      Thanks for watching in 2024!! 5422, hollow, more big body sound and reactivity. 5622, Centre block, better at high volume, and more like a 335.

    Just got my 5622. Very nice axe. I was totally surprised at how well it plays. It just feels great. Not at all like some other 'budget' guitars in that price range. Perfect neck and setup right out of the box. Nice fret dressing. And it rocks a bit harder than some of the other Gretsches I've had. 5120, 5120Jr etc. They are bit more woody and fatter. This is more of a R-N-R guitar. Recommended!

    I have the 5410T and loaded with some heavy flatwounds also makes an excellent jazzbox with a sense of depth and airy-ness to it while still being really warm. Being able to blend the pickups with the volume controls makes the neck sound fuller with just a touch of bridge. It's been nothing but great for me.

      I recently changed out the bridge in mine. The relatively cheap stock TOM bridge rattled constantly, and let's face it, value priced guitars often need one or another kind of parts upgrade to really shine.

    Great review. They all sound great but back to back I would have to say that I prefer the sound of the rat rod both clean and dirty. The 5622t sounds a bit choked, the 5422t less so, and the Rat Rod the most resonant when all three are compared. Perhaps with more gain, as you've mentioned, the 5622t would win out over the hollowbody guitars due to feedback issues??? But the amount of gain you had dialed in sounded great to my ears which sounded like could have been pushed even further without issue as I didn't hear even a hint of squeal. Nice job!

My brother has one and it destroys my 5420t which sounds muffled compared to it. I also have the 5622t with TV Jones Classic, and maybe I'll sell it. Fantastic review with both playing and "verbal narrative". You covered it all and really showed the characteristics that define each of those 3. I love the blacktop filters with a fuller/smoother mid balance from the neck and hear the difference between the 5410 and 5422. I would guess that might be even more so with 5622 if it had the blacktop filtertrons vs. the broadtrons.

  • @mickeyjohnson1137
    @mickeyjohnson1137 Před 3 lety

    When was this video made? The 5622 is my pick of the litter. The neck pickup seems more suitable for jazz, which is what I prefer. I bought a 6120 when I was 22 yrs. old. I now, at age 68, play a 5120, and I really love the pickups on it. Gretschbuckers. I don't really understand Gretsch player's hatred of the Gretschbuckers. Maybe my ears don't work right, but I love the sound of them. I owned a Gibson Super 400 CES during my 40's, and I am just as happy with my Gretsch 5120 now. Maybe my ears aren't as good now at my age. At any rate, your video helped me to decide to get the 5622. I had been on the fence about it. Thanks for the demo and helping me make up my mind. One more thing, the sound of the rat rod and the 5422 comes from ceramic pickups, right? The 5622 sounds more like an alnico, does it not? Do you know what magnet type it is? I find mixed info elsewhere.

    With Grestch electromatic its hard to get any specs on things like the pickups. Broadtron's and block top filtertrons whats the difference? What magnets do they have etc..I bought a electromatic double jet store exclusive with gold Paton number filtertrons and I was trying to find out if they were the same as the filtertrons in the pro version (aka Japanese version.) I called the store no info I called Grestch
    Again no info. Infact the guy that anserd the phone at Grestch said " I don't know but I doubt it." I asked if there was a way to look it up he said no. So it would be nice if there was some pickup specs available to us loyal Grestch customers.

    • @damonthegnomeoftonechivers
      @damonthegnomeoftonechivers  Před 3 lety

      Hi there. The pickups on the Electromatic series guitars are different fromthe pro series. They are built specifically for those guitars. So on a 5230T , they are far eastern versions of the blacktop fillrtertrons you would find on a Tennessee rose . Ditto the broadtrons on The 5220 are far eastern versions you will find on the Pro Bt jets. They have the same tonal characteristics as the pro versions, but not quite as 'toneful' as their Pro counterparts.,

    • @jeremybaker195
      @jeremybaker195 Před 3 lety

      @@damonthegnomeoftonechivers so if I check the specks of the pro version I could assume that the specks would be the same only made in China or Korea rather than Japan? My curiosity is about the magnets. Ceramic or AlNiCo and if they are AlNiCo are they II ,III, V. I really like Grestch and would like to get the most out of the Grestchs I own. I own 3 electromatic jets, a Grestchbucker hollow body, a electromatic Bo Diddly, a steal resonator, a 12 string rancher White Falcon, a 12 string electromatic double cut hollow body, the Rancher with the bigsby and filtertron, a jim dandy, and have a Fairlane blue hollow body on layaway. So ya I really like Grestch and want to know as much as possible about them. Thank you for responding. I am considering putting Hi/Lo trons in the neck of one of my jets so its hard to know when buying online if its a pro version or a electromatic version and if there's any difference.
