I have the stuff, all i need to buy is the pvc pipe, nails & steel net. I always wanted to make this but couldn't. I have a gym next door but still wanna make this. Only thing left is to mix the concrete dust and cement and put it in the mold. Well, it cost me $6 but the bars and setup, I'll it will take more money to actually have it properly.

    3. Use gloves for spray painting 😉 Great video fella. About to do this for my own home gym. Using ANYTHING that I have 2 of at the moment. Water containers, chains, ankle weights... can't wait to get some matching plates on there that are less "live" and behave a bit better when training. As this was 6 months ago, it would be really useful to have an update on how they have coped this past year. Thanks again.

So far they are doing great! No cracks or chips to speak of. The 50's were really chunky. I'm in the process of trying to make some 16.5 inch 45 pound weight plates at the moment that look more like an olympic 45 pound plate. Video to come shortly!

Use a regular cooler tub for sizes 45 lbs or more. Its plastic so concrete does not stick, its water proof and wont leak, and is about 17 inch diameter.

First person ive seen use a mask while doing the process. Way to be safe and look out for your health. Also what kind of squat rack is that? Looks really solid for its size, I only have a small space and that thing looks perfect.

I'm planning on doing this same project, but will be using:
A 14" diameter sonotube for my 45lb weights, making them just under 3" in diameter.
A 12" yields a 25lb weight that's just over 3" in diameter, so they'll be close in width, just not as big around
An 8" for 15lb (if I want to make those)
An 8" for 10lb at just under 3" in diameter.
Once I'm finished pouring them, I'll wait about a month to cure and dry, and then put several coats of black PlastiDip on them to protect them from bumps and chipping.

it would probably be smarter to make them bigger and thinner then, but with concrete you need some thickness so they are stronger.

yo dude i see u made this video about 4 months ago but i did something similar to you in terms of making forms and concrete plates, i can give u the full list of the materials I used and mixtures to get 45s 25s 10s and 5s. with mine u each plate ends up being about 2 inchs thick so u can fit more weight on your bar. also wont really cost u much to do it my way. if u interested just reply (note this is not a scam to sell u my shit or w.e. i have no interest on capitalizing on it just looking to help people out but i suck with video editing so thats why i never posted my own video)

Much appreciated. I think I'm going to try my hand at them again. I like the size of the 25s I made. The 50s are bulky. Now that I've made the concrete dumbbell set, I think I've really honed in on the process. I think it would be cool to have 17 3/4 inch diameter 45's. But 2 inches seems like they'd be more likely to crack. Do yours feel sturdy at 2 inches?
