Hey,loved your drone video. I spent my childhood in Coney and I am now 62. I rode the parachute in '64 before it shut down. It was so intense, it jerked off a shoe and I watched it fall to the bottom of the pit. You had my grandparents apartment show up a few times and I began to tear up. They lived on 501 Surf Ave on the fifth floor of the building. I used to walk around by myself and go on rides--eat tons of sweet stuff. Your drone is spot on.Please make more videos--my inner child still remains there. I have not been back to Coney since 1989. Thank you, Seth p.s. I went to Steeplechase many times and also right before it closed down for good. Keep going. If you have anyy more links to videos: sethdarvick@gmail.com
+seth darvick Cool I was raised in Coney Island since I was 2 years old I will be making a Coney Island video very soon. Thanks for the childhood story I love to hear them and have watched many Coney Island old videos. Thanks for watching.
That was Great, I was born and raised in Coney Island, it was the Best. We had the Beach down the block and the Rides down the Boardwalk and All the Girls that came from all over the City to have a Good time it was the 1980's those were the Good Old Days.
I was raised in Coney Island. It has some good history. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
My parents used to tell me stories about this ride, the Parachute Jump, in the 1930's when they were teens. My mother said it looked old back then and definitely not safe, at all. I was at Coney Island in the 1950's I believe I was 8 so it was 1958 and rode the Thunderbolt, Cyclone and Tornado. 2 of the 3 are gone now. Steeplechase was still open in 58, I believe it closed in 1960. But had a chance to go twice before it closed and rode the horses. That too was dangerous, thought I was going to fall of the damn thing as a little kid but loved it. Rode Steeplechase again at Pirates World in Dania FL around 1973 I believe, memory isn't so sharp on the dates but it didn't stay open long. My kids went to Coney too in the 1980's when they were teens, couldn't believe this was the largest amusement park in the world at the time I was growing up. I mean Disney could fit this park in their parking lot
+Robert Reynolds wow that's great. I saw an old video of the parachute jump here on CZcams in action. Thanks for the historic information.
when I was kid and we drove by on the Belt Pkway, 1950's...we would see the shutes opening as they dropped from the top off in the distance from the road and my mom would say "I hated that ride when we were kids but we rode it anyway for the thrills"
Very nice great music great video great work with your drone born and raised in Brooklyn spent many many many years of Coney Island in the 60s and the 70s I'm now living in California but I'll always be a New Yorker thanks for a great shot and good memories and yes I saw a Nathan's and crave Nathan's with some extra mustard.
Coney Island has some great history. I was raised there came to Coney Island in 1974.
Im almost 90 years old, and im going to die soon, very soon.. I wish to be able to climb to the top and just jump off.. Taking in the wind, the beautiful view as I did so many times years ago, when my life was so much more simpler.. I've experienced my own life, and im ready to check out now.
+KingdomHearts 2.0 Good luck and thanks for watching!

GOD BLESS YOU!!
MY FRIEND ❤
On a very clear day, you could see the NYC skyline and Jersey off in the distance, but days like that are few and far between. This must have been done in the dead of winter, as the beach and the pier is pretty empty.
+Andrew Diamond Yes it was winter. Thanks for watching
A true testament to the man who owned it and the once mighty amusement park it belonged to, "George C Tilyou" and his "Steeplechase Park". The tower, in its original design, was created by a military colonel for official training purposes for paratroopers when civilians began asking to try it out for themselves. He eventually developed this more graceful design with more jump perches (chutes) and it mad its way to the world's fair of the 1940's in Flushing Meadows Queens for the world to enjoy. The Tilyou family too saw it there and just had to have it for their famous park in Coney Island, thus striking a deal and made arrangements to acquire it after the fair's closing. It operated successfully for decades at Steeplechase without incident, yes no one ever died or fell. Except for an occasional jamming of the chutes in the guide wires that left people stranded up above here and there. Folks, this tower was the REAL deal! Meaning it was NOT like the type that you now see at Six Flags & etc which use a much slower controlled descent like your average elevator or lift and makeshift parachutes. These were actually REAL large parachutes held into position by guide wires along the perimeter and were the only thing slowing your free fall back to earth once the lifting mechanism gave way at the top. You were slowly lifted up with the chute limp (semi closed) and then once at the top the mechanism released you and POOF, you were free falling for a brief second until the chute finally opened and slowed down your fall. It was VERY intense! Screams were always heard at the top upon release. The tower however was very labor intensive and so to ease the pinch it was sponsored by "LIFESAVERS" candies which had their logo up on top in bright lights for years, candy rings along the sides of the tower, as well as their colors painted on the base. Sadly the Tilyou family became at odds with each other over the years as far as their shares of the family's estate, namely the amusement park and it's holdings, and with the atmosphere at Coney Island becoming more and more dangerous with gang activity terrorizing guests outside of their walls, forcing them to finally close the world's first and famous amusement park for good in 1964. The tower is all that's left of it's grand legacy ....
Thanks for the history

@@eyestoenvy I seen a few of them but the one you sent me was the best thanks.
Would love to see a drone flyover of coney, pointing out the locations of all the old attractions, Steeplechase, Luna Park, dreamland, shoot the chutes location, etc.. maybe a "then and now" for each location?
I finally get to see what I was to Afraid to see back in the 50’s-60’s. Issues with height. I can’t tell you how many pairs of shoes I shined on that boardwalk in the 50’s-60’s then spent the afternoons sand sifting trying to get enough money to go to the Mermaid movie theater (25) cents got ya three movies and 13 cartoons. Thank you for your awesome experience.
The view looks amazing I love it

+KennyLee NYC I have to get a second battery because when the one that I have dies out fun is over. You need like 4 batteries I think. I am going to try to get another one next week
+Living With The Guzman's I have 2 so far. I want to get the Advance version. Now is 799.99, it was 999.99 during Xmas time. Dont bother with P3 4K model, basically is same as our Standard version. Dont get confused with the P3 Pro :) Thats like orange and apple difference.
