    Wow two great light shows natural and man made .That's crazy how many different colors can be used on the tower . I just remember seeing the semi rusted structure with cables hanging and dangling back in the early 80's.

    I was lucky enough to jump the parachute ride twice in 1956 I was 13 years old my cousin and myself want to give it a go we want up one time and then we decided not that scary let's do it again and we did it for the second time I'm glad I had the opportunity to jump walk the famous parachute in Coney Island

    What a great video... This is fantastic footage! This should be part of ANY documentary produced for broadcast television... This is excellent video quality... I just saw a Phantom 3 at Micro Center in Nassau County... Question my friend... Does it take long to really learn and master this drone? How long did it take you?...

      thank you, but it was really to have for my memory, if it changes. as for flying. ive had remote controlled items since i was a child.

    Does anyone know why they didn't restore this Parachute Jump Ride to full functioning?

    • @theredhooker
      @theredhooker  Před 4 lety +1

      I believe either no one would insure it, or insurance was too costly.

    • @eyestoenvy
      @eyestoenvy Před 3 lety +1

      Insurance vs profitability. The ride was subject to wind conditions and labor intensive (back then). And the insurance involved for a free fall ride like would be through the roof, as opposed to the modern (FAKE) parachute rides with controlled descents that you see today at other amusement parks like Six Flags, etc. This thing used REAL parachutes with guide wire tracks along the perimeter, they were the only thing slowing your descent back to earth and subject you to a brief yet frightening freewill sensation up on top as the chute opened.

      @@eyestoenvy Yes, I am sure the insurance would have been out of sight for this. I, like many others who went through parachute jump school at Ft Benning, got to use a very similar tower as part of our training.

    Is that a ride???? Does it work?? Can some one let me know if its there as an antique or of it still works cause I didn't see anyone on it thank you for answering my questions I feel so stupid but I have no clue what it is.

    • @theredhooker
      @theredhooker  Před 5 lety +1

      Crystal Marie Dixon it isnt a ride anymore, its a landmark. Ive heard in the past no one could find or afford the insurance to turn it into a ride again.

      It was built for the 1939 worlds fair, was then moved to it's present spot in 1941, and operated until it was shut down in 1964. It survived planned demolition a couple of times and was finally placed on the national register of historic places in 1980. There are several video clips of the ride in operation during the 40's and 50's on CZcams. Check them out!. Hope this answers your questions.

    • @eyestoenvy
      @eyestoenvy Před 3 lety

      It was a parachute ride, part of the famed (and first) amusement park that once existed at the spot called "Steeplechase Park". it, along with the pier, are all that remain. This parachute ride was the real deal and quite intense as it used REAL parachutes with guide wire tracks along the perimeters and were the only thing slowing your descent back to earth. Very different to the (FAKE) ones you see today at amusements parks like Six Flags that use a controlled descent. You were briefly subjected to a frightening free fall sensation as the lifting mechanism reached the top and POOF, you were let go to fall as the limp chute finally opened and slowed your descent. There's simply nothing like it today.

    That was an awesome video man. Kinda wish u also flew around tho and got the rides and the boardwalk. I always wanted to film coney but i was afraid I'd get in trouble and get my quad confiscated. Almost happened at south beach in staten island. I never really got a chance to take my quad to other boroughs besides mine (staten island) especially now since i broke my cam in a drop :/ but once i fix i deff gotta make a video in bklyn. deff offers much better views than boring si lol but id be too afraid to go very high since its very close to jfk and la guardia. Actually i did bring it to bklyn once but i didnt go up high i just filmed slightly sbove the st for a parade. Check out my youtube if you'd like to see lots of aerials of staten island. And you can see coney from si in some of my vids haha 👍

    I don't know why they don't refurbish the parachute ride and run it again
