There is so many things wrong with what you said. We black men and women are not insecure about other people wearing box braids or other style of braids we wear. It’s the double standard that we have an issue with. It’s acceptable and fashionable when people who look like you wear it but we are treated like shit and it’s unacceptable to wear when at school, work or other places. Stop thinking of only yourself and being condescending and understand the struggle black men and women go through on a daily basis just being who we are as a black person.
The thing is we work hard for our culture to be accepted when we go to school there is a possibility we could be sent home when we wear our own cultural hairstyles we risk not getting jobs we even are called ghetto but when y’all started doing it it was trendy it literally got renamed by y’all when we created it and get judged harshly for wearing our own culture. So while we suffer y’all walk away and don’t even care

I’m German and rican, I have African sisters and I wear box braids all the time because my hair needs them. It’s a protective hairstyle. I also know how to box braid. It’s more so the mocking or the attitude towards people. If you’re gonna wear their hairstyle don’t be a dick, y’know? Then again I also grew up in a city mostly populated by people of every race. We’d go to a neighborhood cookout there would be every race at the cookout cause everyone was just chill with each other but it’s mostly the fact more people are racist nowadays and don’t realize it but it’s mainly knowing the culture, my siblings didn’t give a flying fuck if a white person wore box braids bc their hair would fall out anyway if it wasn’t the right hair type FOR box braids. It only really happens when they add a lot of hair + tension. Plus I think that any person (any race) with type 3 hair, maybe at least 2c would be okay. Type 1 hair tends to be fragile just as 4c hair is fragile, just in different ways.
@@darnyoumadedropmycroissant7418you’re really sitting here yapping, black hair is MEANT for braids. So not it’s not fragile in different ways unless it’s damaged. Just because you're a black doesn't mean you know me better. Let me explain something to you because you're probably Young. I find myself having to explain this to very young black people on the constant basis comma because you guys have absolutely no idea about the black American culture going back past 15 years ago.. If you knew the history then you have your answer. You have literally a million types of hairstyles you can easily do with your type of hair. Having black hair is NOT easy. There’s a very limited amount of things you can do with black hair, and what you can do takes a ton of work which in return has created a beautiful culture around it. Box braids was a unique style to show off the beauty of black hair and black women. Out of all the hairstyles you could’ve chosen. This is the one you chose. Please pull your head out of your rear end and use your head. Stop being ignorant.

As a black girl myself(this is my opinion ), it's not that I think it's bad just as long as you don't claim that you invented the hairstyle(looking at you Kim with those Walmart box braids). Also, the braids like cornrows, or box braids can brutally mess up your hair if it is not curly enough and make it fall out!
Just shows that she doesn’t know the “history behind box braids” cause those aren’t even box braids there plats. And we aren’t saying that all types of braids are meant for us because there are types of braid styles that you guys can use (such as French braids and etc.) What is not ok is when y’all claim to know our culture and our history when y’all can care less. the invention of wigs by Egyptian royalty and while this was around 2700 BCE, a white man in 1870’s also invented a front lace wig used to cover up baldness while still having a natural look of hair. although Egyptians (egyptians came in many shades of brown and white a lot like southern or coastal european countries or western asian countries like india) were the first to come up the idea of wigs a white man was the first to come up with lace front wigs. i would give both ethnicities credit for their inventions especially on how big of the impact it has on everyday modern life. not only did women take this invention but so did african americans in the 1900’s. i hope you know that i am not coming for anyone and that i understand why black women adopted this invention because of the troubles they faced because of their skin color or hair type. but we have to understand that our world has been around for a very long time and that every culture and religion has been robbed of the owner ship of an idea or object. i think that anyone and everyone should be able to do what they want as long as they know the history of it and that it won’t effect that person health negatively like women with straight hair that get box braids. i think that it is time to just appreciate everyone and everyone’s culture and learn how to be respectful and open to other people appreciating it.
@@kylie3989 I do not take your comment as you coming for me, but I will urge you to do more research before regurgitating the lies you’ve been fed! First and foremost ANCIENT EGYPTIANS were different shades of BLACK, Not White! The Egyptians that occupy modern day Egypt ARE NOT the original people! They’re of Arab & European decent. The ORIGINAL Arabs are BLACK, not this whited out version you see on TV, but dark black. Europeans have spent thousands of years RAPING and pillaging everywhere they went.. emphasis on RAPING! It is what they did in the Americas with the NATIVE BLACK people that were there, what they did to the Mexicans in Mexico, what they did to the Aboriginals in Australia, same thing in Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, DR,.. you get the point ( they didn’t get everyone everywhere they went, although they surely tried)! Besides even if a “WHITE MAN” created the first lace front, wigs were invented by BLACK EGYPTIANS! He didn’t invent Jack.. what he did was modified someone else’s idea/invention per usual practice of Europeans. @@kylie3989 Oh and BTW the reason why Black women had so many issues in this country regarding our hair wasn’t because all of us couldn’t grow it… it was because everything that was out on the market was for White women, and if you know anything about hair, you’d know that for a Black woman to use products meant for White women destroys our hair! Plus we were forced to fry and dye our hair with chemicals and extreme heat just to be able to compete for jobs to support our families.. plus to try to fit in with our European counterparts to avoid the taunting. From slavery we were taught to be ashamed of our skin color as well as our NATURAL hair! Thankfully, a lot of us are removing that shame and are accepting OUR NATURAL BEAUTY! And I see all of these white people getting braids and next thing you know they are bald. Just don’t do this please.
Black men and women have been thrown out of the work place, not able to go to school to LEARN, called ghetto, ugly, ratchet, so many horrible things. Ya’ll white people sit here and constantly criticize us but then take our art and run with it as if we weren’t KILLED in the past for it. Ya’ll sit here online, even BOLDY in public talk about us. But then take our stuff, make it a "trend" & then claim it as yours. If you were disrespected in the past like us all because of your SKIN, and used protective hairstyles to keep your hair okay would you want someone taking it? NO, and vikings did NOT wear black hairstyles. And it’s sad, because at this point my OWN people are trying to speak on behalf of the whole black community saying that this is okay. @@everyst5030 yea it’s just a braid

Once again no one is even insecure . You really thought u did something 😭😭
Its just because box braids are meant to be a protective hair style made for CURLY HAIR but if a white person who has straight hair does it then it wont be good it’s not a good hairstyle for straight hair since the braids are done tight so straight hair can’t handle it and it ends up falling out and therefore it’s meant for curly hair xx
Ignore the ignorant and live your life. 😂😂😂 Life's too short to waste on stupidity, just do what you want to do. 👍 Love ❤ your braids.
As a black girl I dont think that it's harmful.

As a BW I don't care that you use our style(s), it's when you shame us for it, use it and then claim it! That is the problem I have. I appreciate you admitting you know where it comes from but at the same time you threw shade saying that it was all "your" hair not fake hair and insinuated that all BW wear fake hair in box braids, which is not true! But even if it was, just like it is your prerogative to wear your hair how you want, it is theirs as well. No insecurities here, just truth. But while we are on the subject, name ONE thing that white people created/invented that has been adopted by other cultures/races? Just one... I'll wait.
For real
the invention of wigs by Egyptian royalty and while this was around 2700 BCE, a white man in 1870’s also invented a front lace wig used to cover up baldness while still having a natural look of hair. although Egyptians (egyptians came in many shades of brown and white a lot like southern or coastal european countries or western asian countries like india) were the first to come up the idea of wigs a white man was the first to come up with lace front wigs. i would give both ethnicities credit for their inventions especially on how big of the impact it has on everyday modern life.
not only did women take this invention but so did african americans in the 1900’s.
i hope you know that i am not coming for anyone and that i understand why black women adopted this invention because of the troubles they faced because of their skin color or hair type.
but we have to understand that our world has been around for a very long time and that every culture and religion has been robbed of the owner ship of an idea or object. i think that anyone and everyone should be able to do what they want as long as they know the history of it and that it won’t effect that person health negatively like women with straight hair that get box braids.
i think that it is time to just appreciate everyone and everyone’s culture and learn how to be respectful and open to other people appreciating it.
So again I reiterate, name ONE thing that has been created/invented (NOT STOLEN OR MODIFIED which is modern terms for raping and pillaging) by White people that has been adopted by other cultures/races??? AGAIN, I’ll wait…….
As for me personally, I am mixed race (Black, Native and White to be specific) but I’m “DOMINANTLY” Black!
@@AL_4083 well i can tell that your agreeing with me by stating a more complicated version of my statement “black women having to go through troubles regarding their race and hair” meaning socially and economically…
I might be white but hun…those aren’t no box braids 😭
But i also do agree bc i get dirty looks when i wear braids which i think is unnecessary and ALL races can do anything they want, for example…
Black women & men can wear natural hair
White women & men can wear braids
Asians women & men can wear braids and natural hair down
IT DOES NOT MATTER UR RACE!!! JUST DO WHAT MAKES U HAPPY ❤
White girl here: my mom use to braid my hair like that all the time growing up, esp. leading up to picture days where I'd take them out and have some awesome looking tight curls (much better than my normal half-wave/half-curl frizz-mess). It was a nice heatless curl option since I HATED curlers or any heating tool (including blow dryers). Now I'm all grown up and have discovered diffusers and my natural curl pattern, I still braid my hair, but only use small ones like that just for my bangs or accent pieces since my full head would take waaaay too long.
