I loved Space: 1999 as a kid! This was so well done! I especially loved seeing the Eagle's landing pads retract and extend. That was cool, and something I don't remember ever seeing in the series.
If it were remade today, I’m sure a collection of tourists would certainly be among the residents of Alpha blasted out of earth orbit. The movie star, the billionaire and their spouse, etc…
Wonder if some tourists ask, 'Say... can we see the old SHADO base?'
'Uh... there's no SHADO base...'
"But we flew over it...'
'THERE'S NO SHADO BASE!'
Good work. Enjoyed this. The detail of retracting the landing pads was excellent. The limitations of the original series didn't allow them to show that, but looking more closely at the Eagle models (I had one) it's clear that it was part of the design. It was an ambitious TV show, with many hardware details that couldn't be fully realized in the original series.
This was great! This is what the internet was made for! I even recognize the three astronauts as Bergman, Koenig, and Helena on the Moon's surface. I also liked the new view of the Moon speeding away from Earth after the explosion and the surface glowing orange. My only nit-picking comment is that the Moon's surface should have had more craters on it. But the Eagles and Alpha were perfection!

Fabulous!! Was one of my faves back in the 70s when I was but a young-un. Only thing I would say is, you got the red and green nav lights the wrong way round. Port (left) is red and Starboard (right) is green.

When this show first aired, I was 12. It was my favourite show on TV at the time. A good friend and I used to have a few models, and tried making home movies... that would have been on 8mm film, long before CGI software. Thankfully, the explosion on the moon pushed it away from earth, rather than towards it 😁
no moon means no more tide, no moon light, all that dust probably hampers stargazing and asteroid detection.
initial blast may have created enormous tidal wave ...

Including the Moon Bus from _'2001: A Space Odyssey'_ was a nice touch.
I had asked for a model kit of the Moon Bus for Christmas as a child and my parents not realizing the difference gave me an Eagle model kit.
Fortunately, all these decades later, the Moon Bus kit was produced again. So I now have one in my collection.

But the feet never retracted in the series...
I've notice that quite a few of the fan films of the Eagle have incorporated the retracting landing gear that was *originally* supposed to be used on the TV show models but the budget didn't allow it, apparently. It's amazing that so many quality 'fan' productions are turning out such a high level of professionalism - and this is right up there.
My only suggestions: the stock Apple SFX don't really do this justice, but hey - one uses what one has, right? And perhaps, just a tad more ease-in, ease-out when the ship changes maneuvers. The changes are a bit abrupt; not a real issue but it's just enough to notice. And something this good shouldn't let anyone notice anything a bit off. Great work; please keep 'em coming!
An incredible amount of hard work went into this. That said, I will always prefer models and claymation over CGI.
Beautiful work, excellent CGI!! I grew up on this amazing TV series....After learning more about the Moon, post 1969, however- I think the Eagle space craft would need to add protective 'socks' on the hydraulic leg mechanisms. Moon dust is very abrasive over continued exposure. Like Off road vehicles, ex: Jeeps use dust covers for shock absorbers. I also think the Eagles would coast a lot of the time. No air resistance, Engines off, except occasional sleight boosts to keep altitude from the low moon gravity.
Well done. I love the addition of navigation lights to the Eagles and the remnants of the Apollo moon landings as a tourist attraction 🙂

I loved this. The end was so stupid crazy. I won't share the ending. I want others to be as pleasantly and amusingly shocked as I was. All I can say is GREAT VIDEO vacation travel video. I'd be proud to share these vacation movies with my friends if I experienced this. Loved it! LOL! Thank you for the fan art it was on point and well done!

A wonderful work! But I am not sure if eagles have retractable landing gears. Since moon has no atmosphere, landing gears cannot create drag.
Pretty awesome video! Love all things Space: 1999. I've got to ask though... Why did you have the hatch open that particular way on the passenger pod when the astronauts disembark? The hatch typically slides open horizontally and the stairs to leave the pod are located in a fixture below the hatch. The hand rails are in recessed panels on opposite sides of the hatch. Just curious is all, as I have seen some of the original design artwork by Brian Johnson and Martin Bower which shows this.

Beautiful really gives us an idea of scale Eagle is actually quite large and it would have been nice for the original series to give us a shot of the landing area just a distant shot where it works roped off it would have been cool

I also noticed the changes you made that's actually a better idea. On my channel I show custom space 1999 mattel and dinky upgrades and I've seen where there could have been improvement.
I wonder whether the eagle design could ever be made into a proper spacecraft, ie the technology needed , materials and fuel type .

You can actually make a real eagle spacecraft. But the major problem with it is the artificial gravity that is used in the series. NASA did a lot of research on something called NERVA Engines. Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application. Although not strong enough for use on the surface of the Earth, everything else is possible. At least that's what I have heard.
So check it out with the NERVA and see. And now NASA is supposedly starting more research on nuclear rocket engines for a better engine for Earth to the Moon transit. And they are also looking into a different form of engine for Earth to Mars transit. With a really good engine for Mars transit you could possibly reduce the amount of time required, considerably. It might be possible to include Both types of engines, Nuclear and ION.

Yes artificial gravity, that could be a sticking point , and there have been many theories on that too , plus if there where a Moonbase Alpha gravity control would have to be there as well .
Those three problems alone would take a few years to sort out and some of the best minds to problem solve .
But at least I know that an eagle in theory could be possible, now that would be a wonderful thing to see in the sky …….

Great ! love navigation beacons. Only nit pic is the rear thrusters - the thrust would not converge into spikes since there's no atmosphere - The lifting thrusters looked more accurate. Great job!

Great animation but wondering why you have the landing legs retract? Never shown on the show as far as I can remember. It's not like there's air resistance or drag on the moon.
You’re right, but I just thought it was cool to animate this landing gears, my videos give me the opportunity to learn and test some technics.
Yes, atmospheric drag would be an insignificant problem on the moon.
But the landing gears could be retracted to shield them from collisions with dust and large particles. They're probably robust parts - but they're also critical parts, and they're also moving parts so they are "prone" to failure.
Retracting them also concentrates the mass of the vessel along a centerline, maybe better thrust-efficiency for maneuvering, especially over long flights.
@@pwnmeisterage and the feet would have to retract when entering a planet’s atmosphere. They just lacked the animatronics to do it in camera on the show.
I think you have the RED and GREEN lights backwards. Red should be on the Port side not Starboard.

Because you can not use the main engines for landing.
Try picturing the Eagle coming in to land. This type of spacecraft has a Vertical Take off and Landing because it has no wings, no atmosphere on the Moon. No wings or no atmosphere you need vertical take off and landing. This type of spacecraft was supposedly going to spend all most all of its time in the hard vacuum of space. So that is the reason for the design that they came up with.

I don't understand something why can't NASA make these spaceships these Eagles imagine having an eagle made like a rocket and launching it like a rocket ship straight up and then detach the panels and you have the eagle flying in outer space
There are a few reasons why. (1) The Eagles have anti-gravity thrusters and artificial gravity on board. We have neither of those technologies. (2) The Eagles are powered by compact nuclear fusion engines. We don’t have those either. (3) The Eagles have shields to keep the passengers safe from space junk and radiation. We don’t have those shields.

An explosion powerful enough to send the moon of a solar escape velocity and get the moon into another system, would blow the moon to bits.
Yeah, probably….. but it’s not like the rest of the stories were a model of scientific integrity….. lol. It was a great TV show with great sets and effects.

The sets, ships and the moon's surface were excellent, the story lines bloody awful, it could of been so much better, the same goes for Battlestar Galactica...story and most of the actors were a joke.
