- Pakistan Explorer delves into the past in one of the most horrific tragedies in contemporary mountaineering history in order to fret out the truth. K2 Disaster 2008 is probably the most widely investigated mountaineering accident with more more than 12 books written on the subject. This discussion sheds light on the 'abandoned and the forgotten' heroes and exposes the blatant lies told by some of the survivors.

I am not someone who is immersed in the mountaineering hobby, however, I am enjoying your videos very much. You are very articulate and present the information without apparent bias. I hope you enjoy making these videos and I look forward to watching more. Thank you very much for your research
I can’t get enough of these stories. Please do more!! Great job! TY
You can watch this video in my channel as well
Just to clarify, there were 4 people trying to get Dren down - two other Serbian climbers, Jehan Baig and Fredrik. Fredrik did have a camera and film some of what was happening, but he wasn't just filming there ))) Jehan was probably suffering from high altitude sickness because he changed his mind about whether he would help a couple of times. When he fell, he almost got Fredrik with him, first by bumping into him and then by pulling the rope which was attached to the harness. So, it was completely understandable why Fredrik was panicking.
Great video! A small correction though, Fredrik Sträng climbed with the Americans, but he's actually Swedish, our first 7 summiter!
Excellent job. Very clear explanation. Thanks x bringing up these dramatic stories of the heights. Best wishes & Greetings from Chile!
Watching from Southern California US
A good recitation of the facts, without sensationalism or unnecessary editorializing. K2 fascinates me. It is a terrifying mountain.
If I were to anthropomorphic K2, I would say it is evil ...
Watching from Warsaw. Facts are generally known, but I haven’t seen some of pictures before, so it was useful, waiting for the next chapter.
Watching from canada ontario
Hey from America. Great video. I subscribed.
Watching from Phoenix. Fascinating content, great story telling. 👏
Great video, it’s very nice to listen to you! Keep it up 👍🏻
Albury, NSW, Australia! Really enjoy the clarity of your work. Thanks!
Watching from Karachi. Been following your stories since great Ali Sadpara and John Snorri went missing.
Great job - can't wait to see the next part! Watching from Butte, Montana👍🏼
Watching from Chicago 👍
Fredrik Sträng who tried to help the serbian climber is actually Swedish, not american.
I could tell just from the umlaut!
But with the American team.
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing this great video.🙂
Basically, everyone broke their own turn around time rule. Often fatal.
subscribed and notifications turned on. Eagerly waiting for the next part
There is a nice documentary with actual footage on Wilco’s YT channel (K2- triumph and tragedy.. something like that). You described it all pretty well. Looking forward to more facts. Thank you!
watching from Germany, great!
Watching from Adelaide Australia. Great video
Thank you for such a balanced presentation of an event that continues to fascinate and confuse.
Well spoken , well presented
Alberto Zerain, solo climbed... Spain represent. RIP to everyone.
Remaining part?
Thanks for the clear explanations on the events. Some documentary just skip past some details and makes it confusing.
Can you do a video on K2 Polish south face ascent in 1986 and also other ascents of K2 other than Abruzzi spur
Amazing… greeting from Venezuela!! You’re doing great things for mountaineering
August 1st was very late for a summit attempt. I’ll have to check, but I think they had been waiting for an opportunity for close to 2 months.

@Pakistan Explorer
Great Video......Thanks!
When can we expect part 2?
Cheers
from Cairns/Australia
Several videos led me here ultimately... great coverage...

Really appreciate your videos.
Excellent video, but one thing that is always glossed over, including this one, was why they didn't have enough rope at the beginning of the bottleneck. Only in one video did i hear the sherpas put the rope/lines in too early and therefore there wasnt enough to get to the top. This is the event that started everything, yet you rarely hear it discussed.
Of all people to point to- the Sherpas would be the least credible ones to blame for gear malfunction for me.
Just my biased, ill informed opinion. 🙏🏻
@@NavigatorMother usually I would agree but the first group, the Koreans, were tasked with fixing the lines. Their group and their sherpas messed it up royally, which started everything. It's not just on their sherpas but the Korean leader is also responsible
@@GR-bn3xj Thankyou for the needed information. Namaste.
I respect what you are trying to make. You forgot to say that Alberto Zerain reached the summit at 3 p.m because he started his summit push from camp 3 all alone.
The first death was so avoidable and must have been horrible to witness.
And then the man who fell trying to get the body ... 😢😭😱
I’ve watched many videos on this many times, I dont get why the climbers thought a sunny day with no wind was the perfect day for climbing? I would think the ice melt would be very dangerous, especially in the bottleneck. I would want a cold cloudy day to limit ice melt. But what do I know...
Euyurii
I was wondering that too ...
New content!!!!!
Proud of the American team for making a hard but wise decision not to push for the summit.
Extremely hard decision, but as it turned out, the totally correct one.
Not a tad bit late. The summit was reached a good amount of late
So many contant is available in English language at yutube, So plz work in urdu too,
I have been saying climbers wrong my whole life
Was this filmed in Mr. Rogers house?
But great job on videos
It's Wilko's fault. He was the leader and yet he came down alive and ditched his comrades on the mountain.
Strang is Swedish
The moment I finished watching this clip I started looking the guy who told me that "b" is silent in "climber" ...
Why don't they organize so faster climbers go first
Fredrik Sträng is Swedish, not American. He climbed in the international expedition.
520pm wtf.
Fantastic. A guy sitting on a couch. Amazing
Couch sitting is very underrated. 🛋😀👍🏼
Did you want the video made from a summit location?
I am watching from kalam valley.....
Not accurate.
It's kind of funny to start the video by explaining how much material there already is about the incident and then the rest of the video is you clearly not having consumed any of it.. You slide right past any factual information of the events to provide pathetic opinion constantly.
Bhai saab infornation less and acting zyada 👋
Why and how did Dren Mandic fall? There must be footage or photos of the incident, of who was where in the ascent through the bottleneck, was he passing Cecilie Skog, was he allowing her to pass? There are so many different accounts of the accident, I feel this was the harbinger of things to come.
