Symphony Interruptus

- Cellphones are the natural enemy of a symphony orchestra, especially at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins Colorado. The disruptive potential of even a single cellphone is quite real, and the concert-hall is full of them.
No telling what might happen if a bunch of rogue cellphones infiltrated a concert and they all got together with a plan…
Join us as conductor Wes Kenney attempts to tame them with Jim David's composition of iCanon, leading to Symphony Interruptus.
Special thanks to the films production team:
Brandon Schrichten, Andrew Trigg, Kyle Abbott, Matt Faye, Sean Bell, and Matt Rickman. - Zábava
The guy at 2:33 reading the program like "What the hell am I listening to? Have a seriously paid money for this? I thought this was gonna be Tchaikovsky..."!
HAHAHA, that's exactly it!!!
Lmao
A recording of this should be played prior to every concert, while people are being seated, so that they remember to shut their phones off.
Or just invest in an EMP device.
+0hn0haha An EMP would be illegal because of the destruction caused. But a jammer would work well.

joke /jōk/
noun
1.
a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline.
"she was in a mood to tell jokes"
synonyms: funny story, jest, witticism, quip;
verb
1.
make jokes; talk humorously or flippantly.
"she could laugh and joke with her colleagues"
synonyms: tell jokes, crack jokes.
But on a serious note; yeah, you are right! Jammer is good. EMP could get you sued.
+0hn0haha Just have to make sure that 911 can get through some how... Would not be a good idea to block that.
EMP then :/
Farraday cage should be more than enough.
What about coughs, candy wrappers, noisy fabrics / handbags, humming the tune, clapping between movements, etc.? Should have worked those in this great composition :)
This seems more to me like the farewell/funeral soundtrack for Nokia :'(
Nokia's like the best phone😢
nokia is a dead product lol
theres a iphone ringtone though
YAY!!!!!! ORCHESTRA WINS! ORCHESTRA WINS!!! Very nicely done!
Just love when something is done a little differently. Makes the whole experience more entertaining, more fun.
Winsome arrangement, and all I can think of is the TRex in Jurassic Park with that stupid ringing phone in its stomach. There is a place in villainy for people who don't mute their cell phones before a performance, or look at them with the bright screen disturbing everyone in the rows up behind them - while they think they're covering the screen... :-D
Yeah it's also really annoying when cellphones go off during slipknot concerts
2019 here. I just want to say that even though Nokia is not a first choice for now generation, but the ringtone still lives on. Even till now I still love Nokia's ringtone~
It's sad, but we live in an era now where someone needs to walk on stage and take two minutes to announce loudly to "Please mute, or turn off all your cell phones now for the performance."
But this works too. That's actually kind of beautiful.
I dont care how old a video is, it never ceases to amaze me that this can exist, it gives me chills and a smile.
Funny, and probably one of the most innovative pieces of 21st century classical music heard in ages. Composed by Jim David and Charlie Hatchette.
Hardly innovative, but certainly a not-so-subtle way to tell people to turn their damn phones off during performances.
OzzieBloke
not innovative? in that case name ONE other piece of music like it. Just one, shouldn't be too hard IF such a piece of music exists.
I thought it was very good. In many ways a celebration of modern life - not merely a reminder to shut the phones off. I find the two main themes and their interplay interesting - one an iPhone ring, the other Nokia - symbolizing perhaps a budding romance at the beginning that progresses to a life together. Sometimes our protagonists are alone, sometimes in groups - but in the end - as in death - we are alone to contemplate our slow deaths. OK, maybe I'm overthinking this piece a bit - but I can't but think the composer(s) put more thought into than a simple melodic exercise.
As far as other contemporary classical pieces that are innovative - check out the work of Christopher Tin (for pieces most people will like) and Pascal Dusapin (for pieces that only hardcore symphony people will likely like).
Not sure which came first, but look up "windows symphony" waltz here on CZcams - similar sort of concept, though not as well composed as this one.
@@bolanddewsnap5698 Do Hanz Zimmer counts?
If this was a legit ringtone, I would never answer my phone and just let it play.
Can I have this as my ringtone?
Yes, just download
Nel
Same, I want that ringtone lol
3:53 Triangle Solo! Make it sing bitches!
Beautiful composition, well done! Never think these tunes could be so amazing.
This was just the most fun to be there in person! Charlie...you are a marvel! We love and appreciate your talent and whimsy.
Thanks for this!
Lindsay and Fred Morgan
Charlie was the best! I miss Him.
So beautiful. This gave me chills :)
When the alarm goes up while a good dream
This ring-tone has been derived out of "Gran Vals" by Francisco Tárrega
So creative - love it ! 😍
One of the best mashup performances :D
First time to hear the incredible play, and made almost cry and touch that the art (the music) can embrace the technology and merged into one.
This is... so beautiful! :D
this is how i feel when my alarm rings on morning
0:41 It kind of sounds like the sound when you start up a PS3
That's because the sound of the PS3 intro is an orchestra tuning their instrument
OMG... This is Awesome...
Thank you, Charlie! Very clever concept.
Its beautiful and amazing
This is creativity at its pike
Talented people with a good snnse of humor!
This sounds like the perfect ringtone..
This sounds like it would fit nicely with the simcity 4 soundtrack
I thought it sounded like a sims or simcity soundtrack
This was obviously a part of the performance. People stopped going to orchestras because they were too boring and bland. Today's orchestra's are getting wiser and adding more entertainment to keep their customers coming to see them.
At least one person gets it right ...
Gotta love culture that dares to evolves.
Boring? Bland? Yeet, how dare ye?
Boring? Bland? how dare ye?
*NOW THIS IS WHAT A CALL CLASSICAL MUSIC*
Great example of when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Epic!
This is genius!!
Best Apple ad ever
Im getting this as my ringtone hahahaha 😁😁😁☺️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Job well done sirs
Nice!
...Powerful just Powerful...
good for film making!
they planned the phone before
Steve is proud
I interrupted the symphony by pausing the video
Can someone tell me why the string tune with vibrato? I've been working in many orchestras for quite a few years, but this is just wrong to me. Is there any reason to do that?
They don't, probably unsynchronized footage.
I think they tuned much earlier. The tuning seen here is just part of the composition and the "show". Never ever somebody will tune with vibrato :-D
Aiwendil strings tune on open strings, which is impossible to use vibrato with. What you saw was most likely either footage from a different point in time over the tuning audio, or someone who was done tuning and just noodled around a bit before everyone finished.
Jocelyn Taylor as a violinist this is proooobably the case. Lol there's always that one passage you have to fumble
Aiwendil I have found this same question.
Reminds me of the Karl Jenkins and Mike Oldfield Co-lab on Music of The Spheres.
brilliantly clever
and what a great sound they make
If this performance was improv,
It would have even more epic.
Tactically presentation.
Someone had their phone on for the entire performance! How rude lol
you can tell its not gonna be serious when the strings are doing vibrato while tuning
Such a fun and beautifully composed piece. Is there a way to get it?
THIS ONE!
The actual music sounds like the playstation3 start up sound
Funking Genius
2:10 a wild sea of ringtones!
iPhone marimba and Nokia tune together. nice!
Marimba: I just played the iPhone ringtone for 5 minutes.
Merci à Louis-Guy...
Does anyone know where I can find more of this composer's music?
nice
00:39 PS3 Startup Sound
i think its planned but its still amazing
thank God for cell phones
all hail, the king of ringtones, the nokia
2:19 "DROID!"
Fell in love with 1st flute. 😍 Or its a boy?
Another Idea: Get their phone numbers before. Then before the concert starts call every number and totally prank em bro
I can sleep well now.
PlayStation 3 Startup sound 0:42
can i have this for my wake up alarm lol
0:50 ps3 start up
A beautiful middle finger...lol

2:50 is the best
1:43 is what we’re all looking for
1:43 How many times do I have to tell you to turn off the cell phone? Too much cell phones out here.
WORD. RESPECT. YES. YES YES. LIDIA ROCHA KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Beautifully Executed (y)
PS3 Startup Sound :D
Don't like how it was filmed, image and sound don't fit several times
It's common for recording companies to record video during a rehearsal to get cinematic shots and edit them in with the audio.
Talking out your ass.
scherzo pastiche
2:52 lol
2:52!~~
Are moblie phones so important that they have interrupt a concert? Think on!
Every time. Mobiles have no place in concert halls.
reason why most audiophiles even have a dedicated room in house is this kind a dsturbance
Sinfonia interrupta was a more correct title. The male adjective hurts like an interrupting ringtone.
What I don't understand is that you paid to hear music yet your phone is equally important?
3:43 what instrument
Sounds like french horn or trombone. I dont have any score, i am not really sure.
Thats a trombone, its obvious on the grr sound it does when prolonging a note
ههههههه اعجبني تمنيت ان اوقف معك
What Respecte ? Is they end... LIDIA ROCHA
i never thought id enjoy classical music, but this is an exception
