    I'm the (nerd) guy who in 1992 or so learned the VAST architecture and programmed so many sounds (over 5000) for the K2x00 series that I started a monthly subscription for them. It's an embarrassing world record. But the K2000 is perhaps the most capable DSP based synthesizer ever made.

    • @wackerburg
      @wackerburg Před rokem +1

      That's very interesting! What about the most recent Waldorf machines, such as the Iridium and Quantum? They seem to have a lot of horsepower.

    • @Manmademadman
      @Manmademadman Před rokem +1

      @@wackerburg It likely has MORE DSP power, but I know of no modern synths that have the capability of freely stacking DSP blocks in a series to make a whole new synthesizer architecture. The Waldorfs are great synths on their own for their own reasons (like putting digital waveforms into various filter topologies)

    • @d.g.f.7056
      @d.g.f.7056 Před rokem +2

      I can definitely second this, I am a fairly new hardware synth nerd guy, like started a year or two ago now, and ended up getting two k2000r synths somehow for fairly cheap considering the more recent prices, like $500 for both them. They are by far the most powerful synths I think I've used probably only matched by my E6400 ultra. The amount of flexibility it gives you is unmatched, and to think that later on with the K2600r they gave you algorithms that had three layers and every preset could have upto 32 layers...you can't match that kinda power and that not even mentioning it's a sampler you really can't go wrong with these machines.

    • @wackerburg
      @wackerburg Před rokem +1

    Three thoughts about this video:
    1. When the first note from "Acoustic piano" hit my ears, all of Rick Wright's piano work on the Division Bell album passed before my psyche.
    2. I think I would speak for everyone if I'd request that you put more footage from your early days.. the snippets in here were amazing to behold.

    New banks of sounds are coming out now for the K2000 by the way. People are pushing the depth and power of VAST way further now than ever before. These new sounds are sublime and seriously amazing. Sounds like a completely new synth. There is something almost spiritual about the K2000. Only very few synths make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and the K2000 is one of them. There is something very special about it. The K2500 also has the magic but the K2600 moved away from the sound a bit. They changed the OS. The K2600 wont load a lot of K2000 patches either. I have compared all three models by the way and the K2000 wins hands down.

    It's such a classic track and the K2 creates that Robert Miles sound perfectly !😀
    It would be a great tribute to him too.

    I absolutely loved playing the K2000S in my university's recording studio when I was studying my music degree in the early 90s. I had a Korg T3EX and the Kurzweil and Korg mixed together was truly magical. The acoustic instrument programs in the Kurzweil left everything for dead at that time such as the piano, EPs, solo trumpet, acoustic and electric guitar programs etc. It was a very deep synth to program and its effects architecture was a bit limiting but Kurzweil improved them in newer generations of their instruments. Keep up the great work and you're a fabulous player with a great personality and charisma!

    Deconstruct it please!!! Robert Miles used a K2000 and two Lexicon LXP-15 für "Children". The acoustic guitar of "Children" comes also from the K2000.
    The K2000 contains also a nice preset called "Perc Organ" for those typical house organ bass lines. It remembers on the M1 organ but with more bass.

    I did the same thing. Bought mine around 1992 and sold it in 2002. Honestly, I wasn't looking for it back but, I saw one for sale in 2014 for $200 and couldn't pass it up. It has the sampler card and max ram in it that mine didn't at the time. The only thing it's missing is the extra roms which if I come across cheap enough, I'll buy. I did put in a new super bright LED screen to replace the old dull LCD. It's still pretty powerful, even by today's standards in certain areas. The polyphony is it's weakest point at 24 note. I can't say I use it a ton but I'm happy to have it back in the arsenal.

    Kurzweil is about SO much more than a box of presets. It's one of the deepest digital synths ever concieved. V.A.S.T is capable of virtually endless sound design possibilities....especially with the sampling option istalled. Basically virtual modular in a box that can do several different kinds of synthesis.

    • @jeffevansmusic
      @jeffevansmusic Před 6 měsíci

      You don't need the sampling option installed at all now. The last OS V3.87 for the K2000 allows you to import wave files now through the SCSI CD ROM drive if its connected. It can read ANY disc now, not just Kurzweil discs. This means you can do a lot of prep before you actually import.

    You zeroed in on the same word I have always applied to this instrument over several decades: USEABLE! Yes! That is why I still treasure my K2000R. I can't begin to describe the number of pieces of commercial work I've done where it was the sole sound source.

    Ahhh, yess! I got a Kurzweil K2661 and a PC3K-8 at my home and I love them both! They're really versatile and able to give you sooo many ideas when playing around with them. I've spent countless hours doing so and I have so much fun each time! So I'm just gonna say it, please do a part 2 and DECONSTRUCT IT!!
