1955 Conn 10B Trumpet

- With a large, 5.2" bell of spun copper, this trumpet puts out a lovely, mellow tone. The copper will also hold the tone together even with great volume, so it's a great feature. In surprisingly good condition (the copper bells are soft and usually show many dents and dings), this horn also showcases a beautiful nickel-silver and brass trim. Using Conn's .433" bore, the big bell still enables a big, hearty sound. Enjoy! :)
I got one of these! Absolutely fantastic trumpet. Mine was built in 1957, and looks exactly like that. I projects like no other. Warm or almost evil, it will give you what you demand. One of the best!

A jingle from the '70's? "Wouldn't you rather have a Buick? A Buick?" At least this is the melody as I remember it. :) Funny, but I did a vid 18 months ago or so and played a song and challenged all to be the first to identify it. It was the theme from Mannix, a show from the '70's (am I in a time warp, maybe?). Can you believe a guy from the U.K. got it first? They were doing Mannix on demand over there at the time. :) The horn is very, very pretty. I really didn't want to buy it, but a guy messaged me here at CZcams, was a bit hard up for money and needed to sell it. I scraped up some money, and the trumpet turned out to be as pretty as any vintage horn I've had, I think. Nice player, too. :)
Love your reviews of the horns. Thanks to your reviews, I have been able to find quality instruments for my students. (middle school band director)
Your honesty and demonstration of what the horns can do is so very helpful. Before COVID, I would have a "petting zoo" for my students to try different horns from the school and my personal collection. It is always a joy when the student finds one that just sings for them.
I have also added a number of vintage horns to my collection thanks to your recommendations.
I think a date with a 10b might be in my future.

Aw, TL, very kind of you to comment. I started with French Horn in Middle School, and moved to trumpet just after High School, so school players hold a fond spot in my heart. So glad my reviews have been some help. I just recently picked up an Ambassador trumpet and haven't totally figured it out yet. It's from '52 and still very playable, so like many have said, they seem to be quite solid. Tank-like is the way some people describe them. It's certainly comparable in tone to an Olds Super and Olds Mendez I have (much more expensive horns). Can't say how they all play, as this is my first, but I am impressed. Bes wishes with school, and if you ever have any special needs, pass the word along and maybe we can see something positive come about. I've seen schools that had fires or floods put out requests at TrumpetHerald.com, or even mouthpiece requests for poor(er) students. We all feel better when we respond, so do keep me in mind. Bell actually isn't spun... It's electroformed right on the the mandrel. No seams at all!
I just bought a 1965 6B and I'm totally in love with that little horn. Did you ever play one of these?

Joe, greetings and thanks for commenting. I think I've had a 6B, but I don't have a video up of one, so it must have been several years ago. I definitely had a 6A. They're similar. Conn was making some tremendous models back then. I'm gravitated to Olds horns, but I still pick up a good Conn when I can find them. :) Here's where I get a lot of my info on Conn horns; it's a superb site.
