I think what we need to add balance is that defensive shield, someone who'll patrol horizontally across the pitch, win the ball and recycle it. They probably need to be more on the safe side than the expensive side with their passing. Great reader of the game, press resistant and very good mobility.
Things like creative passing, good in the air, physically imposing are all bonus things that are great to have, but not at the expense of any of the core skills.

Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad ticks a lot of these boxes. Not really a true 6 though definitely an 8 who can occasionally play as a 6 but he's fits this profile quite well.

Agreed. Everyone seems to want another big, destroying midfielder, but we already have that in Casemiro. Look how that’s going. We also have Mctominay, who plays a similar style, and I think Mainoo is more of a ball winner than people give him credit for. We need someone intelligent to just sit deep and dictate tempo. I really think people are missing the target on what we should be looking for. None of the top teams in the world have a destroying 6 like that. They all have their own version of a Carrick/Rodri/Busquets type.
It’s also interesting that Bruno is arguably the main culprit for giving the ball away unnecessarily for us, but when he plays for Portugal, he keeps the ball nicely, often getting above 85% pass accuracy. I’ve always thought that that’d be impossible for such a creative player like him, but maybe this proves that it’s down to instruction rather than the player himself.
except quality deep lying playmakers don't grow on trees. they enable greatness in the teams they play for but they don't exist in bunches. just look at the successful teams in the euros now: germany has kroos playing the role, spain has rodri, switzerland is deploying xhaka there. then look at the teams struggling: england's rice is really not a tempo controller, netherlands has been up and down because de jong didn't make the team because of injury.
the other part of the euro comparison is the balance mentioned by aj requires a water carrier. germany has andrich, spain has fabian ruiz and netherlands basically have two of them in reijnders and schouten, as does france with kante and rabiot. i don't think mainoo nor bruno can be that, to shuttle between the 6 and 10 space to help out in both attack and defense. so i think the balance will still be off simply because mainoo and bruno will make for too lightweight a midfield, whoever else you throw into the mix, both as it pertains to stature and space eating in transition defense.
@@oscarjenkins7505 i agree but i think for completely honest they need defensive skills just because we dont have other midfielder like Roy Keane or Scholes, but yes ability on the ball should be main priority, but i dont think there is a lot number 6 like that, especially on the market.
the main reason Bruno doing that is because we struggling, if we winning that naturally will decreasing.
Bruno loves to treat the ball like a hot potato, we’ll never be possession based with him in there.

Absolutely agree with you. I think its going to be incredibly hard to fine a player that ticks all those boxes. But pliz do a video on some options that may be out there. I always thougbt with martinez, kobi, in that area we need an aerial monster to deal with deal with teams that are going to try and bypass our press with long balls.
The best profiles are Onana and Ederson based on. I’d also say Joao Neves as he is deceptively strong in the air despite his shorter frame. Saying that there’s generally no smoke without fire and I think the Ugarte move will happen, therefore ruling out the other options

I think it’s impossible to find a player who fit that criteria in both Oop and in possession, but we can sign 2 midfielders, one excels more in possession and other more in oop.
I think signing 2 midfielders is a necessity anyway tbh
Having said that, I do think there are a couple of players out there that tick *nearly* all of these boxes

Joao Neves fits that profile perfectly. Locatelli is another one, but he hasn’t been on the top of his game for at least a couple years. If we can manage to get him back to top form, this could be a cheap option with world class potential. Amrabat is a third option as well. He has everything you could need in terms of profile, but there are questions about his quality. Andrich could even be another, but I don’t know much about him. He seems solid defensively, and he’ll be great in possession, as he’s played for Leverkusen this season, and I’m sure he wouldn’t be too expensive either.
Pretty good options tbh. There are no problems finding the right players, but we need at least two DMs. Idk why we’d ever consider players like Ugarte and Onana when players like these are available. Those two don’t fit what we are looking for at all imo, let alone the fact that they are just not good enough tbh. I think height and ball winning is far less important than everyone is making is out to be, when intelligence and dictating tempo is really what we need.

I feel like we can find players like Ugarte who fill most of the criteria, except for heading. I think we could sign Ugarte and then have a back up who we bring on if the other team plans to exploit our lack of height
Kobbie is tall. He can train his positioning & heading. CR7 did it. He can do it too. And he has to improve on his passing range if he is to control the midfield
i think Ugarte is that player...plus with lots of room to improve he is going to be a beast for us

Bruno's Goal Threat has significantly gone down. That's an issue needa addressing.
He is not the best creative midfielder in the League, there are players who create better than him. However, he is a volume passer into the final third and penalty box. He puts in tons of crosses and need someone who can convert them.
hate to be the guy but I think we should stick with MM. he’s adored by managers, he’s wanted. He’s got SOMETHING managers want. Think we should trust this signing for another season before we drop him to a depth rotation

Just imagine if we had got Rice a couple years ago rather than overpaying for an aging Casemiro.
We probably would have made him a flop that nobody wants to buy by now. No need to imagine
Also, Rice isn't the perfect partner for Mainoo because he is more an 8 than a 6 and we have to get the right blend with Bruno taken into accoubt aswell. We need a defensive player who is press resistant and has the passing ability to beat a press.

I think recovery speed is also very important.
My concern with Casemiro is we need atleast 2 players in all midfield positions. Bruno and Mount can do a job at the CAM, Ugate and Casemro needs to share the burden, Mainoo also needs a partner. Still injuries will ravage us. We need more high quality academy players in the bench. We will really struugle to get top 4 if injuries again hit us. Selling Mctominy is a better option and offers good money considering his age. Erikson will be sold.We need a CB and seems to be sorted and we will get a Forward. but we cant possibly compete for the EPL or Champions league with this squad.

@@AJAnalysis He is so good! It's almost like swearing in church, but he might be an upgrade on Martinez, at least in the long term. If we could get him it would be huge. But like you said, he's almost too good that it doesn't really make sense for us to get him now. Maybe if we get Lucumi instead, Bologna would want to sell Calafiori. And Lucumi would be a great backup for both LCB and RCB. Plus I think he can also play LB in a pinch. I think getting him makes a lot more sense. But Calafiori makes me salivate a lot more...

Everyone seems to be judging Ugarte based on his stats and playing style for PSG… forgetting that when Casemiro came to Utd, no one knew how good he was going forward, and in 1 season, he scored more goals than in his entire RM career.

Wouldn’t say kobbie is a progressive passer, I’m yet to see that part of him game and his passes are pretty basic though he’s young and will definitely improve he averages only 3 progressive passes per game. Very good carrier but poor in the progressive passes aspect for me I’d like to sign a proper cdm who is also so a progressive passer.
He's shown some vision here and there, definitely has the ability, just a case of filling out his game. He's already so complete it's mind-boggling.

what happens when mainoo or bruno get injured or have a bad run of games. we also need good bench options. we cant just rely on the same 3 midfielders to play 60 games. people keep talking about oh we need to find the missing piece but we need 5-6 pieces. or what happens if casemiro stayed and amrabat was signed permanently would we even buy a midfielder. we cant be playing a lone 6 again. bruno is more of a forward than a midfielder, i would happily drop 1 of the wingers to have more balance, i would rather 3 players behind him or a back 3 in a 4312 or a 3412

I know he was injured the entire season but has everyone forgotten we signed a midfielder for 55m last season? Ten Hag didn't buy Mount to sit on the bench.
He offers press resistance, mobility, energy and pressing. I'm pretty sure Ten Hag specifically bought him to lead the press out of possession.
Truth is, Bruno is the square peg of that midfield. He doesn't offer much as an 8 besides his passing, he's too loose in possession and, while he runs his ass off, he leaves gaping holes in midfield. So you have to play him further up the pitch, but then you lose an outlet for progression.
United need to move away from relying on talismanic players like him. Chance creation needs to be systematic, not individualistic.

United very rarely played with Pogba and McFred on at the same time. It was usually McFred or Pogba + Matic

In possession the only boxes he doesn't tick are creativity and shooting (which are unnecessary for a dm anyway) and progressive passing. Oop he ticks very box except aerial duels
