    After using it for a couple weeks, I think this light is the finest EDC/EDU product on the market. Build quality. Power. Run time. Beam (not too floody, not too throwy). UI. Simplicty. Really water-poof (with internal charging). Great looks. It has it all for under $80. IMO. Without a tail switch it's not 100% tacticool, but for me that's no big deal.

    As an EDC light it doesn't
    need a tail switch.
    I think that charging ports are a weak point and that they will
    fail eventually.
    I have 4 Nitecores that have
    charging ports and I don't
    normally use them
    I just charge the batteries in the appropriate charger.
    This is a brilliant light
    in more ways than one.
    It is almost exactly the same size
    as the Nitecore E4K and I prefer
    the Fenix E35 to the E4K as it has lockout and a lanyard hole.
    My E4K burned a hole in the holster, you have to unscrew the
    battery cap 1/2 a turn to be safe.

    Thanks for the review. Looks like a really solid light. Love the lack of step-down on the high mode.
    However, can anyone tell me the exact internal diameter of the battery tube - the Fenix 21700s are apparently 21.5mm wide, but quite a few others are wider - up to 21.8mm, and I'd like to know if they'll fit, so I'm not limited to Fenix cells only!

    • @alexvalenti4866
      @alexvalenti4866 Před 3 lety +4

      In case it helps anyone, just found out that apparently the battery tube of the E35 V3.0 has an internal diameter of just over 22mm, so most brands of 21700 should fit.

  • @GeneralGeorgeS.PattonJr.

    I purchased the E35 V3.0 about a year ago, 3 weeks ago it failed me, the light went completely dead, not even the battery check light worked.
    I returned it to Fenix & they replaced it with a brand new light, (still in package). I just opened the new one to check it, unbelievably, it is not functioning properly.
    The brightness level memory function does not work, it goes right to lowest level every time I turn it off, regardless of where I left it at last use.
    The strobe function is also not working properly, you must hold the button down & keep your thumb on it, or it turns right off.
    *UPDATE
    I just found out, Fenix had downgraded this flashlight.
    I checked their site, they NOW say this light has no memory, even though my old one did, as does the one on this review. They say nothing about the downgrade on their site, nor do they mention the strobe function changes.

      @@johnnycruz7633 The first ones that came out had memory though, I bought one on the day they were released, it had memory & strobe stayed on without having to hold the button down. Fenix just told me last month they changed the functions because people complained about the light turning on in their pocket.
      That can’t be the the reason though, the light has an option to deactivate (turn-on) to prevent that, at least the original one I had did.
      I think they changed it because of a design flaw.
      Mine died on me for no apparent reason after less than a year of ownership with very light use, I never dropped it once.
      The guy in this video even shows/says it stays on strobe & has memory. 4:17 4:25

      So like with bike lights (I'm a cyclist), it's not so much the max output that you look for (which can obviously be nice in some situations), but the next step or two down and the runtimes. For example, I have a bike light that has a 1250 lumen "turbo" mode, but it'll also do 950 lumens for nearly 3 hours - which when I bought the particular light, nothing else was in the same ballpark at that price. I just bought a Fenix HM65R headlamp not because of it's 1400 max lumens, but because it'll do 400 lumens for 22 hours.

    How does this compare to the Thrunite T2 and Olight Seeker 2.

    • @one4all885
      @one4all885 Před 3 lety +1

      The olight seeker 2 is not as good as the t2 or e35. After 2 minutes it drops from 3200 lumens to only 600. The t2 stays over a thousand on high and turbo even after stepping down. Only because the battery is low that it goes under 1000. The e35 also does well. Don't know the specs on how much it steps down, but from experience with it, it barely fades at all on any setting.
      T2 has more spill, while the e35 has a bit more throw. Both are pure or mostly flood lights. But they get hot around the head on turbo. The specs given on the Thrunite for run time isn't accurate based on someone's test somewhere online. Runtime is very similar for both.
      Based on performance I can't really decide. If you want pure flood and still over 100 meters of throw the Thrunite would be your choice. For a bit more throw go with fenix.
      These two are at the top for edc. Very bright and good runtime. Tail switches would be a good when they get updated. Whoever does that will take the lead, unless someone else comes up with something better.
      Many brands still have to transition to 21700 batteries for their flagship high performance lights.

    • @DedHedJosh
      @DedHedJosh Před 3 lety

      The comment above is slightly accurate. It steps own from turbo because of the heat. You can pull use turbo a lot. Turbo can be used after it stepped down too. Just needs a second to cool. The 1200 lumen mode is what most should use. Olight turbo mode isn’t a main mode. It’s an in a pinch mode. That being said. I like the ipx 8, tail switch, and magnetic base personally. Lights are lights at the end of the day. Not too long ago people would brag about 200 lumens...and a ten pound mag lite...

      @@_Depp122 Fenix are definitely good quality, and I've not really had issues with them or Acebeam to date. I like my Acebeams overall but I hate how their turbo modes are employed. Most other brands have been hit and miss, some good models and some really bad ones. I have a Jetbeam tactical one and it has the best thermal regulation of any torch I've ever had. Even on turbo it stays cool, while my Klarus ones of the same output get hot real fast, but still have respectable step downs and they happen so minutely that you barely notice it. I've had other Jetbeam models with the switches failing quickly though, and same for Klarus. I like Thrunite too, but they have lousy weak clips that fall off I've found. Not a huge issue until you lose it because of it. A few Nitecores I've had have had the UI go haywire to the point of being unusable.
      I just really dislike the lights that advertise 10000 lumens etc. and then after 30 seconds drop down to 2000 lumens or something like that. It's bordering on false advertising and is so dishonest that I don't want to support their company. It's not so bad when they are clear about it in the specs at least, but many times they just hide it. I'd just buy a smaller and cheaper 3000 lumen torch that can stay at 2000 lumens indefinitely. I tend to avoid the bad lights these days by waiting for reviews and watching/reading many lol. I can't say I have a preferred brand overall, and don't have enough from every brand to be sure, but I'm getting there lol. I haven't found my perfect light yet, but if I had the ability I'd make my own just how I want it! FENIX makes great lights. Mostly well thoughout.....all but for ONE annoying aspect. You have to cycle through Turbo to get to ECO or LOW from MED or H. Why not make Turbo--2 button clicks?? Take it out of the loop. I have the TK16...
    Though, maybe their thinking was in forcing you to cycle through Turbo the access is quicker...."more tactical". Tthough on EDC oriented lights like the E35 v3 that isn't necessary....so for the E series ights make Turbo 2 button clicks...for 2023 models. :)
