    Band reunion show. This song, The Monkey Time, features The Original Spontanes with lead singer James Bates (Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame). Additional vocalists included Ron Ownbey, Monk Ghantt, Marti Wetzell Sell & Mike Black. Monk Ghantt was also inducted into the CBMA Hall of Fame in November 2014.
    Band members for this song included: Barry McCoig, bass; Bruce Flynn, drums; Ernie Hawkins & Randy Whitesides, keyboards; Jim Monroe & Doug Burns, trumpets; Tyrone Jefferson, trombone; John Alexander, alto sax; Eddie Blair, tenor sax & Ed Crotts, baritone sax.
    Five former bands that were widely popular in the Southeast U.S. during the 1960s and '70s participated in this memorable show. Performing bands included The Original Spontanes, The Counts, Image, The Fabulous Flares and Gaston. A number of the reunion musicians had not performed together in over 40 years.

    ran across this, looked at them, then read some comments, yeah, i'll give it a shot, wow glad i did, whole bunch of folks sounding mighty good, and glad i stopped by. on my play list now.

      Thanks for the comment, Will. Just wish we would stop losing folks from the show; 10 band members are now deceased since this reunion event.

      reply surprised me thanks. old as dirt here and still loving this kind of music, grew up in the 45s era and have some of mom's old 78s left too. so hate to hear of the group's losses. this group popped when i was playing some Swingin' Medallions stuff, so glad i found this group. i grew up near the Va./Carolina line, ha. good luck to you. @@BlueRidgeEd

      Thanks, bro. Wish we had not lost so many of our bandmates since this reunion gig occurred (4 of those in the thumbnail are now deceased).

    Not Smokey...it was written by Curtis Mayfield and recorded by Major Lance, Chicago R&B artists.
    BTW, Atlanta's current mayor, a former judge, is Major Lance's daughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms---an accomplished family.

      Smokey and The Miracles actually did a cover of this in 1963 on their Mickey's Monkey album.

      I was one of several groups that warmed the crowd up before the lead Acts. I was only 16 and back stage with Major Lance and for a 16 year old kid I was blown away when I saw him shooting up. I must say he put on a hell of a show! This is not Gray Tyndall but her father Brent Tyndall
