much information in only 15 minutes! Your teaching style is very easy to follow, and you are super clear.
You are a fantastic teacher, especially for beginners. I have picked up so many great basic sewing pointers watching your videos. So many others skip these, so thank you so much.
Literally realized I could make a roll-up bag for my husband's wood working tools today while I went to buy butter. I hope to get this done by Christmas using some old jeans. Thank you no much!
Thank you! I have just made one for my crochet hooks. My sewing is not perfect, but there is so much satisfaction! And you are ABSOLUTELY GREAT as a teacher, everything was clear for me. THANK YOU VERY MUCH and best regards from Poland :)
First video I've seen from this channel and I absolutely love her way of explaining things as she goes. Great editing, angles, and lighting! As a beginner, this is gold! It's so hard to find great tutorials on CZcams sometimes. I absolutely love this channel! Thanks Laura!!
I started to sew when I was about 9 years old. I have sewn all kinds of things. I am now a piecer, I love to sew quilts because they will always fit! I really like the way you explain things, really clear. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
I love a customizable pattern. Thank you for the video. I am an artist and just started learning how to sew, so this is a perfect project for me ☺️ also, thanks for the detailed explanation. It is very helpful
A clever beginner project in many respects! You're a thoughtful teacher. I'm going to teach a couple friends to sew soon. I don't think they'll be making any investments yet, as your viewers have. But, I'm definitely putting this idea in my arsenal. It's a good one!
Hey Laura I just realized this would be perfect for all my crochet hooks and knitting needles. I have a case but they're very small and I have more hooks in the case will hold. This is a wonderful idea thank you.
Hi There, I just discovered your site and am so grateful that I stumbled onto it. You are the BEST teacher and your instructions are clear and concise. Step by step with clear explanations I am definitely going to follow you and try to sew what you are making on your site. I am a beginner. Thank you so much for your input. I wish I could have you as my mentor in person. (The only thing is we use metric here in Europe not inches). Regards from Sweden
I made one for paint brushes years ago, with no tutorial, but amazingly I made it like this. I'm glad you made this video because I can share it with friends who were curious as to how I made mine. I think I confused them a bit with my instruction, yours is much clearer and detailed. Thank you. :D
Hello Laura. Just to thank you for another easy to follow tutorial. I wonder if you would consider doing a video on how to make a batwing pillow? Thanks again.
I have made these for crochet hooks and knitting needles. I also like using D rings with the strap to hold it shut. I like the way that you angled the pockets.
Thanks a bunch for your tutorials but the way you sew kinda side to side so that we can see exactly what your doing and how you're doing it is exceptional and of course the project is great!
Could you interface a normal weight cotton instead of using the heavier duck fabric? Your videos are amazing! Thanks for taking the time for all of us.
a 5/8ths gives us room to adjust the item, such as clothing. However, with Quilting, we need the seam allowance to be nice and small and will not be adjusting it:) In this case, the extra allowance is great for strength. Good question

Laura, that diagonal pocket is genius! Great lesson. I’ve been sewing for over 50 years and I learn something new from you every time. Well done.

Thank you, I do try hard to show you(the viewer) how it looks to you. That way you do not have to figure it out upside down :)

I have a question Laura. Do you have someone who help you with the camera? Or do you do everything by yourself? Nice video and info.
I do it all on my own :) write, film, edit, upload, and read and answer all the comments and questions :) thanks for asking
My brain was like ... WAAAA at you sewing from behind your machine. That was totally weird.
it is still weird for me too lol but I want you(the viewer)to see clearly
Excellent video
would this work as is for a roll of just scissors? i have a lot from small to large
also can vinyl be the back fabric?
Great idea
Did the extender table come with your sewing machine or can you order them for other machines?
you can order them to go with your machine. Most machines have this as an extra! but it is well worth it :)
genuis
Why are we using a 5/8ths Sean here but a 1/4 seam in quilting?
a 5/8ths gives us room to adjust the item, such as clothing. However, with Quilting, we need the seam allowance to be nice and small and will not be adjusting it:) In this case, the extra allowance is great for strength. Good question
Great job sewing backwards for the camera.
Were you an elementary school teacher?
No just love to teach!
