Just picked one up, hope it's the perfect one I've been looking for.. Looks like it may be. Thanks for your time and the review 😎👍
Watched this review few days ago and just received mine. Love it thanks for the review!
After using it for a couple weeks, I think this light is the finest EDC/EDU product on the market. Build quality. Power. Run time. Beam (not too floody, not too throwy). UI. Simplicty. Really water-poof (with internal charging). Great looks. It has it all for under $80. IMO. Without a tail switch it's not 100% tacticool, but for me that's no big deal.
I've had the e35r since a week before Halloween and it's been great. Walking the dog, light up the yard, stuff in the basement. It's a phenomenal light. You can't go wrong with this light unless you hate having to unscrew it to charge it.
Well it depends on the battery life I guess. How is the battery?
@@wtfdraakje 1-1.5h on 3000 lumen mode and „normal” lifetime on middle modes, like 6-9h probably
Great review, thanks! Seems like one advantage to charging the battery itself (without the flashlight) is that you could be using the light while charging a spare at home or off a USB power bank.
Just ordered mine! Thanks for the review.
Should have waited for black friday
Great review, love the brass details.
Very very good platform very nice light looks like it's well constructed great engineering thank you for sharing 👍
I like the fact that the charging port isn't on the outside - its better protected. The cap on my MH12 was always coming off and getting filled with crud. Hope more companies go for a protected charging port.
I totally agree with that.
These charging port covers will eventually fail.
I don't like them.
Yes.
Great b-roll shots!
Awesome review! very comprehensive!
Thank you!
As an EDC light it doesn't
need a tail switch.
I think that charging ports are a weak point and that they will
fail eventually.
I have 4 Nitecores that have
charging ports and I don't
normally use them
I just charge the batteries in the appropriate charger.
This is a brilliant light
in more ways than one.
It is almost exactly the same size
as the Nitecore E4K and I prefer
the Fenix E35 to the E4K as it has lockout and a lanyard hole.
My E4K burned a hole in the holster, you have to unscrew the
battery cap 1/2 a turn to be safe.
Thanks for the review. Looks like a really solid light. Love the lack of step-down on the high mode.
However, can anyone tell me the exact internal diameter of the battery tube - the Fenix 21700s are apparently 21.5mm wide, but quite a few others are wider - up to 21.8mm, and I'd like to know if they'll fit, so I'm not limited to Fenix cells only!
In case it helps anyone, just found out that apparently the battery tube of the E35 V3.0 has an internal diameter of just over 22mm, so most brands of 21700 should fit.
Awesome review. I film my ultramarathons and was looking for a good handheld light to use to light up the trails during the night sections, as my 450 lumen headlamp wasn't cutting it. I have a 1150 lumen Olight S2R II which is decent, but I'm still thinking I could go brighter. Your review helped me choose the Fenix and I can wait to try it out this weekend!
Hey !! You got me really into gear and reviews, id like to start a channel myself, I like your video style and the direction of your videos. All that being said I have no experience with videography or shooting (but I learn fast). I have 2 decent phones for capturing video and I have a Logitech 920 pro, Any suggestions on free software or at least where you would start in my position. THANKS!!
I started with Microsoft movie maker then went to Pinnacle Studio. I eventually graduated to Adobe CC.
My first CZcams videos were shot on my iPhone but didn’t like that process so I bought a Panasonic GH5 and never looked back. I have a rental company where I rent lights to film productions so lighting was always just there for me. My advice is to shoot with whatever gear you have now and upgrade a little at a time.
e35 vs tk16 edc carry? which would be best for sleek edc carry?
My battery doesn’t show blue when fully charged it shows green?

Now I bought this fenix for the first time
I'm afraid I'll give a lot of money here later
@@mekanizma same here 🤣
I've got one of these but the light is too yellow. I'd much prefer a whiter light. I like Fenix, is there something you'd suggest please?
Great job. You should review some Ace Beams. I have a couple of them and they are fantastic.
Hi mate i want your advise im confused about what light i want to get i have now sonfirm sp31 v2 .and convoy s2 sst40. And i want to get good quality and reliable flashlight my choises are (fenix.e35v3/PD36R/e39r/ld30) ( wuben c3.)(nitecore mh12 v2/e4k/ec23).jetbeam ko-02. Hope you will advise me thanks.
Those are all widely different types of lights. Do you want USB charging on the light? Do you want throw, flood, both? Narrow it down a little and it will make it easier to help you
Is this flashlight compatible with 18650 protected battery?
Nice review and great flashlight, only pocket clip is easily to remove comparing to my PD40R.
How long does the battery last in strobe ? Thx !
Show de lanterna. Um canhão de luz.
Famosa no Brasil.
I purchased the E35 V3.0 about a year ago, 3 weeks ago it failed me, the light went completely dead, not even the battery check light worked.
I returned it to Fenix & they replaced it with a brand new light, (still in package). I just opened the new one to check it, unbelievably, it is not functioning properly.
The brightness level memory function does not work, it goes right to lowest level every time I turn it off, regardless of where I left it at last use.
The strobe function is also not working properly, you must hold the button down & keep your thumb on it, or it turns right off.
*UPDATE
I just found out, Fenix had downgraded this flashlight.
I checked their site, they NOW say this light has no memory, even though my old one did, as does the one on this review. They say nothing about the downgrade on their site, nor do they mention the strobe function changes.
I have the E35 V3 and the manual reads that there is no memory and automatically goes to eco mode
@@johnnycruz7633 The first ones that came out had memory though, I bought one on the day they were released, it had memory & strobe stayed on without having to hold the button down. Fenix just told me last month they changed the functions because people complained about the light turning on in their pocket.
That can’t be the the reason though, the light has an option to deactivate (turn-on) to prevent that, at least the original one I had did.
I think they changed it because of a design flaw.
Mine died on me for no apparent reason after less than a year of ownership with very light use, I never dropped it once.
The guy in this video even shows/says it stays on strobe & has memory. 4:17 4:25
I ordered a spare battery like the one in the video and when fully charged it indicates a blue light at the top of the battery but the one that came with my flashlight indicates green when fully charged. Why two different fully charged colours for the exact same batteries ?
Any answers
i bought this flash light and never again i use any other ones , compact super bright and rechargeable
Thanks for video.
How do you judge the tint of this flashlight?
Many Fenix lights I've seen with SST40 leds have a greenish tint on the low/mid levels.
However, I have never seen an SST70 led
Still a little greenish at lower levels.
@@ChrispyThings Thanks for the reply.
But is it something acceptable or is it a monster of green :-)? how much I wish Fenix make neutral versions of their lights .. or at least 5000 K versions.

Which flashlight would be better in your opinion: the PD36R or the E35 V3.0?
Which one has a warmer light? Which has the longer beam (turbo, 5-10 minutes)?
It's not even worth comparing. PD36R hands down. But if you want a slightly better beam profile and higher lumens, the new Nitecore MH12s is better. I have both
@@aggaviriyo790 pd36r is what i have and i love it. i also have the original ue35 which was 1000 lumens but more of a softer light color, the pd36r has a really white almost bluish color to the hotspot
Is the clip reversible by flipping the tube around?
do you think it is better than tk35ue ?
For outdoor/hiking use, PD36R, PD40R or E series? thoughts?
PD36R or E35R to me. I have both and it comes down to which switch type you like and that's it
I've hiked with the PD40R V2 in pitch darkness more than a few times now. The beam is perfect to look ahead on the trail(bears, snakes) and the flood is just enough to cover the trail (well lit). Get the PD40R ,You'l love it.
Thanks for the video, I love Fenix lights. The side switch and charging would not work for me , my PD36R is perfect but Id love to have the 3k lumens.
There is actually a pd series flashlight that has 3k lumens
Pretty sure its the pd40
Craig, get the TK16 V2.0. 3k lumens, tail switch, USB-C charging on the battery itself
I work security 3rd shift and trying to compare this light and the olight warrior 3 which one would you choose?
This one is made fire everyday carry. The Warrior 3 is more tactical focused. It all depends on your intended use for a light
I have trouble choosing between Fenix E35 V3 and Fenix PD36R, can you please give me an advice, which one would you pick?
Same here
Those are totally different lights. What are you looking for specifically?
@@MemphisMojo15s I think I already found that, Purchased PD36R and I am really satisfied.
@@MamukaAsatiani nice. I love the PD36R. I also bought the PD36TAC. It's awesome

OK, so, does it truly stay at 3000 lm for over an hour or does it start at 3000 lm for like two minutes and then drop down to 1100 for an hour? Which is it? I know you said the graph stepped down pretty soon so it seems to me that it will not support 3000 lm for over an hour. Is this correct?
I did step down test.
Do when I say it steps down from turbo, that means it’s stepping down from 3000 lumens to high mode.
I put all of the times in this video.
Thanks for watching

Nice n awesome torch💖👍
Im having a hard time deciding which to get.. This or PD36R.. Help please!
PD36R for sure.
Hi, if you compare this with Nitecore E4K, which one has wider projection and less hotspot?
The E4K has a wider beam profile while this has a smaller hotspot from what I remember.
I’ll go for E4K then! Thanks, man!
Is the tail magnetic?
Thanks for the great video. Always do enjoy your reviews!
As for flashlight... I don't understand that lumens race. The more lumens you get, the lower runtime it perfoms. In my experience, 800 lumens is more than enough for EDC. And you can keep pocket friendly dimensions within 18650 size.
Sales. Higher lumens looks better on paper.
Also you have modes to choose
So like with bike lights (I'm a cyclist), it's not so much the max output that you look for (which can obviously be nice in some situations), but the next step or two down and the runtimes. For example, I have a bike light that has a 1250 lumen "turbo" mode, but it'll also do 950 lumens for nearly 3 hours - which when I bought the particular light, nothing else was in the same ballpark at that price. I just bought a Fenix HM65R headlamp not because of it's 1400 max lumens, but because it'll do 400 lumens for 22 hours.
Between this one and Nitecore e4k, which one is better in your opinion? I'm looking for the one that can run at 1000+ lumens constantly without any drop.
Fenix TK-22 V2 was my choice, 15 min at 1600 lumens (before rampdown) with good flood and a good hotspot out to 425M.
You will probably not find better runtimes at this power without going into the 200$+ range of flashlights
@@reahs4815 Fenix PD36R ... $100

Why dpes yours have memory and mine does not have memory ? And on the manual it states no memory
Do you have v3?
Can someone give me a link for the Teenage Mutant ninja turtles he used to have in the back?
Are there people who prefer non deep carry clips? Why isn't every EDC item in existence deep carry?
I've thought about this a lot and I think there's a reason for there to have a non-deep pocket carry clip. I think if you need to access your flashlight or your knife quickly the more of the device is sticking out of your pocket, the easier it is to grab out in a hurry or in a panic that's just my two cents. I have some deep pocket clips on knives and they not as simple to get to and deploy as something with a non-deep pocket clip.
I'm more of a tacticool guy so I'd never go for deep carry. Bullrider is correct.
Does that mean turbo can be used only if very close to 100% charged up ? if say lil less than that it won't kick into turbo ?
I don’t understand the question.
You can still use turbo if it’s not at 100%
@@ChrispyThings I gues you answered my question . Does it shut off at turbo pretty quickly because of heating ? Maybe to lower setting ?
Just ordered one which i'll be using for my forest walks in the dark for a minimum of 2 hours a day. I've been using a shitty 40 lumen headlamp and my smartphone for months so i'm excited!
I think you'll be impressed. Just scrap the lousy belt sheath and use the clip. Always.

Hopely get one soon
hello, from what you show, my ledlenser mh5 shines better with 400 lumens than the one with 1000
Tail switch would make it even more awesome
I wanted a tail stand EDC, willing to give up the tail switch. Shopped high and low to find the best combo of features. E35 seems to hit most the marks.
Just ordered it . I like that battery is directly charged thru its own C type port no charger needed and the light can be used won't be out of commision if you have another battery . Didn't like that it has no tail switch .
If you need a rear switch, get the TK16 V2.0 3k lumens
I don't know where this graph at 5:59 comes from, but it's quite misleading because the scale of the Y-axis is not equally distributed. Therefore it seems that the light in high mode drops slowly but in fact it goes from 1200 lumen to about 500 lumen in 2 hours. I would like to see a review on how long the light lasts in each mode.
It came from the Fenix website. And I’d say it needs to be more accurate and show actual numbers to when the lumens drop off
I just ordered one and seeing how that 3000 lumens stepped down so fast when the chart said 1.25 minute run time at 3000 I was deceived. But Now I know it only steps down after it gets hot not because it drained the battery so it can be turned up to max, many times on a single charge.
It lasts longer than most lights on turbo from what I’ve seen
I have the torch from 2 days - great build quality, great battery life but lack focusing system like led lensers. My old led lenser P6 have better light output in 200 lumens than the fenix with 450 lumens. Otherwise it’s a great edc flashlight for the price
How does this compare to the Thrunite T2 and Olight Seeker 2.
The olight seeker 2 is not as good as the t2 or e35. After 2 minutes it drops from 3200 lumens to only 600. The t2 stays over a thousand on high and turbo even after stepping down. Only because the battery is low that it goes under 1000. The e35 also does well. Don't know the specs on how much it steps down, but from experience with it, it barely fades at all on any setting.
T2 has more spill, while the e35 has a bit more throw. Both are pure or mostly flood lights. But they get hot around the head on turbo. The specs given on the Thrunite for run time isn't accurate based on someone's test somewhere online. Runtime is very similar for both.
Based on performance I can't really decide. If you want pure flood and still over 100 meters of throw the Thrunite would be your choice. For a bit more throw go with fenix.
These two are at the top for edc. Very bright and good runtime. Tail switches would be a good when they get updated. Whoever does that will take the lead, unless someone else comes up with something better.
Many brands still have to transition to 21700 batteries for their flagship high performance lights.
The comment above is slightly accurate. It steps own from turbo because of the heat. You can pull use turbo a lot. Turbo can be used after it stepped down too. Just needs a second to cool. The 1200 lumen mode is what most should use. Olight turbo mode isn’t a main mode. It’s an in a pinch mode. That being said. I like the ipx 8, tail switch, and magnetic base personally. Lights are lights at the end of the day. Not too long ago people would brag about 200 lumens...and a ten pound mag lite...
@@one4all885 you are kidding about the olight right?
Agree. Wish the E35 had a tail switch.
I've started liking the side button only because I am able to keep my thumb on it at all times. I did, however, buy a LD30 with 2 buttons and I love that little light.
Use caution with this light. It has turned on in my pocket (with Lockout Mode activated) on several occasions. Yesterday, it once again turned on in my jacket pocket while driving, it melted hole through my pocket liner! Luckily, I felt the heat and pulled it out before something much worse might have happened. Two messages sent to Fenix remain unanswered thus far.
I’ve never had that issue. Looks like you might have a dud?

I’d love a customizable option.
How would you rate this against the pd40r v2.0?
As an edc I like this better. But I really love that mechanical dial on the pd40r. BOTH need a tail switch!
For night time fishing trips which would you recommend? And why does the turbo last longer on the pd40r v2 if they are running the same LED?

Many thanks for that truthful revelation at 5:58 of the output curves. Yet again, this illustrates marketing fraud in the flashlight world: associating a 3000 lumen output with a 1h15m runtime is sickening, regardless of Fenix' asterixed caveats.
Well thats not on Fenix (Diamond Black, Maglite, Streamlight and others) but on that crappy ANSI FL 1-2009, which states: runtime is the time when lumens falls to 10% of the initial value measured after 30 sec. So 3000 lm means 3000 to 300 in 1.1 hours, and as graph suggests, majority of the time 3000 lm actually level off around 500 - 450 lm

@@KenshinPhoenix definitely everyone has there preference, would you prefer ace beam over most flashlights ? @@_Depp122 Fenix are definitely good quality, and I've not really had issues with them or Acebeam to date. I like my Acebeams overall but I hate how their turbo modes are employed. Most other brands have been hit and miss, some good models and some really bad ones. I have a Jetbeam tactical one and it has the best thermal regulation of any torch I've ever had. Even on turbo it stays cool, while my Klarus ones of the same output get hot real fast, but still have respectable step downs and they happen so minutely that you barely notice it. I've had other Jetbeam models with the switches failing quickly though, and same for Klarus. I like Thrunite too, but they have lousy weak clips that fall off I've found. Not a huge issue until you lose it because of it. A few Nitecores I've had have had the UI go haywire to the point of being unusable.
I just really dislike the lights that advertise 10000 lumens etc. and then after 30 seconds drop down to 2000 lumens or something like that. It's bordering on false advertising and is so dishonest that I don't want to support their company. It's not so bad when they are clear about it in the specs at least, but many times they just hide it. I'd just buy a smaller and cheaper 3000 lumen torch that can stay at 2000 lumens indefinitely. I tend to avoid the bad lights these days by waiting for reviews and watching/reading many lol. I can't say I have a preferred brand overall, and don't have enough from every brand to be sure, but I'm getting there lol. I haven't found my perfect light yet, but if I had the ability I'd make my own just how I want it! Some youtubers on here have crazy collections, like they could start their own shop of second hand torches lol.
Thank you very much for a very informative and thorough review as usual, but I'm not impressed with this light and question the output. I have a 2,000 Lumen TK35UE Fenix light that will light up that roadway much better and my PD35 1,000 Lumen has almost the same look as this one. Maybe in person it will be better, but it didn't like 3K to me.
Possibly my camera settings made it look a lot dimmer than it should, and definitely brighter than the original PD35.
I’ve had to bump my camera iso to 6400 just to do these lights justice. My Panasonic GH5 kinda sucks in the dark.
@@ChrispyThings Thanks for your reply, I figured that the camera doesn't do it justice. You have the best reviews and are one of my favorite channels. Keep up the great work!
Thanks man I appreciate that. I’m still trying to improve my content so a better camera that can handle these night shots better is in the woks. Hopefully it’ll do the flashlight tests justice.
After I discovered Sofirn I would never pay again for a Fenix!
It's a great flashlight. Do yourself a favor and get one!
Coz nobody is saying it, imma say it. It doesn't necesserally need a tail switch because it's compact enough
If they're smart, they're gonna make another version like a PD36R but with 3000+ lumens and "tactical" or sum'
It may not “need” it, but I want it.
No tail switch, no sale. I don't need to fiddle with it. I need to pull it out and hit the button without fumbling or looking for the side button.
What deep pocket flashlight with tail switch you would you recommend?
@@davidd9325 Right now I have a Fenix UC35. Been using for at least 5 years. Works well. EDC and on the job. Even dropped it in a bucket of hot boiler water and its still performing.
I think I'm tempted to buy their latest but they are not cheap. I find "Good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good.".
YMMV
Temp is quite hot. That's a worry.
It needs a tail switch
look at the nitecore mh25s, it's a beast.
I dont understand why so many people want tail switches. I don't ever hold my flashlight like that
Less fumbling in the dark for me. I can instantly locate a tail switch vs searching for the side switch with my thumb.
Chase, it's easier to find the switch 🙂
FENIX makes great lights. Mostly well thoughout.....all but for ONE annoying aspect. You have to cycle through Turbo to get to ECO or LOW from MED or H. Why not make Turbo--2 button clicks?? Take it out of the loop. I have the TK16...
Though, maybe their thinking was in forcing you to cycle through Turbo the access is quicker...."more tactical". Tthough on EDC oriented lights like the E35 v3 that isn't necessary....so for the E series ights make Turbo 2 button clicks...for 2023 models. :)
