Can I just say, in addition to the video being really informative and helpful, you also have a very relaxing voice to just listen to. :)
Very helpful! Thanks, Jack. Growing one along a brick wall. Gonna start it in a pot!
It’s my favourite too, the Autumn display is gorgeous.
Extremely good advice about caring for it.Great video!!💪🏻🌻🍂🍁The tip of using the squashed up light plastic pots for drainage is brilliant 😆
Brilliant Video, very nicely put,and understood everything, thank you for being so clear and not to fast..👏👍👏👍👏👍
Great video! 👌🏼
I enjoy the look of the plant in the fall. It grows in the wild here in SC, and can be very invasive.
No, that is Parthenocissus quinquefolia. This one is introduced from China, beware.
Love the Virginia creeper! Great channel 👌
Note: this is not our native Parthenocissus quinquefolia. Use that instead!!
Be nice to see the growth next season
Just acquired a couple of lengths of tendrils carrying wonderful red leaves which I will propagate, hoping they will root before the leaves fall. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you for the great video. It was long enough to give me the information I needed and short enough to let me plant my Virginia creeper. Good to know that they are quite vigorous. I have in my backyard that I didn't grow. Probably took root from a seed in bird dropping. I am going to uproot it and plant it at the bottom of a dead tree. Cheers !
Thank you, just about to plant my a Virginia Creeper👌💕
Thanks very helpful information for a novice gardener..!
Great job planting plants outside of their native range! Hope that plant spreads and takes over your garden!
Love virginia creeper ,great autumn colour. Your palm looks a bit sickly ,it could do with a feed.
Not your native Parthenocissus quinquefolia.
Great information thanks
I've got a Virginia creeper that's around 8 years old growing along the top of my patio doors. it takes some regular trimming in the summer but looks beautiful from inside my living room. I've found that I can take cuttings by poking a growing tip through one of the drain holes in the bottom of a pot and filling it with compost. After a month or so it can be cut from its mother plant.
Do you have to cut it down every year please,
@@carolinesmith5297 I cut it back close to the main stem. In spring it grows back very quickly.
Mine grows very long but doesn’t thicken out in width, nothing like the regular Virginia. Creeper I have in the other corner of my yard.
Would cutting some of the length off encourage it to grow “out” at all?
I’m learning more and more all the time but there’s loads that I struggle to find answers for!
Cheers
@@RichRobinson I don't know why that would be, you could take a few cuttings from the bushy one?
Why... I've been fighting this plant for years and it won't go away 😭 it keeps me up at night knowing it's slowly killing all my trees n plants.
Thank you.
It's beautiful. How long did it take that plant to grow that height? I'm asking because I just ordered two and plan to plant outside. Thank You
Tried stratifying them for 3 months placed in small pot but no luck
I have one on my wall can I use cuttings to plant it elsewhere.. If yes.. Does it go in water or straight to soil
Thank you for this helpful video. Can this climber be grown indoors, say in a conservatory as an example?
Will it freeze over the winter in the container?
i fucking love this plant i finally got it
Where I purchase this plant seed
Hi. I had what looks like a virginia creeper sprout in one of my pota, i haven't seen any plant near my home. I was hoping to sprout a passion fruit, but app is telling me is Virginia creeper. This is very odd
Hello, I purchased a none toxic Porcelain Vine earlier this year, but its turned out to be a Parthenocissus henryana. Do you happen to know of the berries produced are poisonous to humans as I have young children who of course play in my garden. Really love the foilage but if its poisonous I'll have to get rid of it 😌 thanks in advance.
Both non-native invasives.
Hi Jack. I have one of these creepers and love it and is covering my whole fence. However, I don’t know if I need to cut it right back or leave it. My plan is to hide the fence so worry about cutting it back. Can you help please?
You can cut it back or you can leave it, its unlikely you're gonna kill it, theyre pretty resilient
how do you keep it in check when birds eat the seeds and drop them elsewhere?
Put a diaper on the birds bottom..
I thought they should be planted in the ground! How long do they last in pots? Interesting!
I totally agree with you, I'd imagine if you want it to grow at it's best, it should definitely be in the ground!
@@EireFirst2024 so, here's the deal! Genius idea, lol! I have lattice around my deck but still not enough privacy! I bought some fake ivy, not cheap to buy either, just to hang where the neighbor's kitchen window facing our deck can be more private! So....if I buy two virginia creepers, place one on each side of lattice, let it climb and train to cover lattice, then when they finally die, I will have the dried vine left!! I think it would look great, then add a little greenery here and there or crystals etc! Hope I did not bore you, lol!!!!
@@dianehansma1725 sorry....... I nodded off there.... What happened at the end 😂😂😂
Only joking, fair play for making the effort & explaining your 'genius' idea 🙂
@@EireFirst2024 lol, it's ok to nod off....I was kidding about the genious part....but for me it will work for what I want! I did forgot to mention that we have a thick layer of crushed gravel around our raised deck, so I can't plant them in the ground......now it probably makes sense.....you can wake up now, lol!!!
@@dianehansma1725 ha ha ah fair play to you for the tips/information, & don't mind what they say - I believe you're a genius 😂👍👍😀
Any updates, Jack? How did it get on?
Looks amazing but good god they grow really fast.
Mine looks like its dying?! Help
For the algorithm.
Where is the sub titles for the profoundly Deaf.
That doesn't look like virginia creeper, it looks like it's invasivs cousin.
It’s Parthenocissus henryana - Chinese Virginia creeper - it’s smaller, less vigorous counterpart!
@@JackShilley did you grow it from seed? i have some which are a couple of months old i have grown from seed. Just curious at what age i should put into final planting spot in the garden.
This is chinise virgina creeper wich is less fast growing
I am deathly allergic to Virginia creeper and it is very invasive it will grow in my berries where I HAVE to tear it out and I invariably get it somewhere on my body and then am MISERABLE for about 10 days. I hope none of your family is allergic to it.
I hear that the berries are toxic
