Hi, can you help me with my Fromel Mod for GE-7? I have an assembly diagram but the parts don't match, can you help me identify the components and their extracted position?Thank you
I wouldn't say it's a must. It really depends on what else you're using it with and if you're using a noise gate or something like that. My main motivation for doing the mod was to make it as transparent as possible and it does seem a little more 'hi-fi' if that's what you're going for as a clean boost. I'll often use it as a mid-hump at the end of the chain, too and it excels at that.
@@rodsmith2181 actually now i have very low backround noise even though i am mostly playing with high gain. But when they say this pedal is noisy, i think its gonna also boost my "low backround noise" when i boost certain frequencies. I think i need something like silver mxr eq but its also missing the seventh high freq band. I cant decide...
Great job obviously you’re experienced . If you were not explaining etc for video Aprox how long would take you ?? Reason I ask you kinda make it look easy. Because you’re exp. but on CZcams I see this guy giving negative review s on people buying the modded pedals saying you can get the parts for 26 $ it’s dumb to pay 60 for mod service. So that’s only 34 bucks for labor ( which seems very fair ) but yes if it somebody like you it’s a no brainer ,but a no experience Person would probably not be able and/or ruin pedal and a beginner probably few hours. Because it’s super small area and the desolder it very tedious. And I can consider myself intermediate. And seems very tight Thank. Great job
You bring up a really good point! I do have a lot of experience - I was a professional amp tech for several years after many years on the road. Remember any professional needs to make a living wage (so if a true professional is going to charge you $30, they are likely going to view that as about a half hour's worth of labor, just as an example). There are LOTS of advanced hobbyist types and people like me that aren't doing it for a living any more that just enjoy doing it and helping people cause it's just fun. You kind of have to gauge what it's worth to you. For a mod like this, you could source the parts for quite a bit less than what you buy in the kit - what you're paying for is convenience. Check out digikey's website and you will see that finding the parts is a pretty time consuming task. Just like any professional skill, you're paying for time and convenience. You could put a new engine in your own car, but how long would it take you? Soldering is like anything else, it takes time to develop the skill and I have ruined many a project getting where I am. All that being said, these mod projects are great for building the skill set needed to build/mod/repair pedals or any other electronics. And pedals are relatively cheap compared to a lot of other electronic devices. And keep in mind I'm not getting into surface mount technology at all, that a whole different ball game. In short, don't feel ripped off by paying for a professional's time if it's something you don't want to tackle yourself. And if you do want to take on these projects, just go into it knowing you may well ruin a pedal or two along the way, but it's a huge amount of fun!
@@rodsmith2181 thanks. That’s what I thought to me it’s totally worth somebody doing and I’m intermediate I would never do it. It look s like a. 2 hour plus. Maybe 3 for me. So the guy saying This wrong he basically bashing companies doing it. Like I said 100 percent if we’re good at it but it’s not a beginner project unless you wanted to learn. And had the time. That’s different. Thanks Andy
should be no need to mod the newer versions from everything i have read. i have 2 and they are older through-hole style. i modded my first one in like 2007 using monte allum mod kit and it took care of the hiss and was a major improvement. i plan to do an XTS mod to my other one. i did a side by side and the one i plan to mod next is as quieter or even quieter than the one i modded in 2007. the modded one had different ICs. so at some point Boss changed the components even in the through-hole versions. saved me some dough :)

is it really that hissy to make the mod a must ?
